    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.1, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.076238 - 06 February 2026

Abstract For hypersonic air-breathing vehicles, the V-shaped leading edges (VSLEs) of supersonic combustion ramjet (scramjet) inlets experience complex shock interactions and intense aerodynamic loads. This paper provides a comprehensive review of flow characteristics at the crotch of VSLEs, with particular focus on the transition of shock interaction types and the variation of wall heat flux under different freestream Mach numbers and geometric configurations. The mechanisms governing shock transition, unsteady oscillations, hysteresis, and three-dimensional effects in VSLE flows are first examined. Subsequently, thermal protection strategies aimed at mitigating extreme heating loads are reviewed, emphasizing their relevance to More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.34, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2025, DOI: 10.32604/icces.2025.010544

Abstract Multiphase flows with thermodynamic nonequilibrium effects are encountered in various engineering and natural systems, such as bubbly flows, droplet-laden flows, and phase change processes. To accurately model and simulate such complex flows, a Discrete Boltzmann Method (DBM) is introduced in this report. The DBM is a kinetic-based approach that can capture the dynamics of multiple phases and their interactions, including phase change, mass transfer, and energy exchange. The method is validated through simulations of multiphase flows with phase change, showing good agreement with analytical solutions. The capability of the DBM to handle thermodynamic nonequilibrium effects… More >

    Carmen Rubio1,#, Norma Serrano-GarcíA1,#, Elisa Taddei1, Eduardo CastañEda2, HéCtor Romo1,3, MoiséS Rubio-Osornio4,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.49, No.8, pp. 1391-1412, 2025, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2025.066320 - 29 August 2025

Abstract Rotenone is a lipophilic herbicide extensively utilized in experimental neurodegenerative models because of its capacity to disrupt complex I of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. This inhibition results in reduced ATP synthesis, elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, and mitochondrial malfunction, which instigates oxidative stress and cellular damage, critical elements in neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s disease (PD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In addition to causing direct neuronal injury, rotenone significantly contributes to the activation of glial cells, specifically microglia and astrocytes. Activated microglia assumes a proinflammatory (M1) phenotype, distinguished by the… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.142, No.2, pp. 1021-1107, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.057884 - 27 January 2025

Abstract Disordered ferromagnets with a domain structure that exhibit a hysteresis loop when driven by the external magnetic field are essential materials for modern technological applications. Therefore, the understanding and potential for controlling the hysteresis phenomenon in these materials, especially concerning the disorder-induced critical behavior on the hysteresis loop, have attracted significant experimental, theoretical, and numerical research efforts. We review the challenges of the numerical modeling of physical phenomena behind the hysteresis loop critical behavior in disordered ferromagnetic systems related to the non-equilibrium stochastic dynamics of domain walls driven by external fields. Specifically, using the extended… More >

Multicomponent Discrete Boltzmann Method for Compressible Reactive Flows with Thermodynamic Nonequilibrium Effects

    Chongdong Lin1,2,3,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011631

Abstract In many real-world scenarios, such as high-speed combustion processes and re-entry flows in aerospace vehicles, the flow conditions often involve complex interactions between multiple chemical species and energy modes, leading to thermodynamic nonequilibrium effects. Traditional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods struggle to accurately capture these phenomena due to their simplifying assumptions regarding equilibrium thermodynamics. To solve this issue, the Multicomponent Discrete Boltzmann Method (MDBM) is proposed as a numerical approach to simulate compressible reactive flows with thermodynamic nonequilibrium effects. Based on kinetic theory, this method can capture the complex interactions between different species and energy… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.10, pp. 1475-1487, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.053227 - 02 October 2024

Abstract Background: Alveolar macrophage pyroptosis exacerbates inflammatory lung diseases, and tanshinone IIA is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Thus, understanding how tanshinone IIA affects alveolar macrophage pyroptosis is essential. Methods: NR8383 cells were exposed to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP). We assessed cell viability, pyroptosis, and the expression of triggering receptors expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2), p-β-catenin, β-catenin, and pyroptosis-related factors. We also examined the interaction between tanshinone IIA and TREM2. Results: Co-stimulation with LPS and ATP significantly reduced NR8383 cell viability, increased pyroptosis, and upregulated pyroptosis-associated factors. Treatment with tanshinone IIA mitigated these effects.… More >

Abstract Non-traditional lignocellulosic materials are a significant resource for producing high-value products, including nanocellulose. This work studied the nanocellulose obtention from chemical pulps of the two fast-growing bamboo species, Guadua trinii, and Guadua angustifolia. Chemical pulps were produced by soda-anthraquinone (S) pulping from both autohydrolysis-pretreated (H) and unpretreated bamboo chips. Autohydrolysis-pretreated (SHP) and unpretreated soda-anthraquinone (AQ) (SP) pulps were characterized by yield, Kappa number, alpha, beta, and gamma cellulose, degree of polymerization, water retention value, and crystallinity. The nanocellulose was produced by a sequential chemical oxidation treatment (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl, TEMPO reagent) and mechanical nanofibrillation. Nanocellulose was characterized by carboxylic… More > Graphic Abstract
