    Abstract This article discussed flow and temperature characteristics of the catalytic combustion furnace based the combustion of lean natural gas-air mixtures in catalytic honeycomb monoliths. Catalytic combustion as a developing technology could make the pollutant emissions (CO and NOX) to near zero. Within the porous structure, the reactions then take place on the catalytic sites.     Abstract Heat exchangers are key components of most power conversion systems, a few industrial sectors can particularly benefit from high temperature heat exchangers. Examples include conventional aerospace applications, advanced nuclear power generation systems, and high efficiency stationary and mobile modular fossil fuel to shaft power/electricity conversion systems. This paper provides a review of high temperature heat exchangers in terms of build materials, general design, manufacturing techniques, and operating parameters for the selected applications. Challenges associated with conventional and advanced fabrication technologies of high temperature heat exchangers are discussed.     Abstract To understand the effects of filler-asphalt ratio on different properties of lignin and polyester fiber reinforced shape memory polyurethane (SMPU)/styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) composite modified asphalt mortar (PSAM), as well as to reveal the reinforcing and toughening mechanisms of lignin and polyester fibers on PSAM, SMPU, SBS and mineral powder were first utilized to prepare PSAM. Then the conventional, rheological and anticracking properties of lignin fiber reinforced PSAM (LFAM) and polyester fiber reinforced PSAM (PFAM) at different filler-asphalt ratios were characterized.     Abstract This paper sums up the determining analysis of the measuring location of Trefl using a thermocouple during the thermography tests. Laboratory temperature distribution testing methods, analysis of value and location of Trefl measurement are explained in this paper. The heat source is two halogen lamps of 500 watts each fitted at a distance of 30–50 cm. Noises appearing during testing of thermography are corrected with measured Trefl value.     Abstract The drying kinetics of three varieties of cocoa beans (N38, F and WA) at 40, 50 and 60 degree centigrade was investigated experimentally. The three different varieties were dried using laboratory air oven UF Memmert and the moisture content determined according to AOAC standards. The results show that drying processes occur mainly in the range of the falling-rate period and the drying rates were observed to be faster at higher drying temperature.     Abstract The natural convection of the nanofluids from a vertical accelerated plate in the presence of the radiation flux and magnetic field is observed in this study. Initially, the plate with a temperature higher than the temperature of nanofluids is at rest and then it accelerates moving upward and then the wall temperature decreases. The governing unsteady equations are solved by the explicit method based on the forward finite difference.     Abstract Isosorbide is a multi-purpose chemical that can be produced from renewable resources. Specifically, it has been investigated as a replacement for toxic bisphenol A (BPA) in the production of polycarbonate (PC). In this study, the synthesis of isosorbide by sorbitol dehydration using a cerium-based catalyst derived from calcined cerium (IV) sulfate (300°C, 400°C, 450°C, 500°C, and 650°C) was investigated. The reaction occurred in a high-pressure reactor containing nitrogen gas. Advanced instrumental techniques were applied to analyze the characteristics of the calcined catalyst.
