    Ting Chen1, Oh Kyung Kwon2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.6, pp. 2231-2242, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.021289

Abstract With the limited production and use of R245fa, environmentally friendly refrigerant has attracted the attention of researchers. Due to the similar thermal characteristics, R1233zd(E) is considered to be an ideal substitute for R245fa in heat pump systems. In this study, the performance and economic analysis of heat pump systems with R245fa and R1233zd(E) as refrigerants are carried out. The results show that the total cost of R1233zd(E) system is more than 10% higher than that of R245fa system under the same heating load. With the increase of condensation temperature, the heating capacity of both systems decreases, and with the increase… More >

SVM Algorithm for Vibration Fault Diagnosis in Centrifugal Pump

    Nabanita Dutta1, Palanisamy Kaliannan1,*, Paramasivam Shanmugam2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 2997-3020, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.028704

Abstract Vibration failure in the pumping system is a significant issue for industries that rely on the pump as a critical device which requires regular maintenance. To save energy and money, a new automated system must be developed that can detect anomalies at an early stage. This paper presents a case study of a machine learning (ML)-based computational technique for automatic fault detection in a cascade pumping system based on variable frequency drive (VFD). Since the intensity of the vibrational effect depends on which axis has the most significant effect, a three-axis accelerometer is used to measure it in the pumping… More >

LES Analysis of the Unsteady Flow Characteristics of a Centrifugal Pump Impeller

    Ting Zhang1, Denghao Wu1,2,*, Shijun Qiu2, Peijian Zhou1, Yun Ren3, Jiegang Mou1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.5, pp. 1349-1361, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019617

Abstract Stall phenomena increase the complexity of the internal flow in centrifugal pump impellers. In order to tackle this problem, in the present work, a large eddy simulation (LES) approach is applied to determine the characteristics of these unstable flows. Moreover, a vorticity identification method is used to characterize quantitatively the vortex position inside the impeller and its influencing area. By comparing the outcomes of the numerical simulations and experimental results provided by a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique, it is shown that an apparent “alternating stall” phenomenon exists inside the impeller when relatively small flow rate conditions are considered. The… More >

Case Analysis of a Pump-Driven Heat Pipe Heat Recovery Ventilator in an Existing Experiment Building

    Zhun Li1,2,3,*, Zhengrong Ouyang1,2, Tianbao Sun3, Qiang Li3, Xiaobo Zhao3, Rong Yu3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.4, pp. 1393-1402, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.020488

Abstract The building energy consumption is an important part among the total society energy consumption, in which the energy consumption for air conditioning occupies almost 70%. The energy consumption of the air conditioning system for fresh air handling can be saved effectively when the exhaust air energy could be recovered to preheat or precool the fresh air. Considering the install locations requirements on field, the pump-driven heat pipes (PHP) were developed as heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) and used in an existing experiment building in Beijing Urban. The thermal performance of the PHP HRVs was tested in real operation time periods under… More >

An Analytical Model for the Thermal Assessment of a Vertical Double U-Tube Ground-Coupled Heat Pump System in Steady-State Conditions

    Ali H. Tarrad*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.4, pp. 1111-1127, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021541

Abstract An analytical model was built to predict the thermal resistance of a vertical double U-tube ground-coupled heat pump that operates under steady-state conditions. It included a geometry obstruction factor for heat transfer throughout the backfill medium due to the presence of the second loop. The verification of the model was achieved by the implementation of five different borehole configurations and a comparison with other correlations in the available literature. The model considered a U-tube spacing range between (2) and (4) times the U-tube outside diameter producing a geometry configuration factor range of (0.29–0.6). The results of the model were utilized… More >

Optimization of the Structural Parameters of a Plastic Centrifugal Pump in the Framework of a Flow Field Analysis

    Wenbin Luo1,*, Youmin Wang1, Yuting Yan2, Yifang Shi1, Zhendong Zhang3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 789-813, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019691

Abstract In order to determine the optimal structural parameters of a plastic centrifugal pump in the framework of an orthogonal-experiment approach, a numerical study of the related flow field has been performed using CFX. The thickness S, outlet angle β2, inlet angle β1, wrap angle, and inlet diameter D1 of the splitter blades have been considered as the variable factors, using the shaft power and efficiency of the pump as evaluation indices. Through a parametric analysis, the relative importance of the influence of each structural parameter on each evaluation index has been obtained, leading to the following combinations: β1 19°, β2… More >

Yifang Shi*, Lingfeng Tang, Yinwu Tan, Wenbin Luo

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 713-736, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.018434

Abstract The structural design parameters of a plastic centrifugal pump were calculated and modeled, and flow field simulation analysis of the model was performed using CFD, in the framework of an orthogonal design method (or experiment). The inlet mounting angle β1, outlet mounting angle β2, wrap angle ϕ, and impeller inlet diameter D1 of the pump impeller were the four factors assumed for the application of the orthogonal experiment, using the efficiency and Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH) as evaluation indices. Moreover, taking the maximum efficiency and minimum NPSH of the plastic centrifugal pump as the evaluation factors, the parameters of… More >

    Zhihao Zheng1, Yanbo Che1,*, Hailian Bi1, Dan Wu1, Wei He2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 637-651, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.016661

Abstract With the implementation of electric energy alternatives, the large-scale application of electric energy substitution represented by air-source heat pumps has replaced traditional coal-fired heating, which is beneficial for the environment and alleviates air pollution. However, the large-scale application of air-source heat pumps has brought power quality problems such as voltage sags, harmonic pollution, and three-phase imbalance to the distribution network. This paper studies the fixed-frequency and variable-frequency air-source heat pump, introduces its working principle, analyzes the mechanism of its power quality problem. Moreover, the paper establishes a simulation model for the fixed-frequency heat pump and variable-frequency heat pump to connect… More >
