    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.5, pp. 933-941, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.042581

Abstract MicroRNA (miR)-200b-3p has been associated with many tumors, but its involvement in pituitary adenoma is unclear. This study investigated the molecular mechanism underlying miR-200b-3p regulation in pituitary adenomas to provide a theoretical basis for treatment. Bioinformatics was used to analyze pituitary adenoma-related genes and screen new targets related to RECK and miRNA. As well, the relationship between miR-200b-3p and RECK protein was verified using a double-luciferase reporter gene assay. The expression of miR-200b-3p in clinical samples was analyzed by in situ hybridization. Transfection of the miR-200b-3p inhibitor and small interfering-RECK (si-RECK) was verified by qPCR. GH3 cell viability and proliferation… More >

    Dawei Ruan1, Mingwei Hu1,2,3,4,5,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.1, pp. 821-844, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.048392

Abstract The specialized equipment utilized in long-line tunnel engineering is evolving towards large-scale, multifunctional, and complex orientations. The vibration caused by the high-frequency units during regular operation is supported by the foundation of the units, and the magnitude of vibration and the operating frequency fluctuate in different engineering contexts, leading to variations in the dynamic response of the foundation. The high-frequency units yield significantly diverse outcomes under different startup conditions and times, resulting in failure to meet operational requirements, influencing the normal function of the tunnel, and causing harm to the foundation structure, personnel, and property in severe cases. Guogang Gao1, Lei Xu1, Tianpeng Huang2,*, Xuliang Zhao1, Lihua Huang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.1, pp. 305-323, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.047899

Abstract The Rotary Inverted Pendulum (RIP) is a widely used underactuated mechanical system in various applications such as bipedal robots and skyscraper stabilization where attitude control presents a significant challenge. Despite the implementation of various control strategies to maintain equilibrium, optimally tuning control gains to effectively mitigate uncertain nonlinearities in system dynamics remains elusive. Existing methods frequently rely on extensive experimental data or the designer’s expertise, presenting a notable drawback. This paper proposes a novel tracking control approach for RIP, utilizing a Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) in combination with a reduced-order observer. Initially, the RIP system is mathematically modeled using the… More >

Abstract Background: Puerarin (Pue) has been reported to be a natural active ingredient with multiple antifibrotic properties. This work aimed at exploring the function of Pue in oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) treatment. Methods: Human oral mucosa fibroblasts (hOMF) were induced with transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-β1) and intervened with Pue. Expressions of fibrosis-related markers were analyzed by Western blot and IF staining. Cell viability was characterized by the CCK-8 assay. Expressions of miR-30 family members were quantified by qRT-PCR. The correlation between fibroblast activation protein (FAP) and miR-30 family expression was evaluated by the Pearson correlation coefficient. Bioinformatics prediction and dual-luciferase… More > Graphic Abstract

Carrageenan Fiber Prepared by a New Process Route of Ba2+ Ion Pre-Crosslinking in the Spinning Solution

    Liting Jia1, Xiao Han1, Cuixia Qiao2, Gang Zhao2, Yanzhi Xia1, Zhixin Xue1,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.3, pp. 427-441, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.044310

Abstract Ba2+ pre-crosslinked carrageenan fiber (Ba/CAF) was prepared by adding a small amount of Ba2+ to the carrageenan (CA) solution as the spinning solution. Ba/CAF-n/A, Ba/CAF-n/B and Ba/CAF-n/C were prepared with ethanol solution (combine A), high concentration BaCl2 solution (combine B) and low concentration BaCl2 solution (combine C), as coagulation bath and stretch bath, respectively. The combination of coagulation bath and stretch bath suitable for Ba2+ pre-crosslinking wet spinning was screened. The results showed that Ba2+ can induce the birefringence of the CA molecular chain, and the Ba2+ pre-crosslinking effect is the best when the CA mass fraction is 8.0 wt%.… More > Graphic Abstract

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.26, No.3, pp. 221-228, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2024.030209

Abstract Objective: This study was conducted to explore the relationships among sedentary behavior (SB), electronic product addiction (EPA), and depression (D) in adolescents during the COVID-19 epidemic. Methods: A total of 604 adolescents (including 309 girls and 295 boys aged 12–18) were selected from Qufu City, Shandong Province, China for three rounds of investigation. The model was constructed using AMOS 23.0 software, and cross-lagged analysis was conducted. Results: SB at T1 can significantly positively predict SB and EPA at T2 (p < 0.05). EPA at T1 can significantly positively predict SB and D at T2 (p < 0.05). Physical activity level… More >

Study on Flame-retardant Mechanism of Epoxy Resin containing Polyvinylphenylsilsesquioxane

    JIANGBO WANG*

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.36, No.4, pp. 381-389, 2019, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2019.36.04.7

Abstract In this study, a novel flame retardant polyvinylphenylsilsesquioxane (PVP) was added into epoxy resin (EP) to prepare EP/PVP (FREP) composites. The results of cone calorimeter measurement showed that in comparison with virgin EP, the peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR) of FREP were reduced by 27.3% and 10.4%, respectively. Moreover, the thermal degradation behavior of FREP was studied by the Kissinger and Ozawa-Flynn-Wall methods. The results suggested that the addition of PVP greatly enhanced the thermal stability of EP in the final stage, which could be attributed to that the branched silicone with vinyl and phenyl… More >

SOBHA KOTA*, RATNAKUMARI ANANTHA, VAYUNANDANA RAO GOVADA, PRADEEP DUMPALA

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.40, No.3-4, pp. 285-303, 2023, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2023.40.3-4.10

Abstract The exoskeleton of marine shrimp contains a natural, biocompatible polymer chitin, which is dumped as a waste. The study proposes the sustainable single-pot-extraction of chitosan from the waste and its use in the fabrication of wound-dressings, and thus leverage its piezoelectric, antioxidant, hypoglycaemic and medicinal properties in wound-healing. The Fourier transform infrared spectrum revealed that marine chitosan contains functional groups with N-O, O-H, and CO stretching. Scanning electron micrographs demonstrated the spherical and mesoporous structures of the extracted chitosan. X-ray diffraction analysis showed a semi-crystalline phase of chitosan particles with a mean size of 28.9 nm. The film prepared with… More >
