Abstract Due to the rapid propagation characteristic of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease, manual diagnostic methods cannot handle the large number of infected individuals to prevent the spread of infection. Despite, new automated diagnostic methods have been brought on board, particularly methods based on artificial intelligence using different medical data such as X-ray imaging. Thoracic imaging, for example, produces several image types that can be processed and analyzed by machine and deep learning methods. X-ray imaging materials widely exist in most hospitals and health institutes since they are affordable compared to other imaging machines. Through this paper, we propose a novel Convolutional… More >

    FAISAL HASSAN TOBEIGEI1, REEM M. GAHTANI2, AHMAD SHAIKH2, AMER AL ALI3, NADER KAMELI4,5, HOSSAM KAMLI2, PRASANNA RAJAGOPALAN2,6,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.29, No.5, pp. 305-318, 2021, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.025187

Abstract Malignant melanoma is characterized by both genetic and molecular alterations that activate phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), and RAS/BRAF pathways. In this work, through diversity-based high-throughput virtual screening we identified a lead molecule that selectively targets PI3K and BRAFV600E kinases. Computational screening, Molecular dynamics simulation and MMPBSA calculations were performed. PI3K and BRAFV600E kinase inhibition was done. A375 and G-361 cells were used for in vitro cellular analysis to determine antiproliferative effects, annexin V binding, nuclear fragmentation and cell cycle analysis. Computational screening of small molecules indicates compound CB-006-3 selectively targets PI3KCG (gamma subunit), PI3KCD (delta subunit) and BRAFV600E. Molecular dynamics simulation… More >

In vitro Evaluation of Seed Germination in Twelve Alfalfa Cultivars under Salt Stress

Walid Soufan*, Yaser Hassan Dewir, Nasser A. Al-Suhaibani

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.1, pp. 111-120, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023115

Abstract Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), when exposed to abiotic stress such as salinity, suffers significant losses in yield and productivity. The present study evaluated the salinity tolerance of 12 alfalfa cultivars in vitro using five concentrations of sodium chloride (NaCl), ranging from 0 to 250 mmol L−1 . The results obtained in the current study revealed that the Saudi cultivars, Kasimi and Hassawi, and the German cultivar (Berlin) had the highest salinity tolerance in terms of germination percentage (GP), corrected germination rate index (CGRI), days to reach 50% germination (GT50), and ability to form cotyledonary and true leaves. Pre Screening of Cervical Cancer Through Gradient Boosting Ensemble Learning Method

    S. Priya1,*, N. K. Karthikeyan1, D. Palanikkumar2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 2673-2685, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.028599

Abstract In recent years, cervical cancer is one of the most common diseases which occur in any woman regardless of any age. This is the deadliest disease since there were no symptoms shown till it is diagnosed to be the last stage. For women at a certain age, it is better to have a proper screening for cervical cancer. In most underdeveloped nations, it is very difficult to have frequent scanning for cervical cancer. Data Mining and machine learning methodologies help widely in finding the important causes for cervical cancer. The proposed work describes a multi-class classification approach is implemented for… More >

A Study on Cascade R-CNN-Based Dangerous Goods Detection Using X-Ray Image

    Sang-Hyun Lee*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 4245-4260, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026012

Abstract X-ray inspection equipment is divided into small baggage inspection equipment and large cargo inspection equipment. In the case of inspection using X-ray scanning equipment, it is possible to identify the contents of goods, unauthorized transport, or hidden goods in real-time by-passing cargo through X-rays without opening it. In this paper, we propose a system for detecting dangerous objects in X-ray images using the Cascade Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Cascade R-CNN) model, and the data used for learning consists of dangerous goods, storage media, firearms, and knives. In addition, to minimize the overfitting problem caused by the lack of data to… More >

Abstract Fusarium wilt, a disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp batatas (Fob) is an important disease in sweet potato production. Using endophytic bacteria for biological control of sweet potato diseases is one of the important ways. A Bacillus subtilis with antagonistic effect on Fusarium wilt of sweet potato was isolated from soil by confrontation culture. According to the biological characteristics, 16S rDNA sequence analysis, and physiological and biochemical analysis, the Bacillus subtilis HAAS01 was named. A pot experiment was conducted for the biological control experiment of strain HAAS01, and the endogenous hormone content, antioxidant enzyme activity, soluble protein content, and related… More >

Screening and evaluation of chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) genotypes for waterlogging tolerance at seedling stage

MD. REZWAN MOLLA1,2,4, MD. MOTIAR ROHMAN2,*, MD. ROBYUL ISLAM1,2, MIRZA HASANUZZAMAN3,*, LUTFUL HASSAN4

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.7, pp. 1613-1627, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.019243

Abstract Waterlogging is an illustrious abiotic stress and the constrictions it enforces on plant roots have negative effects on growth and development. This study was undertaken to investigate waterlogging stress tolerant potential in chilli (Capsicum annum L.) genotypes through evaluating morphological, physiological, biochemical and anatomical parameters. Thirty-five days old seedlings of 10 chilli genotypes were exposed to waterlogging stress maintaining water height 3–5 cm over the soil surface artificially for three days. This duration (36–38 DAE) was termed as waterlogging period, and subsequent withdrawal of waterlogging condition (39–45 DAE) was regarded as a recovery phase. Based on their survival performance, two… More >

    Zhongxiang Chen1, Huijuan Zha1, Zhiquan Shu2, Juyi Ye3, Jiaji Pan1,4,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.2, pp. 841-854, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.017574

Abstract This study aims to improve control schemes for COVID-19 by a numerical model with estimation of parameters. We established a multi-level and multi-objective nonlinear SEIDR model to simulate the virus transmission. The early spread in Japan was adopted as a case study. The first 96 days since the infection were divided into five stages with parameters estimated. Then, we analyzed the trend of the parameter value, age structure ratio, and the defined PCR test index (standardization of the scale of PCR tests). It was discovered that the self-healing rate and confirmed rate were linear with the age structure ratio and… More >
