    Mao Li1, Xiaobao Tian1, Wentao Jiang1, Qingyuan Wang1, Haidong Fan1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09981

Abstract Poor ductility heavily limits the industrial application of magnesium (Mg) alloys, and pyramidal dislocations are an important deformation mode for ductility enhancement. In this work, discrete dislocation dynamics (DDD) simulations were performed to study the mechanical behavior and dislocation evolution of Mg singlecrystals compressed along c-axis. Especially, basal-transition and cross-slip algorithms of pyramidal dislocations were proposed and introduced in the DDD method. Simulation results show that basaltransition is an important mechanism for the strong strain hardening observed during c-axis compression of Mg single-crystals. Since the basal-transition events are thermally activated, increasing temperature leads to a high strain hardening rate.… More >

    Xueling Fan1,*, Pin Lu1, Xiaochao Jin1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09919

Abstract Ni-based single crystal superalloys have been favored in the high-temperature service zones of aeroengine and gas turbine due to its excellent mechanical properties at high temperature. It is very significant to construct a constitutive model that can accurately capture the mechanical response of Ni-based single crystals for simulation analysis. In this work, a forest dislocation density-based single crystal plasticity constitutive model was developed to capture the mechanical behavior of Ni-based single crystals, including the temperature dependent anomalous yield and tension/compression asymmetry. Firstly, thermally activated cross-slip mechanism was introduced into the hardening model to describe the anomalous yield response. Secondly, the… More >

    Yonggang Zheng1,*, Hanbo Zhang1, Jingyan Li1, Hui Li2, Hongfei Ye1, Hongwu Zhang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.010050

Abstract The reactor pressure vessels (RPV), a typical kind of axisymmetric structures, usually serve under high temperature and pressure conditions. The numerical analysis of the mechanical behaviors of these structures plays a dominant role for their structural design, advanced manufacture and safety assessment in practical engineering applications[1-2]. However, the extremely conditions bring great challenges for the numerical analysis of structures undergo ablation, plastic, damage and even fracture during an accident[3]. Based on the superior performance of peridynamics model in predicting fracture behaviors [4-7], a coupled axisymmetric non-ordinary state-based peridynamics (CA-NOSB-PD) model is proposed in this work to predict the ablation, plastic… More >

Microglial TRPV1 in epilepsy: Is it druggable for new antiepileptic treatment?

JIAO HU, JIALU MO, XIANGLIN CHENG*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.8, pp. 1689-1701, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.029409

Abstract Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases worldwide with a high prevalence and unknown pathogenesis. Further, its control is challenging. It is generally accepted that an imbalance between the excitatory and inhibitory properties of the central nervous system (CNS) leads to a large number of abnormally synchronized neuronal discharges in the brain. Transient receptor potential vanilloid protein type 1 (TRPV1) is a non-selective cation channel that contributes to the regulation of the nervous system and influences the excitability of the nervous system. This includes the release of neurotransmitters, action potential generation due to alterations in ion channels, synaptic… More >

Circulating tumor cells: Biological features and survival mechanisms

    XIAOFENG LI1, JINYANG ZHENG2, JINFENG ZHU3, XIN HUANG4, HUANHUAN ZHU5, BINGDI CHEN6,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.8, pp. 1771-1781, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.028343

Abstract Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are neoplastic cells that are detached from primary tumors and enter circulation. Enumeration and characterization of CTCs are of significance in cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment monitoring. CTC survival in the bloodstream is a limiting step for the development of metastases in distant organs. Recent technological advances, especially in single-cell molecular analyses have uncovered heterogeneous CTC survival mechanisms. Undergoing epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), increasing stem cell-like properties, and forming cell clusters enable CTCs to adapt to the harsh microenvironment of the circulation. Expressing and releasing several immunosuppressive molecules help CTCs escape from anti-cancer immune mechanisms. This review… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-13, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.29

Abstract In this article, the heat, momentum and mass (species) transfer in external boundary layer flow of Casson nanofluid from an isothermal sphere surface is studied theoretically. The effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are incorporated in the model in the presence of both heat and nanoparticle mass transfer. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into highly nonlinear, coupled, multi-degree non-similar partial differential equations consisting of the momentum, energy and concentration equations via appropriate non-similarity transformations. These transformed conservation equations are solved subject to appropriate boundary conditions with a second order accurate finite difference method of the implicit type.… More >

Targeting the “undruggable” cancer driver genes: Ras, myc, and tp53

XINGBO WU, DAN PAN, SHOUYI TANG, YINGQIANG SHEN*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.7, pp. 1459-1472, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.028790

Abstract The term “undruggable” is to describe molecules that are not targetable or at least hard to target pharmacologically. Unfortunately, some targets with potent oncogenic activity fall into this category, and currently little is known about how to solve this problem, which largely hampered drug research on human cancers. Ras, as one of the most common oncogenes, was previously considered “undruggable”, but in recent years, a few small molecules like Sotorasib (AMG-510) have emerged and proved their targeted anti-cancer effects. Further, myc, as one of the most studied oncogenes, and tp53, being the most common tumor suppressor genes, are both considered… More >

Revathi Gadamsettya,*, Venkata Subrahmanyam Sajjab , P. Sudam Sekharc, Dhaneshwar Prasadd,†

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.15, pp. 1-7, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.15.18

Abstract Hydrodynamic lubrication characteristics of asymmetric rollers lubricated by non-Newtonian incompressible Bingham plastic fluid are analyzed in this work. It narrates the qualitative research with the rigid system in which the viscosity of the particular non-Newtonian Bingham plastic substance is considered to become the function of hydrodynamic pressure. The equations considered in this work like equation of motion along with continuity and energy equations are solved numerically using MATLAB after particular analytical steps. Resulting from this particular work, it is identified that there is some notable change in temperatures, pressure, load and traction forces with Newtonian and also non-Newtonian fluids both.… More >

SQUEEZE FILM LUBRICATION OF ASYMMETRIC ROLLERS BY BINGHAM PLASTIC FLUID

Revathi Gadamsettya,*,† , Venkata Subrahmanyam Sajjab, P. Sudam Sekharc, Dhaneshwar Prasadd

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.16, pp. 1-6, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.16.7

Abstract An attempt has been made to investigate hydrodynamic lubrication characteristics of asymmetric roller bearings lubricated by thin fluid film under the operating behavior of line contact for a heavily loaded rigid system for normal squeezing motion with cavitation points. The lubricant follows non-Newtonian incompressible Bingham plastic fluid model where the fluid viscosity is supposed to vary with hydrodynamic pressure . The equations which govern the fluid flow such as continuity and momentum equation are solved first analytically and later numerically using MATLAB. The numerical results are achieved for the velocity, pressure, load, and traction forces by varying different physical parameters… More >
