Abstract The state of cutting tool determines the quality of surface produced on the machined parts. A faulty tool produces poor surface, inaccurate geometry and non-economic production. Thus, it is necessary to monitor tool condition for a machining process to have superior quality and economic production. In the present study, fault classification of single point cutting tool for hard turning has been carried out by employing machine learning technique. Cutting force and vibration signals were acquired to monitor tool condition during machining. A set of four tooling conditions namely healthy, worn flank, broken insert and extended… More >

    Wafaa Alharbi1, Abdulrahman Aljohani1, Essam El-Zahar2, 3, *, Abdelhalim Ebaid1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.63, No.3, pp. 1143-1157, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.08875 - 30 April 2020

Abstract In this paper, the mathematical model describing the third-grade nonNewtonian blood flow suspended with nanoparticles through porous arteries is exactly solved. The present physical model was solved in the research literature via the optimal homotopy analysis method and the collocation method, where the obtained solution was compared with the numerical fourth-order Runge-Kutta solution. However, the present paper only introduces a new approach to obtain the exact solution of the concerned system and implements such exact solution as a reference to validate the published approximate solutions. Several remarks on the previously published results are observed and… More >

Comparative Study on Tree Classifiers for Application to Condition Monitoring of Wind Turbine Blade through Histogram Features Using Vibration Signals: A Data-Mining Approach

    A. Joshuva1,*, V. Sugumaran2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.13, No.4, pp. 399-416, 2019, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2019.03014

Abstract Wind energy is considered as a alternative renewable energy source due to its low operating cost when compared with other sources. The wind turbine is an essential system used to change kinetic energy into electrical energy. Wind turbine blades, in particular, require a competitive condition inspection approach as it is a significant component of the wind turbine system that costs around 20-25 percent of the total turbine cost. The main objective of this study is to differentiate between various blade faults which affect the wind turbine blade under operating conditions using a machine learning approach… More >

Comparative Study of the Propagation of Jet Noise in Static and Flow Environments

Wen Zhao, Dongxing Mao*, Zaixiu Jiang

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.53, No.1, pp. 37-46, 2019, DOI:10.32604/sv.2019.04368

Abstract In order to analyze the effect of the background flow on the sound prediction of fine-scale turbulence noise, the sound spectra from static and flow environments are compared. It turns out that, the two methods can obtain similar predictions not only at 90 deg to the jet axis but also at mid- and high frequencies in other directions. The discrepancies of predictions from the two environments show that the effect of the jet flow on the sound propagation is related to low frequencies in the downstream and upstream directions. It is noted that there is More >

Abstract A series of Co-M (M = Ce, Fe, Zr) binary oxides supported on N-doped catalysts were prepared by impregnation methods and tested for DRM reaction. Moreover, the influence of Co and Ce atomic contents in the catalysts on DRM performance was investigated. Significant enhancement of activity performance over Ce promoted 3Co-1Ce/AC-N catalyst was observed. Compared with Fe and Zr, the catalyst with 1/4 mol% of Ce showed the highest activity and was higher than the supported Co catalyst. The calcined and spent catalysts were characterized by XPS, H2-TPR, TEM and EDX mapping studies. The characterization results… More >

Abstract Metaheuristic algorithms are found to be promising for difficult and high dimensional problems. Most of these algorithms are inspired by different natural phenomena. Currently, there are hundreds of these metaheuristic algorithms introduced and used. The introduction of new algorithm has been one of the issues researchers focused in the past fifteen years. However, there is a critic that some of the new algorithms are not in fact new in terms of their search behavior. Hence, a comparative study in between existing algorithms to highlight their differences and similarity needs to be studied. Apart from knowing… More >

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.12, No.3, pp. 169-187, 2018, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2018.00240

Abstract The equivalent diagonal strut models of infill wall mainly include the single strut model and multi-strut model. Firstly, several equivalent strut models and their characteristics are introduced in this paper. Then, model analysis and pushover analysis are carried out on infilled frame models with the aid of the software SAP2000. Two typical single strut models and a typical three-strut model are used to simulate the panel of the frames respectively. It is indicated that the period reduction factor of the frame with a three-strut model is close to the value recommended by the current code. More >

    T. Sravan Kumar, B. Rushi Kumar*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-7, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.13

Abstract In this work, the steady natural convective boundary layer flow of nanofluid and heat transfer over a stretching sheet in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field is investigated. We consider two different base fluids and three different nanoparticles were examined as nanofluid. A new model was used in the simulation of nanofluid. Similarity transformations are used to obtain a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The resulting equations are solved numerically by shooting method with Runge-Kutta fourth order scheme (MATLAB package). The effects of various parameters describing the transport in the presence of More >
