    Effects of Friction and Strain Hardening on ELS Mode II Interlaminar Fracture Test

    Abstract Accurate determination of the interlaminar mode II fracture toughness is much more difficult than that of mode I delamination, due to friction and crack closure. In this paper, A-scan is used to measure the crack growth length of end-loaded split (ELS) test through cyclic unloading and reloading. Interesting hysteresis loops are observed in the experimental load-displacement curve, which has not been fully understood by the existing literature.     Abstract This study investigates the wettability of fluid-solid interactions of interest for oscillating heat pipe (OHP) applications. Measurements were taken using two techniques: the sessile drop method and capillary rise at a vertical plate. Tested surface materials include copper, aluminum, and Teflon PFA. The working fluids tested were water, acetone, R-134a, and HFO-1234yf. A novel low-pressure experimental setup was developed for refrigerant testing. Results show that the refrigerants have significantly lower hysteresis than the water and acetone-based systems, which is thought to lead to better heat transfer in OHP design. More >

    Abstract Utilization of Micro Hydro Power Plant at the Gunung Halu case study type run-off the river is a household use only in the afternoon, around 5 pm until bedtime at about 10 pm.     Hysteresis Compensation of Dynamic Systems Using Neural Networks

    Abstract A neural networks(NN) hysteresis compensator is proposed for dynamic systems. The NN compensator uses the back-stepping scheme for inverting the hysteresis nonlinearity in the feed-forward path. This scheme provides a general step for using NN to determine the dynamic pre-inversion of the reversible dynamic system. A tuning algorithm is proposed for the NN hysteresis compensator which yields a stable closed-loop system. Nonlinear stability proofs are provided to reveal that the tracking error is small. By increasing the gain we can reduce the stability radius to some extent. PI control without hysteresis compensation requires much higher gains to achieve similar performance.… More >

    Numerical Implementation of a Unified Viscoplastic Model for Considering Solder Joint Response under Board-Level Temperature Cycling

    Abstract An implicit integration scheme was developed for simulating the viscoplastic constitutive behavior of Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu solder and programmed into a user material subroutine of the finite element software ANSYS. The numerical procedure first solves the essential state variables by using a three-level iterative procedure, and updates the remaining stress and state variables accordingly. The numerical implementation was applied to consider the responses of solder joints in an electronic assembly under temperature cycling condition. The viscoplastic strain energy density accumulation over one temperature cycle was identified as a feasible parameter for evaluating the thermomechanical reliability of the solder joints. More >
