    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.2, pp. 429-445, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.030585

Abstract Water jet technology is widely used in submerged buried pipes as a non-traditional trenching process, often involving a complex sediment response. An important adjustable and influential engineering variable in this technology is represented by the impinging distance. In this study, the FLOW-3D software was used to simulate the jet scouring of sand beds in a submerged environment. In particular, four sets of experimental conditions were considered to discern the relationship between the maximum scour depth and mass and the impinging distance. As shown by the results, a critical impinging distance exists by which the static scour depth can be maximized;… More > Graphic Abstract

Zhuohuan Hua,*, Lulu Wanga, Hui Wangb, Mo Yanga

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.6, pp. 1-8, 2015, DOI:10.5098/hmt.6.16

Abstract A numerical investigation was conducted to study the heat transfer in an aircraft cabin and the effects of air distribution under different angle and inlet velocity conditions. The Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations and the low Reynolds number turbulence model were used to simulate the airflow in the cabin. Mathematical statistics was used to process the relevant data, and statistical results revealed that different inlet angles and velocities significantly affect air temperature and flow field. The study also determined a set of optimum matching inlet vane angles and inlet velocities that result in an environment which meets standard requirements and is energy… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.6, pp. 1-6, 2015, DOI:10.5098/hmt.6.14

Abstract A new type of metal-plastic composite heat radiator with hemispherical microstructure array was proposed in this paper. The influence of the geometrical parameters of the microstructure array, including size of the hemisphere, configuration of hemisphere, tilt angle of the radiator, thermal conductivity and radiation emissivity of the plastic, on the process of heat transfer under natural convection were numerically simulated. It was concluded that the metal-plastic composite heat radiator with hemispherical microstructure array had comparable heat transfer behaviors with those of metal heat radiator. So it is possible to replace metal heat radiator by such a metal-plastic composite heat radiator… More >

Amal A. Harbood*, Hameed K. Hamzah, Hatem H. Obeid

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 293-315, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.01518

Abstract The current work seeks to examine numerical heat transfer by using a complicated channel with a trapezoid shape hanging in the channel. This channel demonstrates two-dimensional laminar flow, forced convective flow, and incompressible flow. To explore the behavior of heat transfer in complex channels, several parameters, such as the constant Prandtl number (Pr = 6.9), volume fraction (ϕ) equal to (0.02 to 0.04), Cauchy number (Ca) equal to (10−4 to 10−8), and Reynolds number equal to (60 to 160) were utilized. At the complex channel, different elastic walls are used in different locations, with case A being devoid of an… More >

    Seyed Milad Mirabedin*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.7, pp. 1-6, 2016, DOI:10.5098/hmt.7.17

Abstract This work focuses on numerical validation of natural convection heat transfer of TiO2-water nanofluids in a cylindrical container using COMSOL. The main aim of this study is to examine different available approaches to calculate effective thermal conductivity and compare them with experimental data available in the literature. Simulation results show that for considered mixture, average Nusselt number decreases by increasing Rayleigh number and particle volume fraction. It has been found that only one model was able to represent similar trends for given particle volume fractions, compared to experimental results. More >

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.17, No.6, pp. 521-539, 2023, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2023.029850

Abstract Numerical simulation of the spatial wind field plays a very important role in the study of wind-induced response law of transmission tower structures. A reasonable construction of a numerical simulation method of the wind field is conducive to the study of wind-induced response law under the action of an actual wind field. Currently, many research studies rely on simulating spatial wind fields as Gaussian wind, often overlooking the basic non-Gaussian characteristics. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the historical development and current state of spatial wind field simulations, along with a detailed introduction to standard simulation methods.… More > Graphic Abstract
