    Ismail Shah1,2, Jing Li1,2,*, Shengyuan Yang1, Yubo Zhang1, Aftab Anwar1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.5, pp. 1307-1320, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.017513 - 22 December 2021

Abstract Recently, addition of various natural fibers to high strength concrete has aroused great interest in the field of building materials. This is because natural fibers are much cheaper and locally available, as compare to synthetic fibers. Keeping in view, this current research conducted mainly focuses on the static properties of hybridized (sisal/coir), sisal and coir fiber-reinforced concrete. Two types of natural fibers sisal and coir were used in the experiment with different lengths of 10, 20 and 30 mm and various natural fiber concentrations of 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% by mass of cement, to investigate… More > Graphic Abstract

Mechanotransduction-The relationship between gravity, cells and tensile loading in extracellular matrix

    FREDERICK H. SILVER

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 297-299, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.017406 - 20 October 2021

Abstract Gravity plays a central role in vertebrate development and evolution. Mechanotransduction involves the tensile tethering of veins and arteries, connections between the epidermis and dermis in skin, tensile stress concentrations that occur at tissue interfaces, cell-cell interactions, cell-collagen fiber stress transfer in extracellular matrix and fluid shear flow. While attention in the past has been directed at understanding the myriad of biochemical players associated with mechanotransduction pathways, less attention has been focused on determining the tensile mechanical behavior of tissues in vivo. Fibroblasts sit on the surface of collagen fibers in living skin and exert a More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.11, pp. 1959-1972, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.016786 - 04 June 2021

Abstract Alkali lignin was processed by plasma and then used in modification of phenol formaldehyde resin in this study. Chemical structural changes of lignin which was processed by plasma as well as bonding strength, tensile property, curing performance and thermal property of the prepared phenol formaldehyde resin which was modified by the plasma processed lignin were analyzed. Results demonstrated that: (1) Alkali lignin was degraded after the plasma processing. The original groups were destroyed, and the aromatic rings collected abundant free radicals and oxygen-containing functional groups like hydroxyls, carbonyls, carboxyls and acyls were introduced into increase… More > Graphic Abstract

    Kengo Fujii1, Satoru Yoneyama1, Ayaka Suzuki2, Hiroshi Yamada2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.23, No.1, pp. 21-21, 2021, DOI:10.32604/icces.2021.08538

Abstract This study establishes a method to measure the displacement and strain of rubber with large and fast deformations using digital image correlation. In order to elucidate the mechanism of growth of a crack and to investigate the complex behavior of a crack tip, which is important for that purpose, displacement and strain near the crack where large strains are locally generated by stress concentration are measured. A displacement restraint rubber sheet of a strip fixed at upper and lower ends with an initial crack is used as a test piece. A constant rate displacement load… More >
