A Calculation Method of Double Strength Reduction for Layered Slope Based on the Reduction of Water Content Intensity

    Feng Shen1,*, Yang Zhao1, Bingyi Li1, Kai Wu2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.1, pp. 221-243, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.029159

Abstract The calculation of the factor of safety (FOS) is an important means of slope evaluation. This paper proposed an improved double strength reduction method (DRM) to analyze the safety of layered slopes. The physical properties of different soil layers of the slopes are different, so the single coefficient strength reduction method (SRM) is not enough to reflect the actual critical state of the slopes. Considering that the water content of the soil in the natural state is the main factor for the strength of the soil, the attenuation law of shear strength of clayey soil changing with water content is… More >

    Xiaochen Wang1,*, Wei Tian2, Shengxi Zhou2, Peng Li1, Zhichun Yang2, Yiren Yang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.010582

Abstract The complex damping influences on the instability characteristics of the panel aero-thermo-elastic system are theoretically investigated from the energy perspectives. Firstly, by assuming a constant, uniform thermal loading and adopting the piston theory, the panel aeroelastic governing equation is obtained. After deriving the panel buckling and vibration modes, the reduced order model can be built and adopted to investigate the system primary instability in the modal coordinates. Then, introducing the modal damping coefficients ratio η > 0, the critical parameters of the panel flutter oscillation are theoretically evaluated based on the on-conservative energy balance principle, thus the system instability characteristics… More >

On the Static Aeroelasticity Instability of an Inverted Cantilever Plate with a Crack Under Steady Axial Airflow

    Junzhe Cui1, Dechun Zhang1, Peng Li1,*, Yiren Yang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.010401

Abstract This study investigates the static instability of a cracked plate in subsonic airflow. The plate model is an inverted cantilever plate, where its leading edge is free and the trailing edge the clamped. A mathematical model of the crack is developed using the Dirac function, while Theodorsen aerodynamic mode is applied for the fluid force. To account for angle discontinuity caused by cracks, Fourier expansion is employed to transform the form corresponding to the angle into a continuous model. The critical divergent dynamic pressure and mode of an inverted cantilever plate with a crack are calculated using the Galerkin method.… More >

Peridynamic Investigation of Surface Stability in Stress-Assisted Corrosion

    Shuaiqi Fan1,*, Chenwen Tian2, Yunpeng Liu2, Ziguang Chen2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09286

Abstract The peridynamic stress-assisted corrosion model is used to study the stability of the corrosion front of metallic materials under tensile mechanical load. The results show that the solution diffusion trends to smooth the corrosion front, while stress corrosion roughens the corrosion front and leads to higher stress concentrations. Compared to the initial concave profile, the initial convex profile helps to reduce the stressassisted corrosion rate and reduces the role of stress in stress-assisted corrosion. The critical stress of stress-assisted corrosion is introduced in the research, below which the roughness of the corrosion front gradually decreases, meaning that the corrosion front… More >

    Changyao Chen1, Jialei Song1,*, Ling Yin1, Yizhe Li2, Zheng Yuan2, Yuhan Li3

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09859

Abstract Bird can switch between high maneuverability and high stability due to its ability to substantially morph wings and tail. Tail as an auxiliary lift surface, plays an important role on lift and drag production and also significantly affects the longitudinal stability. In this study, we reconstruct a high-fidelity barn owl model using the point cloud of its surface obtained from high-speed photogrammetry, and simulate the fluid dynamics using a commercial software. By virtually manipulating the tail to a series of postures, we analyze the aerodynamics and static stability for each tail posture, investigating the strategy to adjust the stability during… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.3, pp. 2409-2425, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.028674

Abstract This paper presents a restricted SIR mathematical model to analyze the evolution of a contagious infectious disease outbreak (COVID-19) using available data. The new model focuses on two main concepts: first, it can present multiple waves of the disease, and second, it analyzes how far an infection can be eradicated with the help of vaccination. The stability analysis of the equilibrium points for the suggested model is initially investigated by identifying the matching equilibrium points and examining their stability. The basic reproduction number is calculated, and the positivity of the solutions is established. Numerical simulations are performed to determine if… More >

Computation of PoA for Selfish Node Detection and Resource Allocation Using Game Theory

    S. Kanmani1,*, M. Murali2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 2583-2598, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.037265

Abstract The introduction of new technologies has increased communication network coverage and the number of associating nodes in dynamic communication networks (DCN). As the network has the characteristics like decentralized and dynamic, few nodes in the network may not associate with other nodes. These uncooperative nodes also known as selfish nodes corrupt the performance of the cooperative nodes. Namely, the nodes cause congestion, high delay, security concerns, and resource depletion. This study presents an effective selfish node detection method to address these problems. The Price of Anarchy (PoA) and the Price of Stability (PoS) in Game Theory with the Presence of… More >

Junjie Chen* , Wenya Song, Deguang Xu

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-10, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.21

Abstract The combustion and heat transfer characteristics of hydrogen-air or methane-air mixtures in catalytic micro-combustors were studied numerically to assess the impact of wall thermal properties and key operation parameters on the thermal uniformity. A two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was developed with detailed hetero-/homogeneous chemistry, heat conduction within the solid wall, surface radiation heat transfer, and external heat losses. Parametric studies were carried out to investigate the effect of wall thermal conductivity, feed composition, and flow rate on the thermal uniformity during highly exothermic catalytic reactions. Comparisons of hydrogen- with methane-air systems were made. Based on these insights, an… More >

    Yun Whan Na* , J. N. Chung

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.11, pp. 1-14, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.11.36

Abstract Flow instabilities of convective two-phase boiling in a trapezoidal microchannel were investigated. using a three-dimensional numerical model. Parameters such as wall temperature and inlet pressure that characterize the instability phenomena of flow boiling with periodic flow patterns were studied at different channel wall heat fluxes and flow mass fluxes. Results were obtained for various wall heat flux levels and mass flow rates. The numerical results showed that large amplitude and short period oscillations for wall temperature and inlet pressure fluctuations are major characteristics of flow instability. The wall temperature fluctuations are mainly initiated by the transition from bubbly to slug… More >
