    Sacia Kachi1,*, Fatima-zohra Bensouici1, Nawel Ferroudj1, Saadoun Boudebous2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.15, No.2, pp. 89-105, 2019, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2019.00263

Abstract The objective of the present study is to analyze the laminar mixed convection in a square cavity with moving cooled vertical sidewalls. A constant flux heat source with relative length l is placed in the center of the lower wall while all the other horizontal sides of the cavity are considered adiabatic. The numerical method is based on a finite difference technique where the spatial partial derivatives appearing in the governing equations are discretized using a high order scheme, and time advance is dealt with by a fourth order Runge Kutta method. The Richardson number (Ri), More >

    Toufik Benmalek1, Ferhat Souidi1, Mourad Moderres2,*, Bilal Yassad1, Said Abboudi3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.15, No.2, pp. 107-123, 2019, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2019.04496

Abstract This study aims to analyze mixed convection in a square cavity with two moving vertical walls by finite volume method. The cavity filled with Non-Newtonian fluid of Bingham model is heated from below and cooled by the other walls. This study has been conducted for certain parameters of Reynolds number (Re=1-100), Richardson number (Ri=1-20), Prandtl number (Pr=1-500), and Bingham number has been studied from 0 to 10. The results indicate that the increase in yield stress drops the heat transfer and the flow become flatter, while increasing Reynolds number augments it. The convective transport is More >

    Cherfi Ryad1,*, Sadaoui Djamel1, Sahi Adel1, Mouloud Smail1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.15, No.2, pp. 153-169, 2019, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2019.04294

Abstract The present work relates to a numerical investigation of double diffusive mixed convection around a horizontal annulus with a finned inner cylinder. The solutal and thermal buoyancy forces are sustained by maintaining the inner and outer cylinders at uniform temperatures and concentrations. Buoyancy effects are also considered, with the Boussinesq approximation. The forced convection effect is induced by the outer cylinder rotating with an angular velocity (ω) in an anti-clockwise direction. The studies are made for various combinations of dimensionless numbers; buoyancy ratio number (N), Lewis number (Le), Richardson number (Ri) and Grashof number (Gr). More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-8, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.30

Abstract The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection heat transfer in a non-Newtonian Powell-Erying fluid flow due to an exponentially shrinking porous sheet is investigated. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered. After use of the suitable transformations, the governing equations become non-similar ODEs. Numerical computations of resulting equations are obtained by very efficient shooting method for several values of involved parameters. The results exhibit that dual non-similar solutions can be found only when some amount of fluid mass is sucked from the flow field through the porous sheet. Many important results on the effect of external magnetic More >

    M.D. Shamshuddina,*, A.J. Chamkhab,c, Thirupathi Thummad, M.C. Rajue

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-15, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.15

Abstract In the current paper, a finite element computational solution is conducted for MHD double diffusive flow characterizing dissipative micropolar mixed convective heat and mass transfer adjacent to a vertical porous plate embedded in a saturated porous medium. The micropolar fluid is also chemically reacting, both Soret and Dufour effects and also heat absorption included. The governing partial differential equations for momentum, heat, angular momentum and species conservation are transformed into dimensionless form under the assumption of low Reynolds number with appropriate dimensionless quantities. The emerging boundary value problem is then solved numerically with an efficient… More >

EFFECTS OF VARIABLE FLUID PROPERTIES ON A DOUBLE DIFFUSIVE MIXED CONVECTION VISCOUS FLUID OVER A SEMI INFINITE VERTICAL SURFACE IN A SPARSELY PACKED MEDIUM

    R. Suresh Babu1,2, B. Rushi Kumar1,*, P.A. Dinesh2

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-9, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.3

Abstract This problem deals with the effects of double diffusive, mixed convective flow of an incompressible viscous fluid through a vertical heated plate embedded in a non-Darcy porous medium under the influence of variable fluid properties numerically. The governing equations are modeled for the double diffusive boundary layer flow to understand the behaviour of velocity, temperature and concentration for variable fluid properties namely permeability, porosity, thermal conductivity and solutal diffusivity of the physical modal. Using a suitable similarity transformation, the highly nonlinear coupled PDE's are reduced into a set of coupled ordinary differential equations. By applying More >

HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER ANALYSIS ON MHD MIXED CONVECTION FLOW OF RADIATIVE CHEMICALLY HEAT GENERATING FLUID WITH VISCOUS DISSIPATION AND THERMO-DIFFUSION EFFECT

    Sanjib Senguptaa,*, Amrit Karmakarb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.11, pp. 1-13, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.11.30

Abstract In this paper an analysis on heat and mass transfer is made to study magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convective flow of an incompressible viscous fluid flowing past an inclined plate. A magnetic field of uniform strength is applied to the plate to influence the flow. Due to weak voltage differences caused by the very low polarization charges, the influence of electric field is considered to be neglected. Again large temperature gradient ensures cross diffusion effect like thermo-diffusion (Soret) in the field. The governed set of non-linear partial differential equations is solved by developing a multi-parameter asymptotic… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.11, pp. 1-10, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.11.11

Abstract A numerical study has been performed to investigate mixed convection flow in a vented square cavity with circular cooling obstacle. The governing equations such as two dimensional Navier-Stokes, continuity, and energy balance equations have been solved using a finite volume discretization method with SIMPLE algorithm. The effect of the Richardson number, outlet port location and volume fraction of nanoparticles were studied. The outlet port is varied from top to bottom in order to find the maximum heat transfer rate. The results indicated that by increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles and reducing Richardson number, the More >

    D. R. V. S. R. K. Sastry

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.11, pp. 1-7, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.11.3

Abstract The present paper investigates the combined effects of melting phenomenon and viscous dissipation over a steady incompressible mixed convection boundary layer fluid flow along a vertical plate. Radiation and double dispersion are also taken into consideration. Further effect of homogeneous chemical reaction of order ’n’ is studied over the non-Darcy porous plate. Continuum equations that characterize fluid flow are transformed to a set of non linear ordinary differential equations through a suitable similarity transformation. These equations are then solved by MATLAB ’bvp4c’ iterative programming method. As a matter of accuracy and validation, available results are More >

    Fakher Oueslatia,b,†, Brahim Ben-Beyab

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-11, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.38

Abstract The current study deals with a numerical investigation of magnetoconvection and entropy generation within a lid driven square cavity subject to uniform magnetic field and filled with liquid metal. Effects of multiple parameters namely; the Prandtl, Hartmann and Richardson numbers were predicted and analyzed using a numerical methodology based on the finite volume method and a full multigrid technique. The numerical outcome of the present study shows that, the enhancement of Hartmann number declines the heat transfer rate for all liquid metals considered. Moreover, it is observed that augmenting the Richardson number leads to acceleration More >
