    Abstract With the development of adaptive optics and post restore processing techniques, large aperture ground-based telescopes can obtain high-resolution images (HRIs) of targets.     Abstract Microscopic traffic simulations are useful for solving various traffic- related problems, e.g. traffic jams and accidents, local and global environmental and energy problems, maintaining mobility in aging societies, and evacuation plan- ning for natural as well as man-made disasters.     Abstract Extreme learning machine (ELM) has demonstrated great potential in machine learning and data mining fields owing to its simplicity, rapidity and good generalization performance. In this work, a general framework for ELM regression is first investigated based on least absolute deviation (LAD) estimation (called LADELM), and then we develop two regularized LADELM formulations with the l2-norm and l1-norm regularization, respectively.     Abstract The detection of macroscopic irregularities is an essential procedure during the production of gears, and it helps to guarantee the quality of electromechanical transmission equipment. The working principles of template matching and the image nonequivalence operation are described in detail in this paper.     Abstract A micromechanical model is proposed here for estimating the effective stiffness of a pair of parallel microscopically damaged interfaces in a trimaterial under inplane elastostatic deformations. The trimaterial is made of an orthotropic thin layer sandwiched between two orthotropic half-spaces. The microscopically damaged interfaces are modeled using periodically distributed interfacial micro-cracks.     Abstract Focal damage such as cartilaginous defects, erosions, micro-fractures, Schmorl nodes and thinning in the human vertebral endplate are thought to contribute to intervertebral disc degeneration by compromising the nutrition transport between the vertebral bone marrow and the disc nucleus pulposus.     Abstract Analytical solutions are derived for the macroscopic behaviors of a Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) thick-walled cylinder subjected to internal pressure and radial temperature gradient. The Tresca transformation criterion and linear hardening are used. Equations are given for the radial and circumferential stresses, transformation strains and martensite volume fractions at both the elastic step and the transformation step.     Abstract In order to study failure perspective of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy welded joint, fracture behavior of the heat affected zone is researched. Microhardness, tensile test and microstructure are used to study the mechanical properties of the titanium alloy laser welded joint.     Abstract In this study, the contact and interaction between a tunnel lining support and a damage-susceptible viscoplastic medium is investigated. First, back-analysis of the time-dependent behaviour of a drift excavated across a carboniferous rock mass which exhibited large delayed displacements was undertaken.
