    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.126, No.3, pp. 855-889, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014524 - 19 February 2021

Abstract Re-engineering the channel heat exchangers (CHEs) is the goal of many recent studies, due to their great importance in the scope of energy transport in various industrial and environmental fields. Changing the internal geometry of the CHEs by using extended surfaces, i.e., VGs (vortex generators), is the most common technique to enhance the efficiency of heat exchangers. This work aims to develop a new design of solar collectors to improve the overall energy efficiency. The study presents a new channel design by introducing VGs. The FVM (finite volume method) was adopted as a numerical technique… More >

    Guangyu Zhai1,2, Kuan Zhang2, Guorong Chai1,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.18, No.1, pp. 21-31, 2021, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2021.014287 - 26 January 2021

Abstract The study mainly analyzed the relationship between temperature and the upper respiratory tract infections (URI) in Lanzhou. We collected the daily URI and meteorological data from 2010 to 2015. A distributed lag non-linear model was used to examine the relationship and potential effects of different temperatures and different lag days on the morbidity of URI. The results showed that the morbidity of URI was significantly related to the meteorological factors, and the peak of the onset of the disease usually occurred between November and February the next year. The correlation analysis was carried out between… More >

    Amir Haider1, MuhibUr Rahman2, Hamza Ahmad3, Mahdi NaghshvarianJahromi4, Muhammad Tabish Niaz1, Hyung Seok Kim1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.2, pp. 2243-2254, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015613 - 05 February 2021

Abstract This paper introduces a compact dual notched UWB antenna with an independently controllable WLAN notched band integrated with fixed WiMAX band-notch. The proposed antenna utilizes a slot resonator placed in the main radiator of the antenna for fixed WiMAX band notch, while an inverted L-shaped resonator in the partial ground plane for achieving frequency agility within WLAN notched band. The inverted L-shaped resonator is also loaded with fixed and variable capacitors to control and adjust the WLAN notch. The WLAN notched band can be controlled independently with a wide range of tunability without disturbing the… More >

Adaptive Signal Enhancement Unit for EEG Analysis in Remote Patient Care Monitoring Systems

    Ch. Srinivas1,*, K. Chandrabhushana Rao2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.2, pp. 1801-1817, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014981 - 05 February 2021

Abstract In this paper we propose an efficient process of physiological artifact elimination methodology from brain waves (BW), which are also commonly known as electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. In a clinical environment during the acquisition of BW several artifacts contaminates the actual BW component. This leads to inaccurate and ambiguous diagnosis. As the statistical nature of the EEG signal is more non-stationery, adaptive filtering is the more promising method for the process of artifact elimination. In clinical conditions, the conventional adaptive techniques require many numbers of computational operations and leads to data samples overlapping and instability of… More >

A New Multi-Agent Feature Wrapper Machine Learning Approach for Heart Disease Diagnosis

    Mohamed Elhoseny1, Mazin Abed Mohammed2,*, Salama A. Mostafa3, Karrar Hameed Abdulkareem4, Mashael S. Maashi5, Begonya Garcia-Zapirain6, Ammar Awad Mutlag7, Marwah Suliman Maashi8

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 51-71, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012632 - 12 January 2021

Abstract Heart disease (HD) is a serious widespread life-threatening disease. The heart of patients with HD fails to pump sufficient amounts of blood to the entire body. Diagnosing the occurrence of HD early and efficiently may prevent the manifestation of the debilitating effects of this disease and aid in its effective treatment. Classical methods for diagnosing HD are sometimes unreliable and insufficient in analyzing the related symptoms. As an alternative, noninvasive medical procedures based on machine learning (ML) methods provide reliable HD diagnosis and efficient prediction of HD conditions. However, the existing models of automated ML-based… More >

Analytic Hierarchy Process for Evaluating Flipped Classroom Learning

Husam Jasim Mohammed1,*, Hajem Ati Daham2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.3, pp. 2229-2239, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014445 - 28 December 2020

Abstract In reality, the flipped classroom has gained popularity as a modern way of structuring teaching, where lectures move from in-class procedures to digitally-based assignments, freeing up the debate, and practice exercises class time. Therefore, it is essential to implement and analyze a way of teaching that will improve student performance. The paper aims to develop a model of the method of teaching science in Iraqi schools, and to assess whether teaching flipped classroom affects the achievement, motivation, and creative thinking of students by using the methodology of Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) in the Analytic Hierarchy… More >

Experimental Investigation on the Performance of Heat Pump Operating with Copper and Alumina Nanofluids

Faizan Ahmed*, Waqar Ahmed Khan, Jamal Nayfeh

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.3, pp. 2843-2856, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012041 - 28 December 2020

Abstract In the present study, an attempt is made to enhance the performance of heat pump by utilizing two types of nanofluids namely, copper and alumina nanofluids. These nanofluids were employed around the evaporator coil of the heat pump. The nanofluids were used to enhance the heat input to the system by means of providing an external jacket around the evaporator coil. Both the nanofluids were prepared in three volume fractions 1%, 2% and 5%. Water was chosen as the base fluid. The performance of the heat pump was assessed by calculating the coefficient of performance… More >

Abstract The Fused Modified Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm has been proposed, which selects the most specific feature sets from images of the disease of plant leaves. The Proposed algorithm ensures the detection of diseases during the early stages of the diagnosis of leaf disease by farmers and, finally, the crop needed to be controlled by farmers to ensure the survival and protection of plants. In this study, a novel approach has been suggested based on the standard optimization algorithm for grasshopper and the selection of features. Leaf conditions in plants are a major factor in reducing crop… More >

Improving the Detection Rate of Rarely Appearing Intrusions in Network-Based Intrusion Detection Systems

    Eunmok Yang1, Gyanendra Prasad Joshi2, Changho Seo3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 1647-1663, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.013210 - 26 November 2020

Abstract In network-based intrusion detection practices, there are more regular instances than intrusion instances. Because there is always a statistical imbalance in the instances, it is difficult to train the intrusion detection system effectively. In this work, we compare intrusion detection performance by increasing the rarely appearing instances rather than by eliminating the frequently appearing duplicate instances. Our technique mitigates the statistical imbalance in these instances. We also carried out an experiment on the training model by increasing the instances, thereby increasing the attack instances step by step up to 13 levels. The experiments included not… More >
