Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-7, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.12

Abstract The loop experiment device plays an important role in the study of wax deposition, and the calculation of the temperature distribution of the test section is the key to establish the wax deposition model. In the conditions of the wax deposition was not formed and constant wall temperature of the tube, the energy balance equation is solved by using separation of variables and combining the Kummer equation (S-K method), the distribution law of temperature in the test section is obtained, and the solution results was compared with Svendsen method, the difference between the results obtained by the two methods and… More >

Weera Punin*, Somchai Maneewan, Chantana Punlek

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.11, pp. 1-5, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.11.22

Abstract In the present experimental investigation, ethylene glycol cooling in a plate-fin heat sink was attached inside an aluminum cooling block for the cooling unit of a thermoelectric (TE) power generator system. The plate-fin heat sink with two different fin heights was made from aluminum with length, width and base thickness of 300, 200, and 25 mm, respectively. The ethylene glycol was used as a coolant. The effects of fin height, coolant volume flow rate, and hot side surface temperature were considered for the temperature differences between the hot side surface and cold side surface of the TE power module. Yue Liang, Wenxuan Dai, Wei Chen*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2639-2659, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.027622

Abstract Glass powder of various particle sizes (2, 5, 10 and 15 μm) has been assessed as a possible cement substitute for mortars. Different replacement rates of cement (5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) have been considered for all particle sizes. The accessible porosity, compressive strength, gas permeability and microstructure have been investigated accordingly. The results have shown that adding glass powder up to 20% has a significantly negative effect on the porosity and compressive strength of mortar. The compressive strength initially rises with a 5% replacement and then decreases. Similarly, the gas permeability of the mortar displays a non-monotonic behavior; first, it… More >

Abstract The well-known frictional effect related to liquid-liquid two-phase flow in pipelines can be reduced using drag-reducing additives. In this study, such an effect has been investigated experimentally using a mixture of oil and water. Moreover, numerical simulations have been carried out using the COMSOL simulation software. The measurements were taken in a horizontal pipe with the length and diameter equal to 3 and 0.125 m, respectively. Moreover, Polyethylene oxide with 150 ppm was exploited to reduce the drag effect while considering different water-to-oil fractions (0.3, 0.4, 0.5, and 0.7) and a constant total flow velocity of 2.3 m/s. As made… More >

Experimental Study on the Thermal Performances of a Tube-Type Indirect Evaporative Cooler

Tiezhu Sun*, Huan Sun, Tingzheng Tang, Yongcheng Yan, Peixuan Li

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2519-2531, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.027118

Abstract The so-called indirect evaporative cooling technology is widely used in air conditioning applications. The thermal characterization of tube-type indirect evaporative coolers, however, still presents challenges which need to be addressed to make this technology more reliable and easy to implement. This experimental study deals with the performances of a tube-type indirect evaporative cooler based on an aluminum tube with a 10 mm diameter. In particular, the required tests were carried out considering a range of dry-bulb temperatures between 16°C and 18°C and a temperature difference between the wet-bulb and dry-bulb temperature of 2°C∼4°C. The integrated convective heat transfer coefficient inside the… More > Graphic Abstract

NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS OF NATURAL CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER FROM TWO-SIDED DIAGONALLY INCLINED SQUARE PLATES HAVING A FINITE THICKNESS

Rafiq Manna* , Patrick H. Oosthuizen

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-12, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.7

Abstract Natural convective heat transfer from two-sided diagonally inclined square plates having various thicknesses has been numerically and experimentally investigated. The aim of this work is to determine the influence of the plate thickness and diagonal inclination angle on the heat transfer rate for various flow regimes. The mean heat transfer rate was numerically obtained using ANSYS FLUENT© and experimentally determined using the Lumped Capacity Method. The results indicate that the plate thickness does not have a significant influence on the heat transfer rate while the diagonal inclination angle significantly influences the heat transfer rate especially at higher Rayleigh number values… More >

Experimental Study on the Influence of Fracturing Fluid Retention on Shale Gas Diffusion Law

    Zhiyuan Yao1,2,3, Jing Sun1,2,3,*, Dehua Liu1,2,3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.8, pp. 1853-1866, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.025846

Abstract Shale gas reservoirs have poor physical properties and a large number of micro-nano pores have been developed. Shale gas wells have no natural productivity and need fracturing reconstruction measures to put into production. However, the fracturing fluid will enter the reservoir space of shale matrix after fracturing and affect the production of shale gas. At present, there is no consensus on the influence of fracturing fluid retention on gas well production. Based on this, the paper adopts gas molecular transport analyzer to carry out experimental research on the influence of fracturing fluid on shale gas diffusion law after entering matrix… More >

An Experimental Study on the Interaction between Hydrate Formation and Wax Precipitation in Waxy Oil-in-Water Emulsions

    Xincan Song1,3,4, Lin Wang1,3,4,*, Cheng Yu1,2, Jiaxin Chen1,3,4, Linjie Ma1,3,4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.8, pp. 1837-1852, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.027637

Abstract The coupled formation of wax crystals and hydrates is a critical issue for the safety of deep-sea oil and gas exploration and subsea transport pipeline flow. Therefore, this paper conducts an experimental study on the characteristics of methane hydrate formation in a water-in-oil (W/O) system with different wax crystal contents and explores the influence of different initial experimental pressures on the induction period and maximum rate of hydrate formation. The wavelet function was introduced to process the reaction rate and calculate the maximum speed of hydrate formation. Notably, the higher the pressure, the smaller the maximum rate of hydrate formation.… More >

    Wenqi Zhao1, Wenbin Sun1,2,3,*, Zhenbo Cao1, Jianbang Hao1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.7, pp. 3073-3089, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.026409

Abstract Mine grouting reinforcement and water plugging projects often require large amounts of grouting materials. To reduce the carbon emission of grouting material production, improve the utilization of solid waste from mining enterprises, and meet the needs of mine reinforcement and seepage control, a double-liquid grouting material containing a high admixture of coal gangue powder/bottom ash geopolymer was studied. The setting time, fluidity, bleeding rate, and mechanical properties of grouting materials were studied through laboratory tests, and SEM analyzed the microstructure of the materials. The results show that the total mixture of calcined gangue does not exceed 60%. And the proportion… More >
