Optimizing Silver Nanoparticle Concentrations to Improve the In Vitro Regeneration and Growth of Phalaenopsis Orchids

Hay Mon Aung1, Aung Htay Naing2,*, Chang Kil Kim2, Kyeung II Park1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.94, No.9, pp. 2719-2727, 2025, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2025.068713 - 30 September 2025

Abstract Phalaenopsis orchids are economically important ornamental crops; however, their commercial micropropagation is often limited by poor rooting efficiency and inconsistent growth. In this study, we investigated the effects of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) on the in vitro regeneration and growth of Phalaenopsis cultivar 611B to determine the optimal concentration of Ag-NPs for improved micropropagation outcomes. Shoot tip explants (2–3 mm)—derived from protocorm-like bodies were cultured on a regeneration medium containing Hyponex (20:20:20 and 6.5:6.5:19), 18 g/L sugar, 2 g/L peptone, 0.8 g/L activated charcoal, 12.5 g/L potato extract, 50 mL/L apple juice, and 10 mg/L 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA), with… More >

    Irina Postnova1,2, Valeria Kurilenko3, Yury Shchipunov1,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.13, No.7, pp. 1293-1313, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2025.02024-0032 - 22 July 2025

Abstract The main objective of the study was to prepare a highly active antimicrobial remedy by combining active agents such as tannic acid and silver nanoparticles, which are usually used separately. This was achieved by applying a coating of 11 alternating layers of an insoluble complex of tannic acid with polyvinyl alcohol on paper by the layer-by-layer approach, on the surface of which uniformly distributed spherical silver nanoparticles of uniform size, mainly 20–30 nm, were synthesized by in situ reduction using tannic acid, which also acts as a stabilizer, or an external reducing agent, which prevented polyphenol More > Graphic Abstract

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.13, No.5, pp. 849-863, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2025.02024-0061 - 20 May 2025

Abstract In this research, the antibacterial properties of a composite material prepared from agave bagasse cellulose fibers doped with silver nanoparticles and chitosan were studied. The development of composite materials with antibacterial properties and environmentally friendly based on cellulose fibers from agave bagasse with silver nanoparticles prepared by green synthesis and chitosan from shrimp waste enhances the value of these agro-industrial wastes and offers the opportunity for them to have biomedical applications since these raw materials have been poorly reported for this application. The antibacterial properties of chitosan and silver nanoparticles are already known. However, the… More > Graphic Abstract

    Zhongqing Zhang1, Bo Wan1,*, Guicui Fu1, Yutai Su2,*, Zhaoxi Wu3, Xiangfen Wang1, Xu Long2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 441-458, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.043616 - 30 December 2023

Abstract Sintered silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are widely used in high-power electronics due to their exceptional properties. However, the material reliability is significantly affected by various microscopic defects. In this work, the three primary micro-defect types at potential stress concentrations in sintered AgNPs are identified, categorized, and quantified. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are employed to observe the failure evolution of different microscopic defects. The dominant mechanisms responsible for this evolution are dislocation nucleation and dislocation motion. At the same time, this paper clarifies the quantitative relationship between the tensile strain amount and the failure mechanism transitions of More >

Antibacterial Chitosan-Gelatin Microcapsules Modified with Green-Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles for Food Packaging

Long Li, Yanan Lu, Yu Chen, Jiayi Bian, Li Wang, Li Li*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.1, pp. 291-307, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.021456 - 10 August 2022

Abstract Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) are an effective antibacterial agent, but their application in food packaging is limited due to their easy agglomeration and oxidation. In this study, antibacterial microcapsules were fabricated using Ginkgo biloba essential oil (GBEO) as core material and chitosan and type B gelatin biopolymer as capsule materials. These antibacterial microcapsules were then modified with green-synthesized Ag NPs, blended into the biopolymer polylactic acid (PLA), and finally formed as films. Physicochemical properties and antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) were evaluated. Results showed that the prepared antibacterial PLA films exhibited excellent antibacterial More > Graphic Abstract

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-9, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.24

Abstract When nanofluid (NF) is used as the working fluid in a rectangular two-phase closed thermosyphon (RTPCT), the formations and heat performance of two-phase flow patterns are explored qualitatively. Silver nanoparticles were mixed with deionized water at a concentration of 0.5 wt% in the NF. Nanoparticles improved the thermal contact surface area within the base flow, allowing the base fluid to boil quickly and easily. When the working fluid was boiled, NF also demonstrated high thermal conductivity capabilities, which diffused and moved along with the dual flow patterns. As a result, these qualities improved the RTPCT's More >

Abstract Custard apple is a dry land fruit. Its leaves exhibit different pharmacological activities. In the present study, both silver (Ag) nanoparticles and chitosan-coated Ag (Chi-Ag) nanoparticles were fabricated using the aqueous leaf extract of the custard apple plant. During preliminary phytochemical analysis, various types of phytocompounds were found in the aqueous leaf extract of the same plant. Next, both nanoparticles were physiochemically characterized. FTIR analysis exhibited the fingerprint vibrational peaks of active bioactive compounds in plant extract, Ag nanoparticles, and Chi-Ag nanoparticles. UV/Visible spectral analysis revealed the highest absorbance peak at 419 nm, indicating the More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract In the present study, the biogenic silver nanoparticles have been synthesized using aqueous leaf extract of Plectranthus amboinicus (PA), which acted as both reducing and stabilizing agents. The PA synthesized silver nanoparticles were blended with carboxymethyl cellulose/polyvinyl alcohol (CMC/PVA) biocomposite. The prepared AgNPs as well as the biogenic AgNPs incorporated CMC/PVA films were investigated using UV-visible spectrophotometry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and X–ray diffraction (XRD). The DLS results showed that biogenic AgNPs had the average particle size of 65.70 nm with polydispersity index of 0.44. The surface plasmon… More > Graphic Abstract
