Abstract Objective: The characteristics of clinical features and prognoses among patients with different racial backgrounds have not been clearly studied. We thus investigated the clinical characteristics and overall survival (OS) differences among Asian, White, and Black patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs). Materials and Methods: The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was queried to identify patients with pNETs between 1983 and 2015. We performed univariable (UVA) and multivariable logistic regression (MVA) to assess the association between variables and race category. A Kaplan-Meier (KM) plot was used to calculate the OS rates. The Cox proportional hazard regression was used to… More >

    SHOUKAI YU1,2,3,*, LINGMEI QIAN1, JUN MA1,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 13-22, 2022, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.026141

Abstract Apolipoprotein E (APOE), a gene identified as one of the strongest genetic factors contributing to the risk determinant of developing late-onset Alzheimer’s disease (AD), may also contribute to the risk of cancer. However, no pan-cancer analysis has been conducted specifically for the APOE gene. In this study, we investigated the oncogenic role of the APOE gene across cancers by GEO (Gene Expression Omnibus) and TCGA (The Cancer Genome Atlas). Based on the available data, we found that most cancer types overexpress APOE, and clear associations exist between the expression level of APOE and prognosis in tumor patients. The expression of… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 309-318, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.025377

Abstract Chondroitin sulfate synthase 2 (CHPF) is characterized as an oncogenic and poor prognosis-related gene in breast cancer. However, this gene has alternative splicing products encoding proteins of different lengths. Breast cancer is a group of heterogeneous tumors with distinct clinical and genomic characteristics. In this study, we explored the expression profile and prognostic value of the two transcripts of CHPF using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-BRCA. The functional regulation of the two transcripts was also studied in MCF-7 and BT-474 cells. Among the two transcripts of CHPF, ENST00000535926 expression was significantly upregulated in the tumor samples and was… More >

    Saud S. Alotaibi*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 1815-1829, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.029446

Abstract One of the most critical objectives of precision farming is to assess the germination quality of seeds. Modern models contribute to this field primarily through the use of artificial intelligence techniques such as machine learning, which present difficulties in feature extraction and optimization, which are critical factors in predicting accuracy with few false alarms, and another significant difficulty is assessing germination quality. Additionally, the majority of these contributions make use of benchmark classification methods that are either inept or too complex to train with the supplied features. This manuscript addressed these issues by introducing a novel ensemble classification strategy dubbed… More >

Kinesin Motor Protein KIFC1 Is a Target Protein of miR-338-3p and Is Associated With Poor Prognosis and Progression of Renal Cell Carcinoma

Gang Li*, Tie Chong*, Jie Yang, Hongliang Li*, Haiwen Chen*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 125-137, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15213115046567

Abstract KIFC1 (kinesin family member C1) plays a critical role in clustering of extra centrosomes in various cancer cells and thus could be considered as a promising therapeutic target. However, whether KIFC1 is involved in the procession of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) still remains unclear. In this study, we found that KIFC1 was upregulated in RCC tissues and is responsible for RCC tumorigenesis (p<0.001). The high expression of KIFC1 correlates with aggressive clinicopathologic parameters. Kaplan–Meier analysis suggested that KIFC1 was associated with poor survival prognosis in RCC. Silencing KIFC1 dramatically resulted in inhibition of proliferation, delayed the cell cycle at G2/M… More >
