Applying Neural Networks for Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems

    Alex Kost1, Wael A. Altabey2,3,4, Mohammad Noori1,2,*, Taher Awad4

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.13, No.3, pp. 247-266, 2019, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2019.07025

Abstract A proof-of-concept indirect tire-pressure monitoring system is developed using artificial neural networks to identify the tire pressure of a vehicle tire. A quarter-car model was developed with MATLAB and Simulink to generate simulated accelerometer output data. Simulation data are used to train and evaluate a recurrent neural network with long short-term memory blocks (RNN-LSTM) and a convolutional neural network (CNN) developed in Python with Tensorflow. Bayesian Optimization via SigOpt was used to optimize training and model parameters. The predictive accuracy and training speed of the two models with various parameters are compared. Finally, future work and improvements are discussed. More >

    Jun Sun1, Yan Li1, Yatian Shen1,*, Wenke Ding1, Xianjin Shi1, Lei Zhang1, Xiajiong Shen1, Jing He2

Journal of Information Hiding and Privacy Protection, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 69-75, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jihpp.2019.06357

Abstract Relation extraction is an important task in NLP community. However, some models often fail in capturing Long-distance dependence on semantics, and the interaction between semantics of two entities is ignored. In this paper, we propose a novel neural network model for semantic relation classification called joint self-attention bi-LSTM (SA-Bi-LSTM) to model the internal structure of the sentence to obtain the importance of each word of the sentence without relying on additional information, and capture Long-distance dependence on semantics. We conduct experiments using the SemEval-2010 Task 8 dataset. Extensive experiments and the results demonstrated that the proposed method is effective against… More >

    Caining Zhang1, Huaguang Li2, Xiaoya Guo3, David Molony4, Xiaopeng Guo2, Habib Samady4, Don P. Giddens4,5, Lambros Athanasiou6, Rencan Nie2,*, Jinde Cao3,*, Dalin Tang1,*,7

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.16, No.2, pp. 153-161, 2019, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2019.06873

Abstract Cardiovascular diseases are closely associated with deteriorating atherosclerotic plaques. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a recently developed intravascular imaging technique with high resolution approximately 10 microns and could provide accurate quantification of coronary plaque morphology. However, tissue segmentation of OCT images in clinic is still mainly performed manually by physicians which is time consuming and subjective. To overcome these limitations, two automatic segmentation methods for intracoronary OCT image based on support vector machine (SVM) and convolutional neural network (CNN) were performed to identify the plaque region and characterize plaque components. In vivo IVUS and OCT coronary plaque data from 5… More >

    Ruihan Zhang1,2, Junhao Yang1, Chunxiao Chen1,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.15, No.3, pp. 177-187, 2018, DOI: 10.3970/mcb.2018.04292

Abstract The proportion of cells staining for the nuclear antigen Ki-67 is an important predictive indicator for assessment of tumor cell proliferation and growth in routine pathological investigation. Instead of traditional scoring methods based on the experience of a trained laboratory scientist, deep learning approach can be automatically used to analyze the expression of Ki-67 as well. Deep learning based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) for image classification and single shot multibox detector (SSD) for object detection are used to investigate the expression of Ki-67 for assessment of biopsies from patients with breast cancer in this study. The results focus on… More >

    Zhong Liu1,2, Xinan Wang1,*, Kuntao Lu1, David Su3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.60, No.2, pp. 497-509, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.04882

Abstract ECG signal is of great importance in the clinical diagnosis of various heart diseases. The abnormal origin or conduction of excitation is the electrophysiological mechanism leading to arrhythmia, but the type and frequency of arrhythmia is an important indicator reflecting the stability of cardiac electrical activity. In clinical practice, arrhythmic signals can be classified according to the origin of excitation, the frequency of excitation, or the transmission of excitation. Traditional heart disease diagnosis depends on doctors, and it is influenced by doctors' professional skills and the department's specialty. ECG signal has the characteristics of weak signal, low frequency, large variation,… More >

A Neural Network-Based Trust Management System for Edge Devices in Peer-to-Peer Networks

    Alanoud Alhussain1, Heba Kurdi1,*, Lina Altoaimy2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.3, pp. 805-815, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05848

Abstract Edge devices in Internet of Things (IoT) applications can form peers to communicate in peer-to-peer (P2P) networks over P2P protocols. Using P2P networks ensures scalability and removes the need for centralized management. However, due to the open nature of P2P networks, they often suffer from the existence of malicious peers, especially malicious peers that unite in groups to raise each other's ratings. This compromises users' safety and makes them lose their confidence about the files or services they are receiving. To address these challenges, we propose a neural network-based algorithm, which uses the advantages of a machine learning algorithm to… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.1, pp. 79-87, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05882

Abstract In this study, machine learning representation is introduced to evaluate the flexoelectricity effect in truncated pyramid nanostructure under compression. A Non-Uniform Rational B-spline (NURBS) based IGA formulation is employed to model the flexoelectricity. We investigate 2D system with an isotropic linear elastic material under plane strain conditions discretized by 45×30 grid of B-spline elements. Six input parameters are selected to construct a deep neural network (DNN) model. They are the Young's modulus, two dielectric permittivity constants, the longitudinal and transversal flexoelectric coefficients and the order of the shape function. The outputs of interest are the strain in the stress direction… More >

Artificial Neural Network Methods for the Solution of Second Order Boundary Value Problems

    Cosmin Anitescu1, Elena Atroshchenko2, Naif Alajlan3, Timon Rabczuk3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.1, pp. 345-359, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.06641

Abstract We present a method for solving partial differential equations using artificial neural networks and an adaptive collocation strategy. In this procedure, a coarse grid of training points is used at the initial training stages, while more points are added at later stages based on the value of the residual at a larger set of evaluation points. This method increases the robustness of the neural network approximation and can result in significant computational savings, particularly when the solution is non-smooth. Numerical results are presented for benchmark problems for scalar-valued PDEs, namely Poisson and Helmholtz equations, as well as for an inverse… More >

    Lili Pan1, Jiaohua Qin1,*, Hao Chen2, Xuyu Xiang1, Cong Li1, Ran Chen1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.1, pp. 297-313, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.04097

Abstract Image retrieval for food ingredients is important work, tremendously tiring, uninteresting, and expensive. Computer vision systems have extraordinary advancements in image retrieval with CNNs skills. But it is not feasible for small-size food datasets using convolutional neural networks directly. In this study, a novel image retrieval approach is presented for small and medium-scale food datasets, which both augments images utilizing image transformation techniques to enlarge the size of datasets, and promotes the average accuracy of food recognition with state-of-the-art deep learning technologies. First, typical image transformation techniques are used to augment food images. Then transfer learning technology based on deep… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 19-38, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.030.019

Abstract Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are employed as an alternative to physical modeling for calculation of the relations between the production path process parameters (melting of scrap steel and alloying, continuous casting, hydrogen removal, reheating, rolling, and cooling on a cooling bed) and the final product mechanical properties (elongation, tensile strength, yield stress, hardness after rolling, necking) of steel semi products. They provide a much faster technique of response evaluation complementary to physical modeling. The Štore Steel company process path for production of steel bars is used as an example for demonstrating the approach. The applied ANN is of a multilayer… More >
