Abstract A linear flexible joint system using fractional order linear active disturbance rejection control is studied in this paper. With this control scheme, the performance against disturbances, uncertainties, and attenuation is enhanced. Linear active disturbance rejection control (LADRC) is mainly based on an extended state observer (ESO) technology. A fractional integral (FOI) action is combined with the LADRC technique which proposes a hybrid control scheme like FO-LADRC. Incorporating this FOI action improves the robustness of the standard LADRC. The set-point tracking of the proposed FO-LADRC scheme is designed by Bode's ideal transfer function (BITF) based robust closed-loop concept, an appropriate pole… More >

Nasir Mahmud Khokhar1, Muhammad Nadeem Majeed2, Syed Muslim Shah3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.2, pp. 2209-2224, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.019120

Abstract In this study, it is proposed that the diffusion least mean square (LMS) algorithm can be improved by applying the fractional order signal processing methodologies. Application of Caputo’s fractional derivatives are considered in the optimization of cost function. It is suggested to derive a fractional order variant of the diffusion LMS algorithm. The applicability is tested for the estimation of channel parameters in a distributed environment consisting of randomly distributed sensors communicating through wireless medium. The topology of the network is selected such that a smaller number of nodes are informed. In the network, a random sleep strategy is followed… More >

    Moustafa El-shahed1,*, Asmaa M. Al-Dububan2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.2, pp. 749-764, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.019655

Abstract In this paper, a deterministic and stochastic fractional order model for lesser date moth (LDM) using mating disruption and natural enemies is proposed and analysed. The interaction between LDM larvae, fertilized LDM female, unfertilized LDM female, LDM male and the natural enemy is investigated. In order to clarify the characteristics of the proposed deterministic fractional order model, the analysis of existence, uniqueness, non-negativity and boundedness of the solutions of the proposed fractional-order model are examined. In addition, some sufficient conditions are obtained to ensure the local and global stability of equilibrium points. The occurrence of local bifurcation near the equilibrium… More >

PSO Based Torque Ripple Minimization Of Switched Reluctance Motor Using FPGA Controller

    A. Manjula1,*, L. Kalaivani2, M. Gengaraj2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.29, No.2, pp. 451-465, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.016088

Abstract The fast-growing field of mechanical robotization necessitates a well-designed and controlled version of electric drives. The concept of control concerning mechanical characteristics also requires a methodology in which the system needs to be modeled precisely and deals with uncertainty. The proposed method provides the enhanced performance of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) by controlling its speed and minimized torque ripple. Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers have drawn more attention in industry automation due to their ease and robustness. The performances are further improved by using fractional order (Non-integer) controllers. The Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO) based optimization approach is employed to acquire the… More >

    Hegazy Rezk1,2,*, Mohammed Mazen Alhato3, Mohemmed Alhaider1, Soufiene Bouallègue3,4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 185-199, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016175

Abstract In this research paper, an improved strategy to enhance the performance of the DC-link voltage loop regulation in a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) based wind energy system has been proposed. The proposed strategy used the robust Fractional-Order (FO) Proportional-Integral (PI) control technique. The FOPI control contains a non-integer order which is preferred over the integer-order control owing to its benefits. It offers extra flexibility in design and demonstrates superior outcomes such as high robustness and effectiveness. The optimal gains of the FOPI controller have been determined using a recent Manta Ray Foraging Optimization (MRFO) algorithm. During the optimization process,… More >

Abstract We propose a mathematical model of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to investigate the transmission and control mechanism of the disease in the community of Nigeria. Using stability theory of differential equations, the qualitative behavior of model is studied. The pandemic indicator represented by basic reproductive number R0 is obtained from the largest eigenvalue of the next-generation matrix. Local as well as global asymptotic stability conditions for the disease-free and pandemic equilibrium are obtained which determines the conditions to stabilize the exponential spread of the disease. Further, we examined this model by using Atangana–Baleanu fractional derivative operator and existence criteria… More >

Practical Application of Fractional Order Controllers to a Delay Thermal System

    Aymen Rhouma1,∗, Sami Hafsi2,†, Faouzi Bouani3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.34, No.5, pp. 305-313, 2019, DOI:10.32604/csse.2019.34.305

Abstract This paper provides an application of Fractional Model Predictive Control (FMPC) and fractional-order Proportional Integral controller (P Iλ) on a thermal system with time delay. The first controller is based on Grünwald-Letnikov’s method to predict the future dynamic behavior of the system. This method consists in replacing the non-integer derivation operator of the adopted system representation by a discrete approximation. Therefore, this controller is developed on the basis of a fractional order model. However, the second controller is founded on an extended version of Hermite-Biehler theorem to determine the complete set stabilizing P Iλ parameters Experiment results onto a time delay… More >

Abstract Normally all real world process in a process industry will have time delay. For those processes with time delays, obtaining satisfactory closed loop performances becomes very difficult. In this work, three interacting cylindrical tank process is considered for study and the objective of the work is to compensate for time delays using smith predictor structure and to maintain the level in the third tank. Input/Output data is generated for the three interacting tank process. It is approximated as Integer First Order Plus Dead Time system (IFOPDT) and Fractional First Order Plus Dead Time system (FFOPDT). Smith predictor based fractional order… More >

    H. S. Shukla1, Mohammad Tamsir1, Vineet K. Srivastava2, Jai Kumar3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.103, No.1, pp. 1-17, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.103.001

Abstract The objective of this article is to carry out an approximate analytical solution of the time fractional order Cauchy-reaction diffusion equation by using a semi analytical method referred as the fractional-order reduced differential transform method (FRDTM). The fractional derivative is illustrated in the Caputo sense. The FRDTM is very efficient and effective powerful mathematical tool for solving wide range of real world physical problems by providing an exact or a closed approximate solution of any differential equation arising in engineering and allied sciences. Four test numerical examples are provided to validate and illustrate the efficiency of FRDTM. More >
