Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.15, pp. 1-9, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.15.7

Abstract This article is a summary of research involving the evaluation of the thermo-physical properties of Mono-ethylene - glycol-based solar thermic fluids oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes. Nanofluids were prepared with Mono-ethylene glycol and water as base fluids in 100:0, 90:10 and 80:20 ratios. These base fluids of three categories were dispersed with purified and oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in the weight fractions of 0.125, 0.25 and 0.5 percentages. The variation in zeta potential is studied to examine the dispersion stability during 2 months. Thermal conductivity and dynamic viscosity were measured by hot disk method and Anton paar viscometer respectively. Significant… More >

Xintong Chen, Pinghua Zhu*, Xiancui Yan, Lei Yang, Huayu Wang

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.6, pp. 2953-2967, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027140

Abstract With the emphasis on environmental issues, the recycling of waste concrete, even recycled concrete, has become a hot spot in the field of architecture. But the repeated recycling of waste concrete used in harsh environments is still a complex problem. This paper discusses the durability and recyclability of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) as a prefabricated material in the harsh environment, the effect of high-temperature curing (60°C, 80°C, and 100°C) on the frost resistance of RAC and physical properties of the second generation recycled coarse aggregate (RCA2) of RAC after 300 freeze-thaw cycles were studied. The frost resistance of RAC was… More >

Effect of Polyisobutylene Succinimide on the Physical Stability of an Environmentally Friendly Pesticide Oil Dispersion Suspension

Liying Wang*, Junzhi Liu, Chong Gao, Xinxin Yan

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.6, pp. 2679-2694, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.025569

Abstract Oil dispersible suspension concentrates are safe, green, and environmentally friendly formulations. Problems such as layering, pasting, and bottoming are frequently encountered during the production, storage, and transportation process. Polyisobutylene succinimide functions as a dispersant and exhibits great potential to improve the physical stability of the oil dispersible suspension concentrate. From a microscopic perspective, the sorption characteristics of the polyisobutylene succinimide dispersant T151 on penoxsulam particle surfaces were comprehensively evaluated with XPS, FTIR, and SEM. The T151 adsorption procedure complied with a pseudo-second-order kinetic adsorption model, and it was a kind of physical sorption with an Ea of 22.57 kJ⋅mol−1. The T151… More > Graphic Abstract

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.6, pp. 2647-2663, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027372

Abstract This study aimed to characterize the physical-chemical and biological properties of pectin (PC)/chia seed mucilage (CM) membranes. PC/CM [100/0 (control), 80/20%, 60/40%, and 40/60% w/w] membranes were prepared using the casting method. The membranes (PC/CM) were thin, yellow, lightly opaque (≈10%) and capable of blocking light UVB (between 66 at 52%). SEM analysis showed the presence of aggregates in the shape of a sphere (≈13 µm) and ovoid (≈25 µm). The proportion of 80/20 showed an increase in tensile strength (29%) and elastic modulus (19%) when compared to the control. FTIR analysis exhibited intermolecular interactions between PCPC, PC-CM, and CM-CM… More > Graphic Abstract

Weak Expansive Soil Physical Properties Modification by Means of a Cement-Jute Fiber

    Zisheng Yang1, Wendong Li1, Xuelei Cheng1,2,*, Ran Hai1, Shunqun Li3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.8, pp. 2119-2130, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025444

Abstract Sixteen groups of comprehensive tests have been conducted to investigate the modifications in the physical properties of a weak expansive soil due to the addition of a cement jute fiber. The tests have been conducted to analyze the liquid plastic limit, the particle distribution and the free expansion rate. The results show that: (1) With an increase in the cement-jute fiber content, the free expansion rate of the modified expansive soil gradually decreases, however, such a rate rebounds when the fiber content exceeds 0.5% and the cement content exceeds 6%. (2) With an increase in the cement percentage, the particle… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 3715-3728, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.035687

Abstract Obesity is a critical health condition that severely affects an individual’s quality of life and well-being. The occurrence of obesity is strongly associated with extreme health conditions, such as cardiac diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and some types of cancer. Therefore, it is vital to avoid obesity and or reverse its occurrence. Incorporating healthy food habits and an active lifestyle can help to prevent obesity. In this regard, artificial intelligence (AI) can play an important role in estimating health conditions and detecting obesity and its types. This study aims to see obesity levels in adults by implementing AI-enabled machine learning on a… More >

Virtual Synchronous Generator Adaptive Control of Energy Storage Power Station Based on Physical Constraints

    Yunfan Huang1, Qingquan Lv2, Zhenzhen Zhang2, Haiying Dong1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.6, pp. 1401-1420, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.027365

Abstract The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) can simulate synchronous machine’s operation mechanism in the control link of an energy storage converter, so that an electrochemical energy storage power station has the ability to actively support the power grid, from passive regulation to active support. Since energy storage is an important physical basis for realizing the inertia and damping characteristics in VSG control, energy storage constraints of the physical characteristics on the system control parameters are analyzed to provide a basis for the system parameter tuning. In a classic VSG control, its virtual inertia and damping coefficient remain unchanged. When the grid… More >
