    Abstract The numerical simulation for a new type of precast concrete barrier for viaducts is carried out systematically. To obtain an accurate representation of the damage state of the concrete barrier under the impact of a vehicle, a stochastic damage-plasticity model of the concrete is adopted in the finite element model.     Abstract Background: Heart failure (HF) is the leading cause of death in adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD). Identification of disease progression and timing of referral for advanced therapies is often delayed. However, increased awareness and understanding of ACHD and improvements in the approach to treatment have led to improved outcomes. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a common barrier to HT. In ACHD, the approach to PH and HT is quite complicated, given the anatomic heterogeneity and lower prevalence and experience.     Abstract The F-box protein-encoding gene family plays an essential role in plant stress resistance. In present study, 126 non-redundant F-box genes were identified in barley (Hordeum vulgare L., Hv). The corresponding proteins contained 165– 887 amino acid residues and all were amphiphilic, except 5 proteins. Phylogenetic analysis of F-box protein sequences in barley and stress-related F-box protein sequences in wheat and Arabidopsis thaliana (At) was used to classify barley F-box genes are divided into 9 subfamilies (A–I).     Abstract A mathematical model for unsteady electro- and aerodynamic processes in the presence of a plasma actuator has been elaborated through physical modeling of the dielectric barrier discharge. A specialized computational fluid dynamics package has been developed accordingly in order to calculate steady and unsteady laminar and turbulent flows. For the numerical simulation of the dielectric barrier discharge, in particular, two equations have been added to the Navier-Stokes equations and solved.     Abstract Polygala paniculata L. is a medicinal plant that grows in the Brazilian Atlantic coast, known as ‘barba-de-São-João’, ‘barba-de-bode’, ‘vassourinha branca’, and ‘mimosa’. In this study, pollen viability was estimated by three different staining methods: 2% acetic orcein, 2% acetic carmine, and Alexander’s stain. The young inflorescences of twenty accessions were collected and fixed in a solution of ethanol: acetic acid (3:1) for 24 hours, then stored in ethanol 70% under refrigeration.     Abstract The medicinal flora of the Venda region consists of a variety of species, which may potentially provide therapeutic agents to treat different diseases. Bark use for medicinal purposes has been reported for approximately 30% of the woody species (153 species) in the Venda region in southern Africa.
