Abstract Among diseases reported worldwidely for sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L) Lam) crop, one of the most frequent is the Sweet potato virus disease (SPVD), caused by sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus (SPCSV) and sweet potato feathery mottle virus (SPFMV) co-infection. In Argentina, there exists the sweet potato chlorotic dwarf (SPCD), a sweet potato disease caused by triple co-infection with SPCSV, SPFMV and sweet potato mild speckling virus(SPMSV). Both diseases cause a synergism between the potyviruses(SPFMV and SPMSV) and the crinivirus (SPCSV). Up to date, studies carried out on the interaction among these three viruses have not described their localization in… More >

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.52, No.6, pp. 11-17, 2018, DOI:10.32604/sv.2018.03893

Abstract The design and optimization of actuators are difficult and critical for the active-passive hybrid vibration control system. In this paper, an electromagnetic actuator model is established based on Ohm’s Law for magnetic circuit considering the leakage flux. The 600N electromagnetic actuators are designed and optimized based on ANSYS simulation according to the engineering request. Its transient characteristics are studied. The effects of different structural parameters on its output force are analyzed. The experimental results show that the structure parameters and output force characteristics of the designed electromagnetic actuators satisfy the practical requirement. More >

RETRACTED: A Hybrid Nonlinear Active Noise Control Method Using Chebyshev Nonlinear Filter

    Bin Chen1, *, Shuyue Yu1, Yan Gao2

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.52, No.4, pp. 21-27, 2018, DOI:10.32604/sv.2018.03974

Abstract Investigations into active noise control (ANC) technique have been conducted with the aim of effective control of the low-frequency noise. In practice, however, the performance of currently available ANC systems degrades due to the effects of nonlinearity in the primary and secondary paths, primary noise and louder speaker. This paper proposes a hybrid control structure of nonlinear ANC system to control the non-stationary noise produced by the rotating machinery on the nonlinear primary path. A fast version of ensemble empirical mode decomposition is used to decompose the non-stationary primary noise into intrinsic mode functions, which are expanded using the second-order… More >

    Min Yue1,1, Jeanne C. Stachowiak1,1,2,2, Arunava Majumdar1,1,3,3

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.1, No.3, pp. 211-220, 2004, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2004.001.211

Abstract Microchips;ontaining arrays of cantilever beams have been used to mechanically detect and quantitatively analyze multiple reactions of DNA hybridization and antigen-antibody binding simultaneously. The reaction-induced deflection of a cantilever beam reflects the interplay between strain energy increase of the beam and the free energy reduction of a reaction, providing an ideal tool for investigating the connection between mechanics and chemistry of biomolecular reactions. Since free energy reduction is common for all reactions, the cantilever array forms a universal platform for label-free detection of various specific biomolecular reactions. A few such reactions and their implications in biology and biotechnology are discussed. More >

A Hybrid Atomistic–Continuum Formulation for Unsteady, Viscous, Incompressible Flows

    H.S. Wijesinghe1, N.G. Hadjiconstantinou2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.5, No.6, pp. 515-526, 2004, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2004.005.515

Abstract We present an implicit hybrid atomisticcontinuum formulation for unsteady, viscous, incompressible flows. The coupling procedure is derived from a domain decomposition method known as the Schwarz alternating method. A dilute gas impulsive Couette flow test problem is used to verify the hybridscheme. Finally, a method to reduce computational costs through limited ensemble averaging is presented. The implicit formulation proposed here is expected to be significantly faster than a time explicit approach based on a compressible formulation for the simulation of low speed flows such as those found in micro- and nano–scale devices. C. Gopinath1, *, M. Rajvikram1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.115, No.3, pp. 359-386, 2018, DOI: 10.3970/cmes.2018.06143

Abstract This research paper proposes a single phase fifteen level inverter for a grid connected PV system. The proposed inverter is also called cascaded asymmetric multilevel inverter. By adopting appropriate hybrid modulation technique improved output voltage is obtained with minimum number of power electronic switches. By reducing the number of gate triggering circuits of the switches, the size and power consumption of the driving circuits can be reduced. The total harmonic distortion of the output of the inverter is improved by this inverter. The proposed inverter developed by cascading a full bridge inverter with modified H bridge multilevel inverter. The validity… More >
