Internet Use and Mental Health among Older Adults in China: Beneficial for Those Who Lack of Intergenerational Emotional Support or Suffering from Chronic Diseases?

    Yuxin Wang1,2,*, Jia Shi1,2

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 69-80, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.044641

Abstract In the 21st century, the rapid growth of the Internet has presented a significant avenue for China to respond actively to the aging population and promote the “Healthy China” strategy in an orderly manner. This study uses panel data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) to empirically investigate the influence of Internet use on the mental health of older adults, particularly those who lack intergenerational emotional support and suffer from chronic diseases. This study employs a multi-period difference-in-differences (DID) method and a two-stage instrumental variable approach to address the endogenous problem. Results show that Internet use has… More >

    Arslan Akram1,2, Imran Khan1, Javed Rashid2,3, Mubbashar Saddique4,*, Muhammad Idrees4, Yazeed Yasin Ghadi5, Abdulmohsen Algarni6

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.1, pp. 1311-1328, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.040512

Abstract Algorithms for steganography are methods of hiding data transfers in media files. Several machine learning architectures have been presented recently to improve stego image identification performance by using spatial information, and these methods have made it feasible to handle a wide range of problems associated with image analysis. Images with little information or low payload are used by information embedding methods, but the goal of all contemporary research is to employ high-payload images for classification. To address the need for both low- and high-payload images, this work provides a machine-learning approach to steganography image classification that uses Curvelet transformation to… More >

    K. Akilandeswari1, Nithya Rekha Sivakumar2,*, Hend Khalid Alkahtani3, Shakila Basheer3, Sara Abdelwahab Ghorashi2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.1, pp. 1189-1205, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.034815

Abstract In this present time, Human Activity Recognition (HAR) has been of considerable aid in the case of health monitoring and recovery. The exploitation of machine learning with an intelligent agent in the area of health informatics gathered using HAR augments the decision-making quality and significance. Although many research works conducted on Smart Healthcare Monitoring, there remain a certain number of pitfalls such as time, overhead, and falsification involved during analysis. Therefore, this paper proposes a Statistical Partial Regression and Support Vector Intelligent Agent Learning (SPR-SVIAL) for Smart Healthcare Monitoring. At first, the Statistical Partial Regression Feature Extraction model is used… More >

Automatic SOC Equalization Strategy of Energy Storage Units with DC Microgrid Bus Voltage Support

    Jingjing Tian1, Shenglin Mo1,*, Feng Zhao1, Xiaoqiang Chen2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.2, pp. 439-459, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.029956

Abstract In this paper, an improved sag control strategy based on automatic SOC equalization is proposed to solve the problems of slow SOC equalization and excessive bus voltage fluctuation amplitude and offset caused by load and PV power variations in a stand-alone DC microgrid. The strategy includes primary and secondary control. Among them, the primary control suppresses the DC microgrid voltage fluctuation through the Ⅰ and Ⅱ section control, and the secondary control aims to correct the P-U curve of the energy storage system and the PV system, thus reducing the steady-state bus voltage excursion. The simulation results demonstrate that the… More >

A Temporary Frequency Response Strategy Using a Voltage Source-Based Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator and Energy Storage Systems

    Baogang Chen1, Fenglin Miao2,*, Jing Yang1, Chen Qi2, Wenyan Ji1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.2, pp. 541-555, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028327

Abstract Energy storage systems (ESS) and permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) are speculated to be able to exhibit frequency regulation capabilities by adding differential and proportional control loops with different control objectives. The available PMSG kinetic energy and charging/discharging capacities of the ESS were restricted. To improve the inertia response and frequency control capability, we propose a short-term frequency support strategy for the ESS and PMSG. To this end, the weights were embedded in the control loops to adjust the participation of the differential and proportional controls based on the system frequency excursion. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy was… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.48, No.1, pp. 77-95, 2024, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.039265

Abstract Today’s world depends on the Internet to meet all its daily needs. The usage of the Internet is growing rapidly. The world is using the Internet more frequently than ever. The hazards of harmful attacks have also increased due to the growing reliance on the Internet. Hazards to cyber security are actions taken by someone with malicious intent to steal data, destroy computer systems, or disrupt them. Due to rising cyber security concerns, cyber security has emerged as the key component in the fight against all online threats, forgeries, and assaults. A device capable of identifying network irregularities and cyber-attacks… More >

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 571-593, 2023, DOI:10.32604/chd.2024.048939

Abstract The second edition of the expert consensus on pediatric nutrition was formed based on a global update of pediatric nutrition guidelines or consensus worldwide, the management of congenital heart disease, and the results of multi-center clinical nutrition research for congenital heart disease following the first Chinese consensus edition of 2016. The consensus was also shaped by the results of three discussion sessions and two questionnaires conducted by the 13-member collaboration group. This process was informed by both clinical guidelines and expert consensus. The quality of literature, both in English and Chinese, and the level of recommendations were evaluated using the… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 339-351, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.030887

Abstract Background: Invasive breast carcinoma (BRCA) is associated with poor prognosis and high risk of mortality. Therefore, it is critical to identify novel biomarkers for the prognostic assessment of BRCA. Methods: The expression data of polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) in BRCA and the corresponding clinical information were extracted from TCGA and GEO databases. PLK1 expression was validated in diverse breast cancer cell lines by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blotting. Single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) was performed to evaluate immune infiltration in the BRCA microenvironment, and the random forest (RF) and support vector machine (SVM) algorithms… More >
