Abstract Boundary layer flows and melting heat transfer of a Prandtl fluid over a stretching surface in the presence of fluid particle suspensions has been investigated. The converted set of boundary layer equations are solved numerically by RKF-45 method. Obtained numerical results for flow and heat transfer characteristics are deliberated for various physical parameters. Furthermore, the skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number are also presented in Tabs. 2 and 3. It is found that the heat transfer rates are advanced in occurrence of nonlinear radiation compered to linear radiation. Also, it is noticed that velocity and temperature profile increases by increasing… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.62, No.3, pp. 1161-1185, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.05247

Abstract SaaS software that provides services through cloud platform has been more widely used nowadays. However, when SaaS software is running, it will suffer from performance fault due to factors such as the software structural design or complex environments. It is a major challenge that how to diagnose software quickly and accurately when the performance fault occurs. For this challenge, we propose a novel performance fault diagnosis method for SaaS software based on GBDT (Gradient Boosting Decision Tree) algorithm. In particular, we leverage the monitoring mean to obtain the performance log and warning log when the SaaS software system runs, and… More >

    Luján-Rangel R1, E Olivares-Sáenz2, RE Vázquez-Alvarado2, L Garza-Ocañas1, O Torres-Alanís1(†), HJ Garza-Ulloa1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.81, pp. 247-253, 2012, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2012.81.247

Abstract Karwinskia parvifolia Rose synthesizes a toxin (PA1), which might be used to treat some types of tumors. Variability from 16 plants of K. parvifolia and the effect of nitrogen was evaluated on its dry fruit yield. The experiment was carried out using a crossover design, two treatment sequences and two production cycles. Collected data were: dry fruit yield (DFY), dry fruit weight (DFW) and dry endocarp weight (DWE) per plant. During Cycle 1, the group of plants that received additional nitrogen (CN) produced higher yields than the group that received no additional nitrogen (SN). Ratios of CN/SN were 1.68 (DFY),… More >

Implementation of Active Infrared NDT Techniques Using Long Square Heating Pulses

    G. Pitarresi1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.8, No.2, pp. 149-176, 2012, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2012.008.149

Abstract The present work describes the implementation of active IR Thermography techniques for the NDT of thick polymer and glass-fibre reinforced polymer (GRP) composite panels. A low cost Thermal NDT set-up is proposed, comprising a single-detector IR camera with low thermal resolution and low frame rate, and common low-power halogen lamps as external heat source devices. The use of halogen lamps in particular requires several seconds of switch-on time in order to deliver meaningful and effective heat quantities. The influence of such long heat deposition intervals is investigated on the possibility to implement Transient Thermography and Lock-In Thermography techniques. Regarding the… More >

    Sangoju Bhaskar1, Ravindra Gettu2, B.H. Bharatkumar1, M. Neelamegam1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.7, No.4, pp. 231-252, 2011, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2011.007.231

Abstract The durability of reinforced concrete (RC) exposed to severe environments depends largely on its ability to resist the penetration of aggressive compounds. This paper deals with the corrosion of reinforcement bars (rebars) in cracked concrete exposed to chlorides. A simple U-shaped specimen was used in the study, with a high yield strength deformed bar of 12 mm diameter placed at with 20 mm clear cover. Concrete specimens with three water to cement ratios (w/c) and pre-cracks exposed to chlorides were studied for quality assessment and quantifying the corrosion damage in terms of gravimetric weight loss. Water absorption and rapid chloride… More >

A Strain-Based Constitutive Model for Concrete under Tension in Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of RC Flexural Members

    Smitha Gopinath1, J. Rajasankar1,2, Nagesh R. Iyer1, T. S. Krishnamoorthy1, B.H.Bharatkumar1, N. Lakshmanan1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.5, No.4, pp. 311-336, 2009, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2009.005.311

Abstract In this paper, a two-phase strain-based constitutive model is proposed for concrete under tension. First phase deals with modelling uncracked concrete while the behaviour of concrete in cracked condition is modelled in second phase with appropriate theoretical support. A bilinear tension softening curve of concrete defined in crack width-stress space is taken as the basis to propose the model. Smeared representation of reinforcement and cracks along with multi-layered geometry definition of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is used to implement the model. Through this, it is shown that change in the orientation of tensile cracks with increasing load on the structure… More >

Applications of DTALE: Damage Tolerance Analysis and Life Enhancement [3-D Non-plannar Fatigue Crack Growth]

    S. N. Atluri1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.1, No.1, pp. 1-20, 2005, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2005.001.001

Abstract The solution of three-dimensional cracks (arbitrary surfaces of discontinuity) in solids and structures is considered. The BEM, developed based on the symmetric Galerkin BIEs, is used for obtaining the fracture solutions at the arbitrary crack-front. The finite element method is used to model the uncracked global (built-up) structure for obtaining the stresses in an otherwise uncracked body. The solution for the cracked structural component is obtained in an iteration procedure, which alternates between FEM solution for the uncracked body, and the SGBEM solution for the crack in the local finite-sized subdomain. In addition, some crack growth models are used to… More >

    Quang Dang1,1, Hans Gregersen2,2, Birgitte Duch2,2, Ghassan S. Kassab1,1

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.2, No.2, pp. 53-62, 2005, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2005.002.053

Abstract Biliary duct obstruction is an important clinical condition that affects millions of people worldwide. We have previously shown that the common bile duct (CBD) undergoes significant growth and remodelling post obstruction. The mechanical stress-strain relation is expected to change due to growth and remodeling in response to obstruction and hence pressure-overload. The objective of the present study was to characterize the material properties of the CBD of the sham group and at 3 hours, 12 hours, 2 days, 8 days and 32 days (n=5 in each group) after obstruction. The Fung's exponential strain energy function was used to relate stress… More >

Abstract In order to solve the problem of patient information security protection in medical images, whilst also taking into consideration the unchangeable particularity of medical images to the lesion area and the need for medical images themselves to be protected, a novel robust watermarking algorithm for encrypted medical images based on dual-tree complex wavelet transform and discrete cosine transform (DTCWT-DCT) and chaotic map is proposed in this paper. First, DTCWT-DCT transformation was performed on medical images, and dot product was per-formed in relation to the transformation matrix and logistic map. Inverse transformation was undertaken to obtain encrypted medical images. Then, in… More >

    Zhengzheng Cao1, Yuejin Zhou1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.2, pp. 77-90, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.077

Abstract Reasonable width design of narrow coal pillar is the key for ensuring stability of surrounding rock in the roadway driving along next goaf. Based on movement characteristics of overlying strata in gob-side entry, the paper establishes the mechanical model of surrounding rock structure for roadway driving along next goaf, and analyzes the interaction mechanism between key blocks and coal pillar. Besides, in allusion to the mechanical equilibrium of key block B in basic roof, the stability coefficients K1 and K2 of key block B and sensitive coefficient of influencing factor are introduced. When the stability coefficient K1 is larger than… More >
