    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.3, pp. 5697-5715, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033007

Abstract In recent years, there has been a rapid growth in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs). The focus of research in this area is now on solving the problems associated with large-scale UWSN. One of the major issues in such a network is the localization of underwater nodes. Localization is required for tracking objects and detecting the target. It is also considered tagging of data where sensed contents are not found of any use without localization. This is useless for application until the position of sensed content is confirmed. This article’s major goal is to review and analyze underwater node localization… More >

Relative-Position Estimation Based on Loosely Coupled UWB–IMU Fusion for Wearable IoT Devices

    A. S. M. Sharifuzzaman Sagar1, Taein Kim1, Soyoung Park1, Hee Seh Lee2, Hyung Seok Kim1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 1941-1961, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.035360

Abstract Relative positioning is one of the important techniques in collaborative robotics, autonomous vehicles, and virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR) applications. Recently, ultra-wideband (UWB) has been utilized to calculate relative position as it does not require a line of sight compared to a camera to calculate the range between two objects with centimeter-level accuracy. However, the single UWB range measurement cannot provide the relative position and attitude of any device in three dimensions (3D) because of lacking bearing information. In this paper, we have proposed a UWB-IMU fusion-based relative position system to provide accurate relative position and attitude between wearable Internet of Things… More >

    Mohamed Elnagi1, Salah Kamel2, Abdelhady Ramadan2, Mohamed F. Elnaggar3,4,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 5229-5250, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.032469

Abstract Renewable energy sources are gaining popularity, particularly photovoltaic energy as a clean energy source. This is evident in the advancement of scientific research aimed at improving solar cell performance. Due to the non-linear nature of the photovoltaic cell, modeling solar cells and extracting their parameters is one of the most important challenges in this discipline. As a result, the use of optimization algorithms to solve this problem is expanding and evolving at a rapid rate. In this paper, a weIghted meaN oF vectOrs algorithm (INFO) that calculates the weighted mean for a set of vectors in the search space has… More >

    Yingying Li1, Hang Jiang1, Lianjie Yu1, Jianfeng Li1,2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.3, pp. 2123-2136, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021407

Abstract To improve the estimation accuracy, a novel time delay estimation (TDE) method based on the closed-form offset compensation is proposed. Firstly, we use the generalized cross-correlation with phase transform (GCC-PHAT) method to obtain the initial TDE. Secondly, a signal model using normalized cross spectrum is established, and the noise subspace is extracted by eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) of covariance matrix. Using the orthogonal relation between the steering vector and the noise subspace, the first-order Taylor expansion is carried out on the steering vector reconstructed by the initial TDE. Finally, the offsets are compensated via simple least squares (LS). Compared to other… More >

    Wen Zhang1,2, Wei Fang1,3,*, Xuelei Jia1,2, Victor S. Sheng4

    Journal of Quantum Computing, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 23-37, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jqc.2022.026975

Abstract In order to solve the rainfall estimation error caused by various noise factors such as clutter, super refraction, and raindrops during the detection process of Doppler weather radar. This paper proposes to improve the rainfall estimation model of radar combined with rain gauge which calibrated by common Kalman filter. After data preprocessing, the radar data should be classified according to the precipitation intensity. And then, they are respectively substituted into the improved filter for calibration. The state noise variance and the measurement noise variance can be adaptively calculated and updated according to the input observation data during this process. Then… More >

Parameter Estimation Based on Censored Data under Partially Accelerated Life Testing for Hybrid Systems due to Unknown Failure Causes

    Mustafa Kamal*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.3, pp. 1239-1269, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.017532

Abstract In general, simple subsystems like series or parallel are integrated to produce a complex hybrid system. The reliability of a system is determined by the reliability of its constituent components. It is often extremely difficult or impossible to get specific information about the component that caused the system to fail. Unknown failure causes are instances in which the actual cause of system failure is unknown. On the other side, thanks to current advanced technology based on computers, automation, and simulation, products have become incredibly dependable and trustworthy, and as a result, obtaining failure data for testing such exceptionally reliable items… More >

A New Rayleigh Distribution: Properties and Estimation Based on Progressive Type-II Censored Data with an Application

    Ali Algarni, Abdullah M. Almarashi*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.1, pp. 379-396, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.017714

Abstract In this paper, we propose a new extension of the traditional Rayleigh distribution called the modified Kies Rayleigh distribution. The new distribution contains one scale and one shape parameter and its hazard rate function can be increasing and bathtub-shaped. Some mathematical properties of the new distribution are derived including quantiles and moments. The parameters of modified Kies Rayleigh distribution are estimated based on progressively Type-II censored data. For this purpose, we consider two estimation methods, namely maximum likelihood and maximum product of spacing estimation methods. To compare the efficiency of the proposed estimators, a simulation study is carried out. To… More >

Face Age Estimation Based on CSLBP and Lightweight Convolutional Neural Network

    Yang Wang1, Ying Tian1,*, Ou Tian2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 2203-2216, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018709

Abstract As the use of facial attributes continues to expand, research into facial age estimation is also developing. Because face images are easily affected by factors including illumination and occlusion, the age estimation of faces is a challenging process. This paper proposes a face age estimation algorithm based on lightweight convolutional neural network in view of the complexity of the environment and the limitations of device computing ability. Improving face age estimation based on Soft Stagewise Regression Network (SSR-Net) and facial images, this paper employs the Center Symmetric Local Binary Pattern (CSLBP) method to obtain the feature image and then combines… More >

    Rashad Bantan1, Amal S. Hassan2, Mahmoud Elsehetry3, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.65, No.3, pp. 2169-2187, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.011497

Abstract In this article, we offer a new adapted model with three parameters, called Zubair Lomax distribution. The new model can be very useful in analyzing and modeling real data and provides better fits than some others new models. Primary properties of the Zubair Lomax model are determined by moments, probability weighted moments, Renyi entropy, quantile function and stochastic ordering, among others. Maximum likelihood method is used to estimate the population parameters, owing to simple random sample and ranked set sampling schemes. The behavior of the maximum likelihood estimates for the model parameters is studied using Monte Carlo simulation. Criteria measures… More >
