    Zihan Qi*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.11, pp. 2547-2563, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.027045 - 31 October 2023

Abstract A novel operation control method for relay protection in flexible DC distribution networks with distributed power supply is proposed to address the issue of inaccurate fault location during relay protection, leading to poor performance. The method combines a fault-tolerant fault location method based on long-term and short-term memory networks to accurately locate the fault section. Then, an operation control method for relay protection based on adaptive weight and whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is used to construct an objective function considering the shortest relay protection action time and the smallest impulse current. The adaptive weight and More >

    Ying Zhang1, Xiaoqing Han2, Chao Zhang1, Ying Qu1, Yang Liu1, Gengwu Zhang2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.11, pp. 2585-2609, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.026816 - 31 October 2023

Abstract More and more uncertain factors in power systems and more and more complex operation modes of power systems put forward higher requirements for online transient stability assessment methods. The traditional model-driven methods have clear physical mechanisms and reliable evaluation results but the calculation process is time-consuming, while the data-driven methods have the strong fitting ability and fast calculation speed but the evaluation results lack interpretation. Therefore, it is a future development trend of transient stability assessment methods to combine these two kinds of methods. In this paper, the rate of change of the kinetic energy… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.10, pp. 2193-2209, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.043075 - 28 September 2023

Abstract Composite thermochemical energy storage (TCES) represents an exciting field of thermal energy storage which could address the issue of seasonal variance in renewable energy supply. However, there are open questions about their performance and the root cause of some observed phenomena. Some researchers have observed the breakdown of particles in their production phase, and in their use. This study seeks to investigate the underlying cause of this breakdown. SEM and EDX analysis have been conducted on MgCl2 impregnated 13X zeolite composites of differing diameters, as well as LiX zeolite. This was done in order to study… More > Graphic Abstract

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.10, pp. 2273-2285, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.030107 - 28 September 2023

Abstract Winding is one of the most important components in power transformers. Ensuring the health state of the winding is of great importance to the stable operation of the power system. To efficiently and accurately diagnose the disc space variation (DSV) fault degree of transformer winding, this paper presents a diagnostic method of winding fault based on the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm and the frequency response analysis (FRA) method. First, a laboratory winding model is used, and DSV faults with four different degrees are achieved by changing disc space of the discs in the winding. Then,… More > Graphic Abstract

    Yongxin Liu1, Huaiwei Cao2, Puyu Zhao2, Gang Yang1, Hua Yu1, Fuwei He3, Bo He2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.10, pp. 2417-2431, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.029596 - 28 September 2023

Abstract When using high-voltage transmission lines for energy transmission in loess hilly regions, local extreme wind fields such as turbulence and high-speed cyclones occur from time to time, which can cause many kinds of mechanical and electrical failures, seriously affecting the reliable and stable energy transmission of the power grid. The existing research focuses on the wind field simulation of ideal micro-terrain and actual terrain with mostly single micro-terrain characteristics. Model boundary constraints and the influence of constrained boundaries are the main problems that need to be solved to accurately model and simulate complex flow fields.… More >
