Quick Construction of Femoral Model Using Surface Feature Parameterization

Xiaozhong Chen∗,†, Kunjin He, Zhengming Chen∗,‡, Wei Xiang§

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.12, No.2, pp. 123-146, 2015, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2015.012.123

Abstract To facilitate the modifying of femoral surface model, by dividing the femoral mesh into surface feature units bearing medical significance based on surface feature technology, a new approach of constructing femoral models using surface feature technology is proposed. Firstly, considering of femoral anatomy, the femoral triangle mesh model generated from the averaged point-clouds is divided into several specific regions, which are called feature regions; Secondly, feature parameters are defined and the constraints among them are set up, and feature surfaces are created by skinning the contours; Finally, the adjacent feature surfaces are connected by transition surfaces, and the parametric CAD… More >

LRV: A Tool for Academic Text Visualization to Support the Literature Review Process

    Tahani Almutairi1,*, Maha Al-yahya2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.3, pp. 741-751, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.06239

Abstract Text visualization is concerned with the representation of text in a graphical form to facilitate comprehension of large textual data. Its aim is to improve the ability to understand and utilize the wealth of text-based information available. An essential task in any scientific research is the study and review of previous works in the specified domain, a process that is referred to as the literature survey process. This process involves the identification of prior work and evaluating its relevance to the research question. With the enormous number of published studies available online in digital form, this becomes a cumbersome task… More >

Recent Evolution of the Simulation Tools for Computer Aided Design of Electron-optical Systems for Powerful Gyrotrons

    S. Sabchevski1, I. Zhelyazkov2, M. Thumm3, S. Illy4, B. Piosczyk5, T.-M. Tran6,7, J. Gr. Pagonakis8

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.20, No.3, pp. 203-220, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2007.020.203

Abstract Computer aided design of powerful gyrotrons for electron cyclotron resonance heating and current drive of fusion plasmas requires adequate physical models and efficient software packages for analysis, comparison and optimization of their electron-optical systems through numerical experiments. In this paper, we present and discuss the current status of the simulation tools available to the researchers involved in the development of multi-megawatt gyrotrons for the ITER project, review some of their recent upgrades and formulate directions for further modifications and improvements. Illustrative examples used represent results from recent numerical investigations of real constructions. Some physical problems that are outside of the… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.1, No.1, pp. 45-64, 2000, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2000.001.045

Abstract Development of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) products is currently hampered by the need for design aids, which can assist in integration of all domains of the design. The cross-disciplinary character of microsystems requires a top-down approach to system design which, in turn, requires designers from many areas to work together in order to understand the effects of one sub-system on another. This paper describes current research on a methodology and tool-set which directly support such an integrated design process. More >

Experimental and Theoretical Analysis of a Novel Cascade Solar Desalination Still

    M. Bouzaid1,*, O. Ansari1, M. Taha-Janan1, M. Oubrek1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.14, No.3, pp. 177-200, 2018, DOI: 10.3970/fdmp.2018.00330

Abstract Ocean water is characterized by very high salinity, which generally makes it unsuitable for human or animal's needs. The production of potable water from the ocean, therefore, requires a desalination process, which is often regarded as the crucial limitation to overcome towards widespread use of ocean water as the primary source of water for human consumption. In this study, we analyze both experimentally and theoretically the thermal performances and productivity of a solar still based on a novel form of absorber plate. The related system of energy equations consists of five heat exchange relationships in the form of first differential… More >

Mathematical Analysis of a New Design for Cascade Solar Still

    M. Bouzaid1, M. Oubrek, O. Ansari, A. Sabri, M. Taha-Janan

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 15-32, 2016, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2016.012.015

Abstract Fresh water available on earth is very scared. Yet the demand of fresh water is incessantly increasing, due to population growth and rapid industrialization. According to the United Nations, in 2025, 63% of the world’s population will be living in scarce water areas. The provision of freshwater is becoming a gradually more important issue in many areas of the world. Oceans are the only available source for large amount of water. Ocean water presents high salinity, so there is a need to desalinate ocean water for everyday consumption. Solar stills are widely used in solar desalination for being very simple… More >

Use of Rotating Magnetic Field for Selenium Impurity Transport in Zone Refining of Tellurium and Cadmium

    J. Roszmann1, Y.C. Liu1, S. Dost1,2, B. Lent1, S. Grenier3, N. Audet3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.5, No.3, pp. 231-244, 2009, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2009.005.231

Abstract The article presents the results of a combined numerical and experimental study of the effect of rotating magnetic field on impurity transport in a zone refining system. An impurity (selenium) with a segregation coefficient close to unity was targeted. The three-zone system previously developed was used for experiments and numerical simulations. The numerical simulations were performed for tellurium (Te) and cadmium (Cd) molten zones, but the experiments could only be carried out for the Te-system. More >

A Molecular Dynamics Study of Irradiation Induced Cascades in Iron Containing Hydrogen

    E. Hayward1, C. Deo1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.16, No.2, pp. 101-116, 2010, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2010.016.101

Abstract Damage cascades representative of those that would be induced by neutron irradiation have been simulated in systems of pure iron and iron containing 0.01 at.% hydrogen. Results from molecular dynamics simulations using three different embedded-atom method (EAM) type potentials are compared for primary knock-on atom energies of 5, 10, and 20 keV to assess the effect of hydrogen on the primary damage state. We examine the influence of hydrogen on the primary damage state due to a single radiation cascade. These results can serve as an atomistic database for methods and simulations for long time scale evolution of radiation damage. More >
