GestureID: Gesture-Based User Authentication on Smart Devices Using Acoustic Sensing

    Jizhao Liu1,2, Jiang Hui1,2,*, Zhaofa Wang1,2

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.58, pp. 151-169, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sv.2024.045193

Abstract User authentication on smart devices is crucial to protecting user privacy and device security. Due to the development of emerging attacks, existing physiological feature-based authentication methods, such as fingerprint, iris, and face recognition are vulnerable to forgery and attacks. In this paper, GestureID, a system that utilizes acoustic sensing technology to distinguish hand features among users, is proposed. It involves using a speaker to send acoustic signals and a microphone to receive the echoes affected by the reflection of the hand movements of the users. To ensure system accuracy and effectively distinguish users’ gestures, a second-order differential-based phase extraction method… More >

Abstract With the development of hardware devices and the upgrading of smartphones, a large number of users save privacy-related information in mobile devices, mainly smartphones, which puts forward higher demands on the protection of mobile users’ privacy information. At present, mobile user authentication methods based on human-computer interaction have been extensively studied due to their advantages of high precision and non-perception, but there are still shortcomings such as low data collection efficiency, untrustworthy participating nodes, and lack of practicability. To this end, this paper proposes a privacy-enhanced mobile user authentication method with motion sensors, which mainly includes: (1) Construct a smart… More >

    Muhammad Bilal1,*, Sandile C. Shongwe2, Abid Bashir3, Yazeed Y. Ghadi4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.3, pp. 4713-4733, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.037071

Abstract To secure web applications from Man-In-The-Middle (MITM) and phishing attacks is a challenging task nowadays. For this purpose, authentication protocol plays a vital role in web communication which securely transfers data from one party to another. This authentication works via OpenID, Kerberos, password authentication protocols, etc. However, there are still some limitations present in the reported security protocols. In this paper, the presented anticipated strategy secures both Web-based attacks by leveraging encoded emails and a novel password form pattern method. The proposed OpenID-based encrypted Email’s Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (EAAA) protocol ensure security by relying on the email authenticity and… More >

Continuous Mobile User Authentication Using a Hybrid CNN-Bi-LSTM Approach

    Sarah Alzahrani1, Joud Alderaan1, Dalya Alatawi1, Bandar Alotaibi1,2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 651-667, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.035173

Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) devices incorporate a large amount of data in several fields, including those of medicine, business, and engineering. User authentication is paramount in the IoT era to assure connected devices’ security. However, traditional authentication methods and conventional biometrics-based authentication approaches such as face recognition, fingerprints, and password are vulnerable to various attacks, including smudge attacks, heat attacks, and shoulder surfing attacks. Behavioral biometrics is introduced by the powerful sensing capabilities of IoT devices such as smart wearables and smartphones, enabling continuous authentication. Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based approaches introduce a bright future in refining large amounts of homogeneous biometric… More >

Implicit Continuous User Authentication for Mobile Devices based on Deep Reinforcement Learning

    Christy James Jose1,*, M. S. Rajasree2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.2, pp. 1357-1372, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.025672

Abstract The predominant method for smart phone accessing is confined to methods directing the authentication by means of Point-of-Entry that heavily depend on physiological biometrics like, fingerprint or face. Implicit continuous authentication initiating to be loftier to conventional authentication mechanisms by continuously confirming users’ identities on continuing basis and mark the instant at which an illegitimate hacker grasps dominance of the session. However, divergent issues remain unaddressed. This research aims to investigate the power of Deep Reinforcement Learning technique to implicit continuous authentication for mobile devices using a method called, Gaussian Weighted Cauchy Kriging-based Continuous Czekanowski’s (GWCK-CC). First, a Gaussian Weighted… More >

Encryption with User Authentication Model for Internet of Medical Things Environment

    K. S. Riya1, R. Surendran2,*, Carlos Andrés Tavera Romero3, M. Sadish Sendil4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.1, pp. 507-520, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.027779

Abstract Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) enabled e-healthcare has the potential to greately improve conventional healthcare services significantly. However, security and privacy become major issues of IoMT because of the restricted processing abilities, storage, and energy constraints of the sensors. Therefore, it leads to infeasibility of developing traditional cryptographic solutions to the IoMT sensors. In order to ensure security on sensitive medical data, effective encryption and authentication techniques need to be designed to assure security of the patients and healthcare service providers. In this view, this study designs an effective metaheuristic optimization based encryption with user authentication (EMOE-UA) technique for IoMT… More >

    Chien-Ming Chen1,*, Shuangshuang Liu1, Shehzad Ashraf Chaudhry2, Yeh-Cheng Chen3, Muhammad Asghar khan4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.1, pp. 307-329, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018749

Abstract With the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), the word “intelligent medical care” has increasingly become a major vision. Intelligent medicine adopts the most advanced IoT technology to realize the interaction between patients and people, medical institutions, and medical equipment. However, with the openness of network transmission, the security and privacy of information transmission have become a major problem. Recently, Masud et al. proposed a lightweight anonymous user authentication protocol for IoT medical treatment, claiming that their method can resist various attacks. However, through analysis of the protocol, we observed that their protocol cannot effectively resist privileged internal attacks,… More >

    Abstract

The mature design of wireless mobile sensor network makes it to be used in vast verities of applications including from home used to the security surveillance. All such types of applications based on wireless mobile sensor network are generally using real time data, most of them are interested in real time communication directly from cluster head of cluster instead of a base station in cluster network. This would be possible if an external user allows to directly access real time data from the cluster head in cluster wireless mobile sensor network instead of accessing data from base station. But this… More >

Tao Liu, Gan Huang*, Ping Zhang

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.3, pp. 519-529, 2018, DOI:10.31209/2018.100000019

Abstract In this article, a new user authentication protocol using trust model, elliptic curve cryptography and biometrics for WSNs is submitted. The result of the trust model analysis indicates that the model can improve the model’s ability of withstanding attacks from the malicious nodes. The results of safety analysis and performance analysis for our proposed user authentication protocol demonstrate that this protocol can be flexible to all sorts of common known attacks and performs similarly or better compared with some active user authentication protocols. It is suitable for WSNs which have a prominent request for the security and the performance. More >
