    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.13, No.3, pp. 617-635, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2025.057812 - 20 March 2025

Abstract Bionanocomposite film is produced from renewable and biodegradable natural resources. Although elephant foot yam (EFY) starch (Amorphophallus paeoniifolius) is a promising polymer for bionanocomposite film, the native hydrophilic properties influence the overall performance characteristics. Incorporating virgin coconut oil (VCO) and monoglyceride as hydrophobic components can improve mechanical properties and reduce permeability while increasing the hydrophobicity of the composite. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of adding VCO and monoglyceride on EFY starch-nanocrystalline film at 3 and 5 wt% concentrations. Experimental tests were conducted to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties, water vapor transmission rate… More > Graphic Abstract

Effects of Spin Excitation on the Dislocation Dynamics in Body-Centered Cubic Iron

    Hideki Mori1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.32, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012935

Abstract To design the mechanical strength of iron, it is very important to clarify the detail of dislocation dynamics in Body-Centered Cubic (BCC) Iron. The dislocation core structures are typically confined to the nanometer scale.
This implies that the resistance force from discrete atomic columns has a direct bearing on dislocation mobility.
Recently, we've developed a high-fidelity inter-atomic potential leveraging neural networks built upon density functional theory (DFT) data. By conducting dislocation dynamics simulations, we've addressed shortcomings inherent in classical inter-atomic potential approaches. Nonetheless, a significant challenge persists: a three- to four-fold deviation exists between More >

    Jiaqin Xu1, Shuhei Shinzato1, Shihao Zhang1, Fan-Shun Meng1, Shigenobu Ogata1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011814

Abstract Hydrogen has the potential to be the clean energy solution to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs). However, from preparation to utilization, the hydrogen embrittlement can not be neglected. Hydrogen embrittlement occurs as a result of hydrogen affecting dislocations motion and cracks opening. Dislocation motion in hydrogen environment has not been clarified although several mechanisms have been proposed, including the hydrogen enhanced decohesion (HEDE), the hydrogen enhanced macroscopic ductility (HEMP), the hydrogen enhanced local plastic model (HELP), etc. It is essential to comprehend the underlying hydrogen-dislocation interactions that cause embrittlement. Also, dynamics of dislocation motion… More >
