    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 2175-2190, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021899

Abstract The capability of piles to withstand horizontal loads is a major design issue. The current research work aims to investigate numerically the responses of laterally loaded piles at working load employing the concept of a beam-on-Winkler-foundation model. The governing differential equation for a laterally loaded pile on elastic subgrade is derived. Based on Legendre-Galerkin method and Runge-Kutta formulas of order four and five, the flexural equation of long piles embedded in homogeneous sandy soils with modulus of subgrade reaction linearly variable with depth is solved for both free- and fixed-headed piles. Mathematica, as one of the world's leading computational software,… More >

Abstract Detection of epileptic seizures on the basis of Electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings is a challenging task due to the complex, non-stationary and non-linear nature of these biomedical signals. In the existing literature, a number of automatic epileptic seizure detection methods have been proposed that extract useful features from EEG segments and classify them using machine learning algorithms. Some characterizing features of epileptic and non-epileptic EEG signals overlap; therefore, it requires that analysis of signals must be performed from diverse perspectives. Few studies analyzed these signals in diverse domains to identify distinguishing characteristics of epileptic EEG signals. To pose the challenge mentioned… More >

Abstract In many civil engineering projects, Piled Raft Foundations (PRFs) are usually preferred where the incoming load from the superstructures is very high. In geotechnical engineering practice, the settlement of soil layers is a critical issue for the serviceability of the structures. Thus, assessment of risk associated with the structures corresponding to the maximum allowable settlement of soils needs to be carried out in the design phase. In this study, reliability analysis of PRF based on settlement criteria is performed using a high-performance hybrid soft computing model. The new approach is an integration of the artificial neural network (ANN) and a… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 1427-1446, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015524

Abstract Today, electroencephalography is used to measure brain activity by creating signals that are viewed on a monitor. These signals are frequently used to obtain information about brain neurons and may detect disorders that affect the brain, such as epilepsy. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are however prone to artefacts. These artefacts must be removed to obtain accurate and meaningful signals. Currently, computer-aided systems have been used for this purpose. These systems provide high computing power, problem-specific development, and other advantages. In this study, a new clinical decision support system was developed for individuals to detect epileptic seizures using EEG signals. Comprehensive classification… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.1, pp. 471-486, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018239

Abstract Electroencephalography is a common clinical procedure to record brain signals generated by human activity. EEGs are useful in Brain controlled interfaces and other intelligent Neuroscience applications, but manual analysis of these brainwaves is complicated and time-consuming even for the experts of neuroscience. Various EEG analysis and classification techniques have been proposed to address this problem however, the conventional classification methods require identification and learning of specific EEG characteristics beforehand. Deep learning models can learn features from data without having in depth knowledge of data and prior feature identification. One of the great implementations of deep learning is Convolutional Neural Network… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 149-165, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015976

Abstract Epilepsy is a type of brain disorder that causes recurrent seizures. It is the second most common neurological disease after Alzheimer’s. The effects of epilepsy in children are serious, since it causes a slower growth rate and a failure to develop certain skills. In the medical field, specialists record brain activity using an Electroencephalogram (EEG) to observe the epileptic seizures. The detection of these seizures is performed by specialists, but the results might not be accurate due to human errors; therefore, automated detection of epileptic pediatric seizures might be the optimal solution. This paper investigates the detection of epileptic seizures… More >

Abstract Comprehensive evaluation of common complex diseases associated with common gene mutations is currently a hot area of human genome research into causative new developments. A multi-fractal analysis of the genome is performed by placing the entire DNA sequence into smaller fragments and using the chaotic game representation and systematic methods to calculate the general dimensional spectrum of each fragment. This is a time consuming process as it uses floating point to represent large data sets and requires processing time. The proposed Regressive Multi-Array Deep Neural Classifier (RMDNC) system is implemented to reduce the computation time, it is called a polymorphic… More >

Abstract The so-called pore network model has great advantages in describing the process of heat and mass transfer in porous media. In order to construct a random two-dimensional (2D) irregular pore network model for an unconsolidated material, image processing technology was used to extract the required topological and geometric information from a 2D sample of soybean particles, and a dedicated algorithm was elaborated to merge some adjacent small pores. Based on the extracted information, a 2D pore network model including particle information was reconstructed and verified to reflect the pore structure of discrete particles. This method was used to reconstruct a… More >
