Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-7, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.31

Abstract Finite element method is adopted in analyzing a two dimensional partial differential equations of Navier Stokes that governs mass, momentum and energy for a convective heat transfer problem within a square cavity. The cavity walls kept at constant cold temperature except for the right wall being adiabatic. With an embedded circular heated block located in the cavity, simulations are performed to determine the effect of the position of the block at the top, middle and bottom of the cavity on natural convection. The experiments are carried out for different values of Rayleigh number varying from 103 – 106 by using… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-11, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.6

Abstract he numerical analysis of a V-shaped baffle effect on the natural convection inside a parallelogrammical cavity filled with two different water-based nanofluids (Al2O3 and Cu) were studied in this work. The enclosure walls were maintained at a constant hot and cold temperatures on the left and right walls sequentially. The horizontal walls were isolated, while the baffles located on the right wall and sharing the same cold temperature with it. The finite element method was used to derive and solve the governing equations. The flow and thermal fields computed for different arrangements of: the number of baffles inside the cavity… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-6, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.38

Abstract Numerical analysis of heat transfer by convection in a square with a rectangular shape heated block located at the top, center and bottommost has been numerically investigated by applying the principal partial differential equations governing mass, momentum and energy using discontinuous Galerkin weighted procedure for residual finite element with the view of examining the significance of position of rectangular shaped heated block encapsulated within the square cavity. The right wall being adiabatic while the other three walls are maintained at low constant temperature. The heated block is maintained constantly hot. The developed code of COMSOL Multiphysics is employed to perform… More >

Ravi Shankar Prasada,*,†, Ujjwal Kumar Nayaka, Rajen Kumar Nayaka, Amit Kumar Guptab

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-7, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.4

Abstract This paper presents the results of numerical analysis of coupled laminar natural convection and surface radiation in a two-dimensional closed square cavity with the inversely linearly heated vertical opposite side walls and the adiabatic top and bottom walls. The cavity is filled with natural air (Pr = 0.70) as the fluid medium. In the present study, the governing equations i.e., Navier-Stokes Equation in the stream function - vorticity form and Energy Equation are solved for a constant property fluid under the Boussinesq approximation. For discretization of these equations, the finite volume technique is used. For the radiation calculations, the radiosity-irradiation… More >

    Muneerah Al Nuwairan1,*, Elmiloud Chaabelasri2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.1, pp. 133-154, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.022649

Abstract In this paper, natural heat convection inside square and equilateral triangular cavities was studied using a meshless method based on collocation local radial basis function (RBF). The nanofluids used were Cu-water or -water mixture with nanoparticle volume fractions range of . A system of continuity, momentum, and energy partial differential equations was used in modeling the flow and temperature behavior of the fluids. Partial derivatives in the governing equations were approximated using the RBF method. The artificial compressibility model was implemented to overcome the pressure velocity coupling problem that occurs in such equations. The main goal of this work was… More > Graphic Abstract

Numerical Study of Natural Convective Heat Transfer in an Air Filled Square Cavity Heated from Below and Symmetrically Cooled from the Sides with a Partition in the Hot Wall

    Farah Zemani-Kaci*, Amina Sabeur-Bendhina

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.2, pp. 513-539, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021974

Abstract A two-dimensional numerical study of laminar natural convection in a square enclosure filled with air with a wall partially heated on the bottom is presented. The heat source is located on the lower wall with different heated widths varied from 20 to 80%(ε = 0.2–0.8) of the total width of the lower wall and different heights h = H/4 and H/2 of the partition. The effect of the partition height on the main system dynamics is investigated through solution of the two-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations and the energy equation by means of a finite volume method based on the SIMPLE algorithm.… More > Graphic Abstract

Turbulent Double-Diffusive Natural Convection and Entropy Generation within an Inclined Square Cavity

Khaled Said*, Ahmed Ouadha, Amina Sabeur

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 1619-1629, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022220

Abstract The present study deals with double-diffusive convection within a two-dimensional inclined cavity filled with an air-CO2 binary gas mixture. The left and the right vertical walls are differentially heated and subjected to different locations of (CO2) contaminants to allow for the variation of the buoyancy strength (N). However, the horizontal walls are assumed adiabatic. The simulations are conducted using the finite volume method to solve the conservation equations of continuity, momentum, energy, and species transport. Good agreement with other numerical results in the literature is obtained. The effect of multiple parameters, namely, buoyancy ratio (N), thermal Rayleigh number (Ra), and… More >

Abstract Two-dimensional transient laminar natural convection in a square cavity containing a porous medium and inclined at an angle of 30∘ is investigated numerically. The vertical walls are differentially heated, and the horizontal walls are adiabatic. The effect of Rayleigh number on heat transfer and on the road to chaos is analyzed. The natural heat transfer and the Darcy Brinkman equations are solved by using a finite volume method and a Tri Diagonal Matrix Algorithm (TDMA). The results are obtained for a porosity equal to 0.45, a Darcy number and a Prandtl respectively equal to 10−3 and 0.71; they are analyzed… More >

    Dolat Khan1, Gohar Ali1, Arshad Khan2, Ilyas Khan3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 1025-1034, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.012635

Abstract The basic objective of this work is to study the heat transfer of Casson fluid of non-Newtonian nature. The fluid is considered over a vertical plate such that the plate exhibits arbitrary wall shear stress at the boundary. Heat transfers due to exponential plate heating and natural convection are due to buoyancy force. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) analysis in the occurrence of a uniform magnetic field is also considered. The medium over the plate is porous and hence Darcy’s law is applied. The governing equations are established for the velocity and temperature fields by the usual Boussinesq approximation. The problem is first… More >
