    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.1, pp. 71-80, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.017922

Abstract In this study a Cu43Zr48Al9 bulk metallic glass prepared by the copper mold casting method is considered. In recent years, Cu-Zr-Al systems like this have enjoyed widespread attention due to their high strength, high hardness, high corrosion resistance and low cost. Here samples of this substance are studied using DSC (Differential scanning calorimetry) to determine the effect of different test conditions (heating rate, sample mass, sample specific surface area and sample crystal phase) on the characteristic thermodynamic temperature of the bulk metallic glass. Experimental results show that almost all of the five characteristic thermodynamic temperatures (Tg, Tx, Tp, Tm, Tl)… More >

Abstract Spirulina is a sort of algae that grows in both fresh and seawater. It is considered the Earth’s most nutritionally dense food. Certain claims about Spirulina’s beneficial health properties are attributed to the relatively high protein content of the cells. Spirulina’s lipid, fatty acid profile, and biochemical composition have received little attention. The purpose of this study is to investigate the nature and decomposition of spirulina biomass at various temperatures. In the present investigation, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and elemental analysis were used to study spirulina biomass biochemical characteristics. The optimal content of spirulina protein, lipid, and the… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.126, No.3, pp. 1011-1031, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.013982

Abstract In this paper, the subdomain analysis model of the eddy current brake (ECB) is established. By comparing with the finite element method, the accuracies of the subdomain model and the finite element model are verified. Furthermore, the resistance characteristics of radial, axial, and Halbach arrays under impact load are calculated and compared. The axial array has a large braking force coefficient but low critical velocity. The radial array has a low braking force coefficient but high critical velocity. The Halbach array has the advantages of the first two arrays. Not only the braking force coefficient is large, but also the… More >

    O. Gil-Castell1, J. D. Badia1,2, A. Ribes-Greus1,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.6, No.4, pp. 370-382, 2018, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2017.634170

Abstract A blending strategy of virgin and reprocessed polylactide may be postulated as an alternative to reduce the material cost at industrial level, and as a valorization route to plastic waste management of production scraps. The performance of blends prepared from virgin polylactide and polylactide mechanically reprocessed up to two cycles (PLA-V/R) was assessed in terms of thermo-oxidative stability, morphology, viscoelasticity and thermal kinetics for energetic valorization. PLA-V/R blends showed appropriate thermo-oxidative stability. The amorphous nature of polylactide was preserved after blending. The viscoelastic properties showed an increment of the mechanical blend effectiveness, which suggested the feasibility of using PLA-V/R blends… More >

    F. Freschi1, L. Giaccone1, M. Repetto1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.94, No.5, pp. 371-395, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2013.094.371

Abstract The study of induction heating systems from the electromagnetic point of view is still a challenging task for several reasons: the problem under analysis is strictly multiphysics because it involves the coupled electromagnetic and thermal phenomena; both coupled physics have nonlinear behavior; nonlinearities are of different kinds, both depending on the single phenomenon and on the coupling terms. The aim of the paper is to show that the cell method, based on the use of Tonti diagrams, can handle efficiently this kind of problems. The proposed magneto-thermal numerical procedure is firstly described in its theoretical aspects and then it is… More >
