    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.17, No.3, pp. 351-363, 2022, DOI:10.32604/chd.2022.019382

Abstract Background: Postoperative pulmonary hypertension limits the success of surgical treatment in some patients with unrestrictive congenital cardiac communications. Identifying patients at risk of developing postoperative pulmonary hypertension is important to individualize follow-up strategies. Methods: We analyzed a prospective cohort of 52 pediatric patients (age 3 to 35 months) looking for perioperative predictors of mildly elevated pulmonary arterial pressure 6 months after surgery, defined as a systolic pressure greater than 30 mmHg by transthoracic echocardiography. This corresponds to a mean pulmonary arterial pressure of >20 mmHg. Clinical, echocardiographic and hemodynamic parameters were investigated. Perioperative hemodynamics was assessed by directly measuring pulmonary and systemic… More >

Mohamed Saber Hafez*, Alaa Roushdy, Dina Ezzeldin

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.17, No.3, pp. 325-333, 2022, DOI:10.32604/chd.2022.019025

Abstract Background: Coarctation of the aorta is a congenital heart disease that sometimes remains clinically silent until adulthood, usually presenting with arterial hypertension. It is well known that after coarctation treatment, many patients remain hypertensive despite successful repair. In this study we approached the predictors and effects of residual hypertension after successful coarctation therapy. Methods: It was a cross sectional observational study involving 50 patients who underwent Coarctation repair/angioplasty in Ain Shams university hospitals. We divided the patients into two groups (hypertensive and normotensive) and we studied their demographic data (e.g., age, gender, age at first repair, follow up period, etc.)… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.3, pp. 1601-1613, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.019226

Abstract By adding copper to increase the performance, the Ni-Ti-Cu Shape Memory Alloy (SMA), has been widely used in the field of engineering in recent years. A thermodynamic constitutive model for Ni-Ti-Cu SMA considering different copper contents is established in this work. Numerical results for two different copper contents, as examples, are compared with the experimental results to verify the accuracy of the theoretical work. Based on the verified constitutive model, the effects of different copper content on the mechanical properties of Ni-Ti-Cu SMA and the tensile and compressive asymmetric properties of Ni-Ti-Cu SMA are finally discussed, respectively. Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.3, pp. 929-946, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.014816

Abstract Due to the increasing power consumption of whole society and widely using of new non-linear and asymmetric electrical equipment, power quality assessment problem in the new period has attracted more and more attention. The mathematical essence of comprehensive assessment of power quality is a multi-attribute optimal decision-making problem. In order to solve the key problem of determining the indicator weight in the process of power quality assessment, a rough analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is proposed to aggregate the judgment opinions of multiple experts and eliminate the subjective effects of single expert judgment. Based on the advantage of extension analysis for… More >

    Yinhuan Yang1,*, Manfeng Gong1, Xiaoqun Xia1, Linzhi Wu2,3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.1, pp. 365-378, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018535

Abstract The mechanical properties of Z-pins reinforced composites adhesively bonded single-lap joints (SLJs) under un-directional tension loading are investigated by experimental and numerical methods. Three kinds of joint configurations, including SLJs with three/two rows of Z-pins and “I” array of Z-pins, are investigated by tension test. The failure modes and mechanism of reinforced joints with different Z-pins numbers and alignment are analyzed, and the comparison is performed for the failure strengths of no Z-pins and Z-pins reinforced joints. According to experimental results, failure modes of three kinds of joints are all mixed failure. It turns out that the Z-pins are pulled… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.1, pp. 415-441, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.017368

Abstract The multiple coupling of composite laminates has a unique advantage in improving the macro mechanical properties of composite structures. A total of three hygro-thermally stable multi-coupled laminates with extension-twisting coupling were presented, which were conducive to the formation of passive adaptive structures. Then, the multi-coupled laminates were used to design the bending-twisting coupled box structure, in which the configuration of laminate and box structure could be extended to variable cross-section configuration. The optimal design of stacking sequence was realized, the optimization objectives of which were to maximize bending-twisting coupling of box structure and extension-twisting coupling of laminate, respectively. The effects… More >

Hybrid Sensor Selection Technique for Lifetime Extension of Wireless Sensor Networks

    Khaled M. Fouad1 , Basma M. Hassan2,*, Omar M. Salim3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.3, pp. 4965-4985, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020926

    Abstract

Energy conservation is a crucial issue to extend the lifetime of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) where the battery capacity and energy sources are very restricted. Intelligent energy-saving techniques can help designers overcome this issue by reducing the number of selected sensors that report environmental measurements by eliminating all replicated and unrelated features. This paper suggests a Hybrid Sensor Selection (HSS) technique that combines filter-wrapper method to acquire a rich-informational subset of sensors in a reasonable time. HSS aims to increase the lifetime of WSNs by using the optimal number of sensors. At the same time, HSS maintains the desired level… More >
