    Muhammad Abdullah1,*, Saad Ahmad Khan1, Mamdouh Alenez2, Khaled Almustafa3, Waheed Iqbal1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 13-25, 2020, DOI:10.31209/2018.100000047

Abstract An efficient placement of virtual machines (VMs) in a cloud datacenter is important to maximize the utilization of infrastructure. Most of the existing work maximises the number of VMs to place on a minimum number of physical machines (PMs) to reduce energy consumption. Recently, big data applications become popular which are mostly hosted on cloud datacenters. Big data applications are deployed on multiple VMs and considered data and communication intensive applications. These applications can consume most of the datacenter bandwidth if VMs do not place close to each other. In this paper, we investigate the use of different VM placement… More >

    Geetha N., Sankar A.

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.4, pp. 711-719, 2018, DOI:10.1080/10798587.2017.1309003

Abstract The routing protocol for an ad hoc network should be efficient in utilizing the available resources to prolong the network lifetime. A Multi Criterion Fuzzy based Energy Efficient Routing Protocol (MCFEER) for Ad hoc Networks selects the path on constraints like bandwidth, battery life, hop count and buffer occupancy. In the route discovery phase, fuzzy system is applied for optimal route selection by destination node leading to successful data transmission. Multiple stable paths are preserved in route cache for usage during the route maintenance phase. The results are competitive when compared with Power aware Energy Efficient Routing (PEER) protocol using… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 359-366, 2019, DOI:10.31209/2019.100000097

Abstract It will face a lot of problems when using existing image-processing and 3D scanning methods to do the similarity analysis of the line traces, therefore, an effective comparison algorithm is put forward for the purpose of making effective trace analysis and infer the criminal tools. The proposed algorithm applies wavelet decomposition to the line trace 1-D detection signals to partially reduce background noises. After that, the sequence comparison strategy based on wavelet domain DTW is employed to do trace feature similarity matching. Finally, using linear regression machine learning algorithm based on gradient descent method to do constant iteration. The experiment… More >

    Tianle Zhang1, Lihua Yin1, Xiang Cui1, *, Abhishek Behl2, Fuqiang Dong3, Ziheng Cheng4, Kuo Ma4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.65, No.1, pp. 835-845, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.06050

Abstract In Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), because battery and energy supply are constraints, sleep scheduling is always needed to save energy while maintaining connectivity for packet delivery. Traditional schemes have to ensure high duty cycling to ensure enough percentage of active nodes and then derogate the energy efficiency. This paper proposes an RFID based non-preemptive random sleep scheduling scheme with stable low duty cycle. It employs delay tolerant network routing protocol to tackle the frequent disconnections. A low-power RFID based non-preemptive wakeup signal is used to confirm the availability of next-hop before sending packet. It eliminates energy consumption of repeated retransmission… More >

    Sanghyo Lee1, Yonghan Ahn2, Ha Young Kim3, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.65, No.1, pp. 1-17, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.011104

Abstract In this study, we examined the efficacy of a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) in recognizing concrete surface images and predicting the compressive strength of concrete. A digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera and microscope were simultaneously used to obtain concrete surface images used as the input data for the DCNN. Thereafter, training, validation, and testing of the DCNNs were performed based on the DSLR camera and microscope image data. Results of the analysis indicated that the DCNN employing DSLR image data achieved a relatively higher accuracy. The accuracy of the DSLR-derived image data was attributed to the relatively wider range… More >

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.14, No.4, pp. 651-656, 2019, DOI:10.1111/chd.12765

Abstract Objective: Various options exist for right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) recon‐ struction in congenital heart disease. The Freestyle porcine aortic root may be used but its longevity is not well defined.
Design: We performed a retrospective review of all non‐Ross RVOT reconstructions using the Freestyle root in our institution. Survival and reintervention, either by sur‐ gery, transcatheter valve implantation, balloon valvuloplasty, or bare metal stent placement, were recorded. Factors associated with reintervention were assessed using Cox regression.
Results: Between January 2002 and December 2015, there were 182 patients identi‐ fied. Sixteen patients were lost to follow‐up and 3 patients died,… More >

Numerical Investigations on the Impact of Turbulent Prandtl Number and Schmidt Number on Supersonic Combustion

    Yongkang Zheng1,2,*, Chao Yan1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.3, pp. 637-650, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.09694

Abstract The flow field inside the combustor of a scramjet is highly complicated and the related turbulent Prandtl and Schmidt numbers have a significant impact on the effective numerical prediction of such dynamics. As in many cases researchers set these parameters on the basis of purely empirical laws, assessing their impact (via parametric numerical simulations) is a subject of great importance. In the present work, in particular, two test cases with different characteristics are selected for further evaluation of the role played by these non-dimensional numbers: Burrows-Kurkov case and DLR case. The numerical results indicate that these parameters influence ignition location.… More >

Echocardiography vs cardiac magnetic resonance imaging assessment of the systemic right ventricle for patients with d-transposition of the great arteries status post atrial switch

    Margaret M. Samyn1,2, Ke Yan1, Conor Masterson3, Benjamin H. Goot1,2, David Saudek1,2, Julie Lavoie2, Aaron Kinney2, Mary Krolikowski1, Kan Hor4,5, Scott Cohen1,2

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.14, No.6, pp. 1138-1148, 2019, DOI:10.1111/chd.12861

Abstract Objective: Patients with Dextro-transposition of the great arteries status post atrial switch (dTGA s/p atrial switch) are “at-risk” for systemic right ventricular (RV) dysfunction. Due to complex RV geometry, echocardiography (Echo) does not allow accurate determination of ejection fraction (EF), but cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) allows quantitative right ventricular assessment. Measures of ventricular deformation may be precursors to global ventricular dysfunction. The primary aim of this study was to characterize imaging and clinical findings for adult patients with dTGA s/p atrial switch.
Design: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients with dTGA s/p atrial switch operation (February 1966… More >
