Abstract In recent years, there are numerous studies on chaotic systems with special equilibrium curves having various shapes such as circle, butterfly, heart and apple. This paper describes a new 3-D chaotic dynamical system with a capsule-shaped equilibrium curve. The proposed chaotic system has two quadratic, two cubic and two quartic nonlinear terms. It is noted that the proposed chaotic system has a hidden attractor since it has an infinite number of equilibrium points. It is also established that the proposed chaotic system exhibits multi-stability with two coexisting chaotic attractors for the same parameter values but differential initial states. A detailed… More >

LOW-ORDER MODEL OF THE DYNAMICS AND START-UP OF A PULSATING HEAT PIPE

    Felix Schilya,∗, Wolfgang Polifkea

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.17, pp. 1-15, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.17.16

Abstract A simple open-loop pulsating heat pipe model is proposed, which allows to analytically determine the start-up behavior by a linear stability analysis. Two distinct types of instability can occur in such a pulsating heat pipe: oscillatory and non-oscillatory. This paper demonstrates that for bubbles consisting of non-condensible gas, large temperature gradients along the wall are required to achieve start-up, whereas start-up is fairly easy to achieve when there is only a single working medium that forms bubbles from its vapor. The study also finds that surface tension as such only influences start-up indirectly, while contact angle hysteresis dampens out any… More >

Liying Wang*, Junzhi Liu, Chong Gao, Xinxin Yan

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.6, pp. 2679-2694, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.025569

Abstract Oil dispersible suspension concentrates are safe, green, and environmentally friendly formulations. Problems such as layering, pasting, and bottoming are frequently encountered during the production, storage, and transportation process. Polyisobutylene succinimide functions as a dispersant and exhibits great potential to improve the physical stability of the oil dispersible suspension concentrate. From a microscopic perspective, the sorption characteristics of the polyisobutylene succinimide dispersant T151 on penoxsulam particle surfaces were comprehensively evaluated with XPS, FTIR, and SEM. The T151 adsorption procedure complied with a pseudo-second-order kinetic adsorption model, and it was a kind of physical sorption with an Ea of 22.57 kJ⋅mol−1. The T151… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract There are five most widely used contact angle schemes in the pseudopotential lattice Boltzmann (LB) model for simulating the wetting phenomenon: The pseudopotential-based scheme (PB scheme), the improved virtual-density scheme (IVD scheme), the modified pseudopotential-based scheme with a ghost fluid layer constructed by using the fluid layer density above the wall (MPB-C scheme), the modified pseudopotential-based scheme with a ghost fluid layer constructed by using the weighted average density of surrounding fluid nodes (MPB-W scheme) and the geometric formulation scheme (GF scheme). But the numerical stability and accuracy of the schemes for wetting simulation remain unclear in the past. In… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.1, pp. 455-487, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.025993

Abstract Slope stability prediction plays a significant role in landslide disaster prevention and mitigation. This paper’s reduced error pruning (REP) tree and random tree (RT) models are developed for slope stability evaluation and meeting the high precision and rapidity requirements in slope engineering. The data set of this study includes five parameters, namely slope height, slope angle, cohesion, internal friction angle, and peak ground acceleration. The available data is split into two categories: training (75%) and test (25%) sets. The output of the RT and REP tree models is evaluated using performance measures including accuracy (Acc), Matthews correlation coefficient (Mcc), precision… More >

    Yihan Sun1,2, Lihua Chu3, Yudong Cheng4,*, Fengxia Chi1,2, Chenchen Zhang1,2, Pengcheng Sun1,2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.8, pp. 2171-2180, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026892

Abstract In general, acid aggregates are not used in combination with asphalt concrete because of their poor compatibility with the asphalt binder, which typically results in a scarce water stability of the concrete. In the present study, the feasibility of a new approach based on the combination of acid granite fine aggregate with alkaline limestone coarse aggregate and Portland cement filler has been assessed. The mineral and chemical compositions of these three materials have first been analyzed and compared. Then, the effect of different amounts of Portland cement (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the total filler by weight) on… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 3425-3446, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.034854

Abstract With the daily expansion of global energy consumption, developing the power grids is of uttermost importance. However, building a new transmission line is costly and time-consuming, so utilizing the same lines with possible higher transmission capacity is very cost-effective. In this regard, to increase the capacity of the transmission lines, the flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) has been widely used in power grids in recent years by industrialized countries. One of the essential topics in electrical power systems is the reactive power compensation, and the FACTS plays a significant role in controlling the reactive power current in the power… More >

A Study on the Nonlinear Caputo-Type Snakebite Envenoming Model with Memory

    Pushpendra Kumar1,*, Vedat Suat Erturk2, V. Govindaraj1, Dumitru Baleanu3,4,5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.3, pp. 2487-2506, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.026009

Abstract In this article, we introduce a nonlinear Caputo-type snakebite envenoming model with memory. The well-known Caputo fractional derivative is used to generalize the previously presented integer-order model into a fractional-order sense. The numerical solution of the model is derived from a novel implementation of a finite-difference predictor-corrector (L1-PC) scheme with error estimation and stability analysis. The proof of the existence and positivity of the solution is given by using the fixed point theory. From the necessary simulations, we justify that the first-time implementation of the proposed method on an epidemic model shows that the scheme is fully suitable and time-efficient… More >

Zhenguo Wang, Lenan Wang, Yejing Meng*, Yong Wen, Jianzhong Pei

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.5, pp. 2469-2489, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.025497

Abstract In the field of roads, due to the effect of vehicle loads, piezoelectric materials under the road surface can convert mechanical vibration into electrical energy, which can be further used in road facilities such as traffic signals and street lamps. The barium titanate/polyvinylidene fluoride (BaTiO3/PVDF) composite, the most common hybrid ceramic-polymer system, was widely used in various fields because the composite combines the good dielectric property of ceramic materials with the good flexibility of PVDF material. Previous studies have found that conductive particles can further improve the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of other composites. However, few studies have investigated the… More >
