    Abstract In this work, carbonized mussel shell powder (CMSP) was modified by alkyl polyglucosides (APG) and rhamnolipid (RL) to render porous biomass a lipophilic surface, which was innovatively utilized as an environmentally friendly tableware cleaning material. The modified method was two-step hydrotherm-assisted synthesis. A contact angle meter was used to determine the surface hydrophobic property of modified samples (MTAR).     Abstract An increasing number of studies provide evidence for the existence of a microbiota-gut-brain axis and its potential involvement in the development of sporadic Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. The neuropathologic hallmark of Parkinson’s disease is the presence of brain intraneuronal aggregates of misfolded alpha-synuclein, known as Lewy bodies. Some gut microbiota products may trigger alpha-synuclein conformational changes in the neurons of the enteric nervous system, which can then spread to the brain in a prion-like fashion through the vagus nerve. An N-parallel finitely extensible nonlinear elastic model with Peterlin’s approximation (FENE-P) is used to describe the rheological behaviors of non-Newtonian fluid with surfactant. To close the filtered LES equations, a hybrid subgrid scale (SGS) model coupling the spatial filter and temporal filter is applied to compute the subgrid stress and other subfilter terms.     Abstract Waste cooking oils and non-edible vegetable oils are abundant and renewable resources for bio-based materials which have showed great potential applications in many industries. In this study, five fatty acids commonly found in non-edible vegetable oils, including palmitic acid, stearic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, ricinoleic acid, and their mixtures, were used to produce bio-based zwitterionic surfactants through a facile and high-yield chemical modification.     Abstract Polypyrrole/Poly(vinyl acetate) (PPy/PVAc) copolymer was prepared by the copolymerization of vinyl acetate and pyrrole using FeCl3 and benzoylperoxide as an oxidant in the presence of various surfactants such as sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and poly (ethylene glycol) in the aqueous/non-aqueous media. The PPy/PVAc copolymer was characterized in terms of conductivity, morphology, chemical structure, particle size and yield.     Abstract Wood nanofibers from industrial waste have been used as polymeric material to reinforce the cement paste to a content of up to 2% by weight of cement. The effect of the wood nanofibre content on the porosity, the compressive strength and the degree of hydration of the cement was studied. The results showed an improvement in compressive strength of over 50% with 1% of added fiberwood.     Characterization and Influence of Nanofiber Flours of Wood Modified on Fresh State Properties of Cement Based Mortars

    Abstract Nanofibrillated wood fiber was used as fillers in the partial cement matrix replacing the cement to a content of up to 2% by weight of cement. The nanofibrillated effect of wood fibers on porosity, thermal properties and compressive strength was studied. The results obtained showed an improvement in compressive strength of more than 40% with 1% by weight of wood fiber nanofibrillate.     Abstract The current article addresses a new strategy for the preparation of polylactic acid/cellulose nanocrystal (PLA/CNCs) nanobiocomposite films with improved structural morphology, mechanical and barrier properties for food packaging applications.
