    Leaf angle and light interception in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.). Role of the petiole’s mechanical and anatomical properties

    Abstract The relationships between (1) leaf biomass and morphology (lamina area and petiole and lamina inclination), (2) petiole’s mechanical and structural properties, and (3) the vertical light gradient inside the crop’s canopy were studied in field grown sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) plants, maintained at optimum soil water and mineral levels. At flowering, incident photosynthetic active radiation (PAR) was measured at the top of the canopy and on individual leaves using a quantum sensor. The fraction of direct incident radiation which passed through the canopy reaching each individual leaf was then calculated.     Abstract Wide spreading of pepper blight on new plantations and on different production areas in Mexico, and the difficulty in controlling this disease, makes it compulsory to develop new control measures. It is expected that these measures provide new tools for controlling this disease in the context of integrated management strategies.     Abstract The illnesses that cause root and neck rot in golf courses constitute a limiting factor for grass development worldwide. This is mainly true when management guidelines are not conducted. Our research was conducted in the Golf Club “Mexico”, located in Mexico, D.F. Isolates were taken from plants that presented yellowing symptoms and root and neck rot.     Abstract HPLC analysis of capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicine concentrations obtained from fruits of Capsicum annuum var. glabrisculum, collected from four localities in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, was investigated.     Confocal laser scanning microscopy and immunohistochemistry of cerebellar Lugaro cells

    Abstract The present paper shows by means of confocal laser scanning microscopy the immunoreactivity of rat cerebellar Lugaro cells for calbindin, synapsin-I, PSD-95, GluR1, CaMKII alpha, and N-cadherin. Lugaro cells were easily characterized by their location beneath Purkinje cells. Calbindin revealed immunoreactivity in the cell body, and the axonal and dendritic processes. Synapsin-I labelled the presynaptic endings on Lugaro cells. Synapsin-I and PSD-95 immunoreactivity demonstrated the localization of presynaptic and postsynaptic endings surrounding cell soma, corresponding to afferent extrinsic and intrinsic cerebellar fi bers.
