Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.14, pp. 1-12, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.14.28

Abstract The forthright aim of this correspondence is to examine the conduct of MHD, viscous dissipation and Joule heating on three dimensional nonNewtonian Carreau fluid flow over a linear stretching surface. Impact of non-linear Rosseland thermal radiation and homogenous/heterogenous reaction process have been also considered to examine the heat and mass transfer process during fluid flow. The velocity and thermal slip effect at the surface have also been scrutinized in detail. By utilizing a suitable transformation, the modelled partial differential equations (PDEs) are renovated into ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and furthermore solved with the help of the numerical procedure namely the… More >

Yu Fan, Jianhua Guo, Xihui Hu, Rui Wang*, Weiqiang Xu

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.9, pp. 2431-2447, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.027604

Abstract Drilling technologies based on oil-based drilling fluids and strong inhibitory saltwater fluids are affected by drawbacks such as downhole accidents where sticking and wellbore instabilities occur. Existing polyamine drilling fluids also exhibit problems such as easy decomposition and poor inhibition performances. In order to mitigate these issues, additives can be used, such as polyamine inhibitors and the synthesis of nanometer filtrate reducers. Tests conducted in the frame of this study with a polyamine drilling fluid and such additives show that this fluid has the same inhibitory, plugging, lubricating, and wellbore-stability performances as oil-based drilling fluids. However, it has long-term anti-wear… More > Graphic Abstract

Jiawei Zhang*, Qing Wang, Hongchun Huang, Haige Wang, Guodong Ji, Meng Cui, Hongyuan Zhang

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.9, pp. 2305-2314, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026304

Abstract Formation pressure is the key parameter for the analysis of wellbore safety. With increasing drilling depth, however, the behavior of this variable becomes increasingly complex. In this work, a 3D model of the formation pressure under uncertainty is presented. Moreover a relevant algorithm is elaborated. First, the logging data of regional key drilling wells are collected and a one-dimensional formation pressure profile along the well depth is determined. Then, a 3D model of regional formation pressure of the hierarchical group layer is defined by using the Kriging interpolation algorithm relying on a support vector machine (SVM) and the formation pressure… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.7, pp. 1701-1715, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.027703

Abstract Drilling costs of ultra-deep well is the significant part of development investment, and accurate prediction of drilling costs plays an important role in reasonable budgeting and overall control of development cost. In order to improve the prediction accuracy of ultra-deep well drilling costs, the item and the dominant factors of drilling costs in Tarim oilfield are analyzed. Then, those factors of drilling costs are separated into categorical variables and numerous variables. Finally, a BP neural network model with drilling costs as the output is established, and hyper-parameters (initial weights and bias) of the BP neural network is optimized by genetic… More >

Muhammad Ramzana,*, Zaib Un Nisab , Mudassar Nazara,c,†

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-9, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.12

Abstract A magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow of fractional Maxwell fluid past an exponentially accelerated vertical plate is considered. In addition, other factors such as heat generation and chemical reaction are used in the problem. The flow model is solved using Caputo fractional derivative. Initially, the governing equations are made non-dimensional and then solved by Laplace transform. The influence of different parameters like diffusion thermo, fractional parameter, Magnetic field, chemical reaction, Prandtl number and Maxwell parameter are discussed through numerous graphs. From figures, it is observed that fluid motion decreases with increasing values of Schmidt number and chemical reaction, whereas velocity field decreases… More >

Mechanical Analysis of a Multi-Test String in High-Temperature and High-Pressure Deep Wells

    Zubing Tang*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.8, pp. 2161-2170, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026608

Abstract The mechanical behavior of the test string in deep wells is generally relatively complex as a result of the high temperature and high pressure, severe dogleg and buckling effects, which in some circumstances can even lead to string failure. Traditional computational methods for the analysis of these behaviors are often inaccurate. For this reason, here a more accurate mechanical model of the test string is introduced by considering variables such as temperature, pressure, wellbore trajectory, and buckling, as well as combining them with the deformation and string constraint conditions brought in by changes in temperature and pressure during the tripping,… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.8, pp. 2053-2066, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026301

Abstract An experimental analysis has been conducted to study the process of fluid accumulation for different borehole trajectories. More specifically, five heel angles have been experimentally realized to simulate the borehole trajectory of the sloping section of the formation. The fluid-carrying capacity, pressure drop and fluid discharge volatility have been investigated for these conditions and, accordingly, the relationship between heel angle and wellbore pressure drop fluid-carrying capacity has been determined. The results show that while the reasonable roll angle can increase the pressure loss in the wellbore, it is beneficial to drainage. In terms of pressure loss and liquid-carrying capacity, when… More > Graphic Abstract

    Shuang Liang1,*, Fangyu Luo2, Huihui Yu3, Jian Gao1, Xiaolin Shu1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.8, pp. 2109-2118, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025342

Abstract In the present study, a large set of data related to well killing is considered. Through a complete exploration of the whole process leading to well-killing, various factors affecting such a process are screened and sorted, and a correlation model is built accordingly in order to introduce an auxiliary method for well-killing monitoring based on statistical information. The available data show obvious differences due to the diverse control parameters related to different well-killing methods. Nevertheless, it is shown that a precise three-fold relationship exists between the reservoir parameters, the elapsed time and the effectiveness of the considered well-killing strategy. The… More >
