    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.1, No.1, pp. 1-9, 2010, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v1.1.3007

Abstract Much research is currently being performed with carbon nanotube additives to neat resin systems to enhance properties such as thermal and electrical conductivity, strength, modulus and damping. Fabrication of parts based on carbon nanotube filled resin systems requires information on their cure kinetics and rheology, which has been relatively less studied so far. This work presents an extensive experimental study that systematically characterizes the cure kinetics and viscosity as a function of degree of cure and temperature of EPON 815C/EPICURE 3274 epoxy resin system laden with carbon nanotubes. Studies are conducted to determine the effects of the carbon nanotube loading… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.2, pp. 313-327, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.047938

Abstract Panax ginseng C. A. Mey. is an important plant species used in traditional Chinese medicine, whose primary active ingredient is a ginsenoside. Ginsenoside biosynthesis is not only regulated by transcription factors but also controlled by a variety of structural genes. Nonetheless, the molecular mechanism underlying ginsenoside biosynthesis has always been a topic in the discussion of ginseng secondary metabolites. Squalene epoxidase (SQE) is a key enzyme in the mevalonic acid pathway, which affects the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites such as terpenoid. Using ginseng transcriptome, expression, and ginsenoside content databases, this study employed bioinformatic methods to systematically analyze the genes encoding… More >

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.4, No.2, pp. 1-8, 2013, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v4.2.3006

Abstract Thermal diffusivity, specific heat, and thermal conductivity are important thermophysical properties of composite materials. These properties play a significant role in the engineering design process of space systems, aerospace vehicles, transportation, energy storage devices, and power generation including fuel cells. This paper examines these thermophysical properties of the AS4/3501-6 composite using the xenon flash method to measure the thermal diffusivity in accordance with ASTM E1461 and differential scanning calorimetry to measure the specific heat in accordance with ASTM E1269. The thermal conductivity was then calculated using a proportional relationship between the density, specific heat, and thermal diffusivity. More >

Abstract Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is a new network technology that uses programming to complement the data plane with a control plane. To enable safe connection, however, numerous security challenges must be addressed. Flooding attacks have been one of the most prominent risks on the internet for decades, and they are now becoming challenging difficulties in SDN networks. To solve these challenges, we proposed a unique firewall application built on multiple levels of packet filtering to provide a flooding attack prevention system and a layer-based packet detection system. This study offers a systematic strategy for wrapping up the examination of SDN operations.… More >

Abstract Background: Anisodine hydrobromide (AT3), an anti-cholinergic agent, could be delivered to the brain across the blood-brain barrier and has been used clinically for the treatment of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Endothelial dysfunction can be caused by hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) via oxidative stress and metabolic alterations. The present study investigated whether AT3 regulates the production of nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS), and the HIF-1α pathway via regulation of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) in brain microvascular endothelial cells after H/R exposure. Methods: Under H/R conditions, hCMEC/D3 cerebral microvascular endothelial cells were treated with AT3. Specific inhibitors of M2- and M4- mAChRs… More > Graphic Abstract

Reversal of maternal obesity attenuates hypoxia and improves placental development in the preeclamptic-like BPH/5 mouse model

    DANIELLA M. ADAMS1, KALIE F. BECKERS1, JULIET P. FLANAGAN1, VIVIANE C. L. GOMES1,#, CHIN-CHI LIU1, JENNY L. SONES1,2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.9, pp. 2051-2058, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.029644

Abstract Background: Women with obesity have higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, including preeclampsia (PE). Late-gestational hypertension, aberrant fetoplacental development, and fetal growth restriction (FGR), hallmarks of PE, are observed spontaneously in BPH/5 mice. Similar to obese preeclamptic women, BPH/5 mice have higher visceral white adipose tissue (WAT) and circulating leptin. We hypothesized that attenuation of maternal obesity and serum leptin in pregnant BPH/5 mice will improve fetoplacental development by decreasing hypoxia markers and leptin expression at the maternal-fetal interface. Methods: To test this hypothesis, BPH/5 mice were fed ad libitum (lib) and pair-fed (PF) to C57 ad lib controls beginning… More >
