    Abstract Numerical simulation are conducted to explore the characteristics of the axial inflow and related aerodynamic noise for a large-scale adjustable fan with the installation angle changing from −12° to 12°. In such a range the maximum static (gauge) pressure at the inlet changes from −2280 Pa to 382 Pa, and the minimum static pressure decreases from −3389 Pa to −8000 Pa.     Abstract Background: Anomalous aortic origin of a coronary artery (AAOCA) is the second leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes in the USA. Long-term outcome data for these patients are lacking to date. There is insufficient knowledge on the best approach to these patients and they are managed in a nonuniform manner.
    Methods: An online survey of 15 questions regarding management of AAOCA was sent out to 198 cardiac healthcare providers. The goal was to define gaps in knowledge to justify a dedicated scientific forum for discussion of AAOCA. Descriptive statistics were performed.

    Effects of persistent Fontan fenestration patency on cardiopulmonary exercise testing variables

    Abstract Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) aids in clinical assessment of patients with Fontan circulation. Effects of persistent fenestration on CPET variables have not been clearly defined. Associations between fenestration and CPET variables at anaerobic threshold (AT) and peak exercise were explored in the Pediatric Heart Network Fontan Cross-Sectional Study cohort. Fenestration patency was associated with a greater decrease in oxygen saturation from rest to peak exercise (fenestration -4.9 ± 3.8 v. nonfenestration -3 ± 3.5; P < .001).     Abstract Based on rectangular partition and bilinear interpolation, we construct an alternating-direction implicit (ADI) finite volume element method, which combined the merits of finite volume element method and alternating direction implicit method to solve a viscous wave equation with variable coefficients. This paper presents a general procedure to construct the alternating-direction implicit finite volume element method and gives computational schemes. Optimal error estimate in L2 norm is obtained for the schemes.     Abstract Wavelength-dependent mathematical modelling of the differential energy change of a photon has been performed inside a proposed hypothetical optical medium. The existence of this medium demands certain mathematical constraints, which have been derived in detail.     Abstract The eagle strategy algorithm is combined with particle swarm optimization in this paper. We determined the effects of soil and climate on contents of glycyrrhizic acid and liquiritin in various populations of Glycyrrhiza uralensis. Fifty individuals from 5 rangeland populations in arid and semi-arid regions of North China were collected and analyzed.     Composition and abundance of phytoplankton ın relation to physical and chemical variables in The Kars River, Turkey

    Abstract The phytoplankton of the Kars River was studied from May to October 2005 at five sampling stations. Sixty-six phytoplankton taxa were determined, consisting of Cyanophyta (9), Chlorophyta (25), Euglenophyta (18), Bacillariophyta (7), Cryptophyta (3), Dinophyta (1) and Chrysophyta (3). Total phytoplankton density increased from May to July and then decreased until October. The dominant phytoplankton group was Cyanophyta (36.5 - 64.4%) for most of the study period, followed by Bacillariophyta (20.4 – 38.7%) and Chlorophyta (20.9 – 28.9%).     Abstract We present a novel refinement approach in peridynamics (PD). The proposed approach takes advantage of the PD flexibility in choosing the shape of the horizon by introducing multiple domains (with no intersections) to the nodes of the refinement zone. We will show that no ghost forces are needed when changing the horizon sizes in both subdomains. The approach is applied to both bond-based and state-based peridynamics and verified for a simple wave propagation refinement problem illustrating the efficiency of the method. More >
