    Qianqian Zhang1, Yingmei Li1,*, Jianjun Zhan2,*, Shan Chen1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.81, No.1, pp. 1251-1273, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.053892 - 15 October 2024

Abstract This research focuses on improving the Harris’ Hawks Optimization algorithm (HHO) by tackling several of its shortcomings, including insufficient population diversity, an imbalance in exploration vs. exploitation, and a lack of thorough exploitation depth. To tackle these shortcomings, it proposes enhancements from three distinct perspectives: an initialization technique for populations grounded in opposition-based learning, a strategy for updating escape energy factors to improve the equilibrium between exploitation and exploration, and a comprehensive exploitation approach that utilizes variable neighborhood search along with mutation operators. The effectiveness of the Improved Harris Hawks Optimization algorithm (IHHO) is assessed by… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012173

Abstract In order to regulate the multi-scale structure of Ti-6Al-4V formed by the SLM (selective laser melting) process, this study uses the method of combining numerical simulations with experiments to investigate the effects of SLM process parameters on the phase composition, micro- and meso-structures, and their distribution of Ti-6Al-4V. The study shows that the SLM-formed Ti-6Al-4V is mainly composed of α/α' phases. Horizontally, the specimens at a 0° phase angle mainly show a striped pattern, while the specimens at 67° and 90° phase angles will show a tessellated pattern. Vertically, the specimens at 0°, 67°, and More >

Abstract Recognizing the variation of genetic resources is the first step in selection. One of the most important variations in grain crops is the uniformity of seed grain weight, which can be converted into seed size. However, it has been challenging since it needs high labor costs and time to measure it on a large scale. The current study used an image analysis technique to measure the grain seed area of about 100 seeds per accession with 64 germplasm of Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) to study variation among and within them. To understand the nature of variation, More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.10, pp. 1475-1487, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.053227 - 02 October 2024

Abstract Background: Alveolar macrophage pyroptosis exacerbates inflammatory lung diseases, and tanshinone IIA is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Thus, understanding how tanshinone IIA affects alveolar macrophage pyroptosis is essential. Methods: NR8383 cells were exposed to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP). We assessed cell viability, pyroptosis, and the expression of triggering receptors expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2), p-β-catenin, β-catenin, and pyroptosis-related factors. We also examined the interaction between tanshinone IIA and TREM2. Results: Co-stimulation with LPS and ATP significantly reduced NR8383 cell viability, increased pyroptosis, and upregulated pyroptosis-associated factors. Treatment with tanshinone IIA mitigated these effects.… More >

Abstract Artificial rabbits optimization (ARO) is a recently proposed biology-based optimization algorithm inspired by the detour foraging and random hiding behavior of rabbits in nature. However, for solving optimization problems, the ARO algorithm shows slow convergence speed and can fall into local minima. To overcome these drawbacks, this paper proposes chaotic opposition-based learning ARO (COARO), an improved version of the ARO algorithm that incorporates opposition-based learning (OBL) and chaotic local search (CLS) techniques. By adding OBL to ARO, the convergence speed of the algorithm increases and it explores the search space better. Chaotic maps in CLS… More > Graphic Abstract
