    Yanjun Li1, Wandong Zhang1, Jiang Wu1, Yuhao Yang1, Chao Zhang1, Huanqiang Yang2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.5, pp. 1237-1248, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.023147 - 30 November 2022

Abstract Air channeling in the annulus between the casing and the cement sheath and/or between the cement sheath and formation is the main factor affecting the safe operation of natural gas wells at high temperatures and pressures. Prevention of this problem requires, in general, excellent anti-channeling performances of the cement sheath. Three methods to predict such anti-channeling performances are proposed here, which use the weightless pressure of cement slurry, the permeability of cement stone and the volume expansion rate of cement sheath as input parameters. Guided by this approach, the anti-channeling performances of the cement slurry More >

Abstract Generation of massive data is increasing in big data industries due to the evolution of modern technologies. The big data industries include data source from sensors, Internet of Things, digital and social media. In particular, these big data systems consist of data extraction, preprocessing, integration, analysis, and visualization mechanism. The data encountered from the sources are redundant, incomplete and conflict. Moreover, in real time applications, it is a tedious process for the interpretation of all the data from different sources. In this paper, the gathered data are preprocessed to handle the issues such as redundant,… More >

    Xiaolei Li*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 665-680, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.019292 - 24 January 2022

Abstract Aiming at the difficulty of rolling bearing fault diagnosis of wind turbine under noise environment, a new bearing fault identification method based on the Improved Anti-noise Residual Shrinkage Network (IADRSN) is proposed. Firstly, the vibration signals of wind turbine rolling bearings were preprocessed to obtain data samples divided into training and test sets. Then, a bearing fault diagnosis model based on the improved anti-noise residual shrinkage network was established. To improve the ability of fault feature extraction of the model, the convolution layer in the deep residual shrinkage network was replaced with a Dense-Net layer. More >

Study of Mutual Improvement of Completed Weathered Phyllite and Red Clay Based on Neutralization Effects of Swelling and Shrinkage Deformation

    Xiushao Zhao1, Qijing Yang1,2,*, Jianglong Rao1, Daxin Geng1, Zhouyong Tan1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.1, pp. 203-218, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015854 - 27 July 2021

Abstract Completely weathered phyllite (CWP) soil is a kind of special soil with high swell potential, while red clay is a special soil with high shrinkage. This means that these two kinds of special soils are usually not suitable for direct use as subgrade fill. To reduce the swell index of the CWP soil and the shrinkage of red clay at the same time, it was proposed to blend the CWP soil with red clay to improve their basic characteristics. A series of swell index tests and dry-wet cycle tests of the blended soils have been… More > Graphic Abstract

Efficient Concurrent L1-Minimization Solvers on GPUs

    Xinyue Chu1, Jiaquan Gao1,*, Bo Sheng2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 305-320, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.017144 - 19 May 2021

Abstract Given that the concurrent L1-minimization (L1-min) problem is often required in some real applications, we investigate how to solve it in parallel on GPUs in this paper. First, we propose a novel self-adaptive warp implementation of the matrix-vector multiplication (Ax) and a novel self-adaptive thread implementation of the matrix-vector multiplication (ATx), respectively, on the GPU. The vector-operation and inner-product decision trees are adopted to choose the optimal vector-operation and inner-product kernels for vectors of any size. Second, based on the above proposed kernels, the iterative shrinkage-thresholding algorithm is utilized to present two concurrent L1-min solvers from More >

Minimizing Warpage for Macro-Size Fused Deposition Modeling Parts

    Thanh Thuong Huynh1, Tien V. T. Nguyen2,3, Quoc Manh Nguyen4, Trieu Khoa Nguyen2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.3, pp. 2913-2923, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016064 - 06 May 2021

Abstract In this study, we investigated warpage and corner lifting minimization for three-dimensional printed parts generated by macro-size fused deposition modeling (FDM). First, the reasons for warpage were theoretically elucidated. This approach revealed that the thermal deformation and differential volumetric shrinkage of the extruded molten plastic resulted in warpage of FDM parts. In addition, low adhesion between the deposited model and the heated or non-heated printing bed may intensify warpage further. As a next step, initial small-size and medium-size models were used to identify parameters to manage and minimize warpage in a way that would reduce… More >

Covalent and Ionic Bonding between Tannin and Collagen in Leather Making and Shrinking: A MALDI-ToF Study

    Antonio Pizzi*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.8, pp. 1345-1364, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015663 - 08 April 2021

Abstract Collagen powder hydrolysates were reacted with a solution of commercial mimosa bark tannin extract. The mixture was prepared at ambient temperature and prepared at 80°C to determine what reactions, if any, did occur between the collagen protein through its amino acids and the polyphenolic condensed tannin. The reaction products obtained were analyzed by matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI ToF) mass spectrometry. Reactions between the two materials did appear to occur, with the formation of a relatively small proportion of covalent and ionic linkages at ambient temperature but a considerable proportion of covalent linkages… More >

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.36, No.4, pp. 323-335, 2019, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2019.36.04.3

Abstract Types of nucleating agents and their dosage level play an important role on the crystallinity of the polymer which controls the final properties like optical clarity, stiffness and reduced cycle time during molding. In this study, the efficiency of two different types of commercially available nucleating agents, phosphate ester and dicarboxylic acid based, have been studied. Both the nucleating agents were compounded with molding grade polypropylene homopolymer having melt flow index (MFI) of 12 g/10min at 2.16 Kg and 230°C, in a co-rotating twin screw extruder at two different dosage level, i.e. 300 ppm and… More >

Long-term Analyses of Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Arches Accounting for Interval Uncertainty

    Yong-Lin Pi1, Mark Andrew Bradford1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.99, No.3, pp. 233-253, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.099.233

Abstract Creep and shrinkage of the concrete core of a concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) arch under sustained loading are inevitable, and cause a long-term change of the equilibrium configuration of the CFST arch. As the equilibrium configuration changes continuously, the long-term radial and axial displacements of the CFST arch, stress distributions as well as the internal forces in the steel tube and the concrete core change substantially with time. Creep and shrinkage of the concrete core are related to a number of its material parameters such as its creep coefficient, aging coefficient, and shrinkage strain. The… More >

Constitutive Modeling of Early-Age Concrete by a Stochastic Multi-scale Method

    S. Liu1, X. Liu2,3, Y. Yuan2, H. A. Mang4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.100, No.3, pp. 157-200, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.100.157

Abstract A nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive model for early age concrete is presented in this paper. In this model, time-dependent properties, such as the elastic modulus, and thermal and autogenous shrinkage deformations, are computed by a stochastic multi-scale method, in which three different scales are specified according to the requirement of separation of scales, and different scales are linked by means of the asymptotic expansion theory with the help of specific representative volume elements (RVE). Thus, a cross-scale research from the cement paste to the macro structure of concrete is realized, and performance-based optimization of cement-based materials… More >
