    Ishaani Priyadarshini*, Chase Cotton

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 781-800, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.019284

    Abstract

The increasing capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI), has led researchers and visionaries to think in the direction of machines outperforming humans by gaining intelligence equal to or greater than humans, which may not always have a positive impact on the society. AI gone rogue, and Technological Singularity are major concerns in academia as well as the industry. It is necessary to identify the limitations of machines and analyze their incompetence, which could draw a line between human and machine intelligence. Internet memes are an amalgam of pictures, videos, underlying messages, ideas, sentiments, humor, and experiences, hence the way an internet… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.1, pp. 149-164, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.017003

Abstract Polylactide (PLA)/poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) blend nanocomposites including 3 wt% of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were prepared by melt compounding method in a twin-screw extruder and an internal mixer. Blend nanocomposites were formulated by diluting three different masterbatches prepared by solution casting method that contained 7 wt% of CNC. These masterbatches were: (m1) PLA/PBAT/CNC masterbatch; (m2) PLA/CNC masterbatch; and (m3) PBAT/CNC masterbatch. These were to explore how different preparation methods affect the dispersion and localization of CNC and hence the properties of PLA/PBAT/CNC blend nanocomposites. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to study the structural changes of the blends. Rheological properties… More >

Improvement in the Performance of the Polylactic Acid Composites by Using Deep Eutectic Solvent Treated Pulp Fiber

Lei Tan, Liangxian Liu, Chaodong Liu, Weihong Wang*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.11, pp. 1897-1911, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.016418

Abstract As the most favorable alternative to petroleum-based polymers, polylactic acid (PLA) which is the most promising degradable polymer has attracted increasing attention. However, the addition of cellulose to improve its strength often results in a reduction in its toughness. In this work, microscale cellulose is first prepared from pulp fibers by using a deep eutectic solvent, and then is used as the reinforcement of PLA. A microcrystalline cellulose (MCC)/PLA sheet with uniform texture is obtained by the solution mixing, melt blending, hot-pressing and cold-pressing process. The effects of MCC on the crystallization, thermal stability and mechanical properties of the PLA… More >

Soil Fungal Community Structure Changes in Response to Different Long-Term Fertilization Treatments in a Greenhouse Tomato Monocropping System

Xiaomei Zhang, Junliang Li, Bin Liang*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.4, pp. 1233-1246, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.014962

Abstract Greenhouse vegetable cultivation (GVC) is an example of intensive agriculture aiming to increase crop yields by extending cultivation seasons and intensifying agricultural input. Compared with cropland, studies on the effects of farming management regimes on soil microorganisms of the GVC system are rare, and our knowledge is limited. In the present study, we assessed the impacts of different long-term fertilization regimes on soil fungal community structure changes in a greenhouse that has been applied in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) cultivation for 11 consecutive years. Results showed that, when taking the non-fertilizer treatment of CK as a benchmark, both treatments of… More >

    Mahmoud Badry1,*, Mohammed Hassanin1,2, Asghar Chandio2,3, Nour Moustafa2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.2, pp. 1847-1858, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015489

Abstract Since the worldwide spread of internet-connected devices and rapid advances made in Internet of Things (IoT) systems, much research has been done in using machine learning methods to recognize IoT sensors data. This is particularly the case for optical character recognition of handwritten scripts. Recognizing text in images has several useful applications, including content-based image retrieval, searching and document archiving. The Arabic language is one of the mostly used tongues in the world. However, Arabic text recognition in imagery is still very much in the nascent stage, especially handwritten text. This is mainly due to the language complexities, different writing… More >

Classifications des tumeurs neuroendocrines gastroentéropancréatiques : ce qui change*
Classifications of gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: what has changed ?

    J.-Y. Scoazec

    Oncologie, Vol.21, No.2, pp. 119-124, 2019, DOI:10.3166/onco-2019-0052

Abstract The WHO classification of the tumors of endocrine organs, published in July 2017 and that of digestive tumors, released in July 2019, have introduced significant changes in the classification of gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), which was unchanged since 2010. The main change is a new category of well-differentiated neoplasms, NET G3, in addition to the two previous categories NET G1 and NET G2. The other changes are: 1) the cut-off in Ki-67 index between NET G1 and G2, now set at 3%, 2) the term used for mixed tumors: MiNEN (mixed neuroendocrine-non neuroendocrine neoplasm) instead of MANEC (mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma).… More >

    Epidemiology of Neuroendrocine Intestinal Tumours

    C. Lepage

    Oncologie, Vol.21, No.2, pp. 113-117, 2019, DOI:10.3166/onco-2019-0051

Abstract Little is known about the epidemiology of digestive neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). NETs remain a rare cancer, representing 1% of all digestive cancers. In France, incidence rates are estimated to around 1.1/100,000 inhabitants in males and 0.9/100,000 in females. The incidence rates got increased over time, with probably more than 1,000 new cases per year in France. Because of their relatively good prognosis, NETs are the second more prevalent digestive cancer after colorectal cancer. Most digestive NETs are well-differentiated (WDNETs); poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (PDNEC) account for less than 20% of the cases in most of the series. Among bowel-NETs, the… More >

Quand et avec quelles conséquences opérer une tumeur neuroendocrine du pancréas ou du grêle ?*
When to Operate and What Are the Consequences of a Surgical Resection of a Neuroendrocine Tumour in the Pancreas or Small Bowel

    E. Hain, J. Gharios, R. Sindayigaya, S. Gaujoux

    Oncologie, Vol.21, No.2, pp. 91-96, 2019, DOI:10.3166/onco-2019-0048

Abstract Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are rare and can occur in all parts of the digestive tract. They can be functional or non-functional. All patients presenting NET should be discussed for the surgical management within the RENATEN tumor board. For sporadic pancreatic NET, surgery is recommended for non-functional lesion >2 cm in size and/or associated with ductal dilatation. For non-aggressive tumor, parenchyma-sparing surgery should be preferred to avoid exocrine and endocrine pancreatic insufficiency. For small bowel NET, surgery must always be considered to avoid complications such as small bowel obstruction. Lymphadenectomy must include at least 8 noded. Surgery must avoid short bowel… More >

Diagnostic Methods and Treatment Strategies for Neuroendocrine Tumours (Typical and Atypical Carcinoid Tumours)

    E. Dansin

    Oncologie, Vol.21, No.2, pp. 83-89, 2019, DOI:10.3166/onco-2019-0047

Abstract Typical or atypical bronchial carcinoids are rare tumors. The management of localized forms is essentially based on surgery and their prognosis remains good. The treatment of metastatic forms remains difficult with a low level of evidence. New treatments are emerging (everolimus, Lutatherapy), however, their respective place in the therapeutic algorithm should be clarified. Access to expertise and clinical research via the RENATEN-TENpath network should be promoted.
