THIRUMALAISAMY SURYAPRABHAA, CHUNGHYUN CHOIA, ZUBAIR AHMED CHANDIOB, LAWRENCE ROBERT MSALILWAB, TAEGWANG YUNC,*, JUN YOUNG CHEONGB,*, BYUNGIL HWANGA,*

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.40, No.3-4, pp. 191-204, 2023, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2023.40.3-4.5

Abstract Magnetorheological fluids (MRFs) is a smart fluid system that exhibits swift and reversible alterations in their rheological characteristics when exposed to an external magnetic field. MRFs are used for applications in various areas, including automotive systems, robotics, aerospace, and civil engineering. The performance of MRFs depends on the behavior of the dispersed magnetic particles, necessitating thoughtful consideration of particle traits to optimize fluid performance. Carbonyl Iron Powders (CIPs), high purity iron (>98%) reduced from penta carbonyl iron, are widely employed in MRFs due to their exceptional magnetic characteristics. Nevertheless, the innate surfaces of CIPs tend to conglomerate, leading to compromises… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.3, pp. 487-502, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.048246

Abstract The contents of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) in soil-microorganisms-plant significantly affect tea quality by altering the main quality components of tea, such as tea polyphenols, amino acids, and caffeine. However, few studies have quantified the effects of these factors on the main quality components of tea. The study aimed to explore the interactions of C, N, and P in soil-microorganisms-plants and the effects of these factors on the main quality components of tea by using the path analysis method. The results indicated that (1) The contents of C, N, and P in soil, microorganisms, and tea plants… More >

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.40, No.1-2, pp. 93-103, 2023, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2023.40.1-2.8

Abstract Polymer composites are increasing in demand in energy storage applications including in the electronic as well as electrical industries due to the ease of processing of these materials with associated advantages like light weight, corrosion resistance, and high mechanical strength. In this investigation, efforts are made to enhance the charging and discharging properties of epoxy/carbon fabric composite by the addition of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) into the epoxy/ carbon matrix. The performance of the composites with graphene platelets of 0.5 to 5 wt. % in epoxy were characterized and 1wt.% percolation threshold was observed poor performance in gravimetric charge and discharge… More >

Preparation and Analysis of Carbon Fiber-Silicon Carbide Thermally Conductive Asphalt Concrete

Zhiyong Yang, Enjie Hu, Lei Xi, Zhi Chen*, Feng Xiong, Chuanhai Zhan

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 705-723, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.044030

Abstract An experimental investigation into the thermal conductivity of CF-SiC two-phase composite asphalt concrete is presented. The main objective of this study was to verify the possibility of using SiC powder instead of mineral powder as the thermal conductive filler to prepare a new type of asphalt concrete and improve the efficiency of electrothermal snow and ice melting systems accordingly. The thermal conductivity of asphalt concrete prepared with different thermally conductive fillers was tested by a transient plane source method, and the related performances were measured. Then the temperature rise rate and surface temperature were studied through field heating tests. Finally,… More >

Abstract Cardiotocography measures the fetal heart rate in the fetus during pregnancy to ensure physical health because cardiotocography gives data about fetal heart rate and uterine shrinkages which is very beneficial to detect whether the fetus is normal or suspect or pathologic. Various cardiotocography measures infer wrongly and give wrong predictions because of human error. The traditional way of reading the cardiotocography measures is the time taken and belongs to numerous human errors as well. Fetal condition is very important to measure at numerous stages and give proper medications to the fetus for its well-being. In the current period Machine learning… More >

Abstract Thyroid disorders represent a significant global health challenge with hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism as two common conditions arising from dysfunction in the thyroid gland. Accurate and timely diagnosis of these disorders is crucial for effective treatment and patient care. This research introduces a comprehensive approach to improve the accuracy of thyroid disorder diagnosis through the integration of ensemble stacking and advanced feature selection techniques. Sequential forward feature selection, sequential backward feature elimination, and bidirectional feature elimination are investigated in this study. In ensemble learning, random forest, adaptive boosting, and bagging classifiers are employed. The effectiveness of these techniques is evaluated using… More >

Hongsheng Su, Lixia Dong*, Xiaoying Yu, Kai Liu

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.4, pp. 973-986, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.043497

Abstract Time based maintenance (TBM) and condition based maintenance (CBM) are widely applied in many large wind farms to optimize the maintenance issues of wind turbine gearboxes, however, these maintenance strategies do not take into account environmental benefits during full life cycle such as carbon emissions issues. Hence, this article proposes a carbon emissions computing model for preventive maintenance activities of wind turbine gearboxes to solve the issue. Based on the change of the gearbox state during operation and the influence of external random factors on the gearbox state, a stochastic differential equation model (SDE) and corresponding carbon emission model are… More > Graphic Abstract

    R. J. Johnson, R. Pitchumani

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.1, No.1, pp. 1-9, 2010, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v1.1.3007

Abstract Much research is currently being performed with carbon nanotube additives to neat resin systems to enhance properties such as thermal and electrical conductivity, strength, modulus and damping. Fabrication of parts based on carbon nanotube filled resin systems requires information on their cure kinetics and rheology, which has been relatively less studied so far. This work presents an extensive experimental study that systematically characterizes the cure kinetics and viscosity as a function of degree of cure and temperature of EPON 815C/EPICURE 3274 epoxy resin system laden with carbon nanotubes. Studies are conducted to determine the effects of the carbon nanotube loading… More >
