    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.7, pp. 3001-3023, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.026604

Abstract To achieve optimal recovery and value-added utilisation of cellulose in peanut shells, the cellulose in peanut shells was first extracted using the sodium hydroxide-sodium chlorite method. Then, cellulose hydrogel was prepared by graft copolymerisation using N, N’-methylenebisacrylamide as the cross-linking agent, sodium persulfate as the initiator, and acrylic acid as the monomer. Orthogonal optimisation experiments were designed to obtain optimal process parameters for hydrogel preparation with the cellulose dosage of 0.40 g, initiator dosage of 0.20 g, polymerisation temperature of 70°C, cross-linking agent of 0.25 g, and monomer dosage of 3.0 mL. The effect of initiator dosage on hydrogel synthesis was… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract In this study, the effect of sintering temperature and the addition of kaolin, a sintering agent, on the microscopic, phase, and mechanical properties of ceramics were investigated using secondary aluminum dross (SAD) as the main component in the manufacturing of ceramics. The basic phases of the ceramics were Al2O3, MgAl2O4, NaAl11O17, and SiO2 without the addition of kaolin. The diffraction peaks of MgAl2O4, NaAl11O17, and SiO2 kept decreasing while those of Al2O3 kept increasing with an increase in temperature. In addition, the increase in temperature promoted the growth of the grains. The grains were uniform in size and regular in… More > Graphic Abstract

Carbon Capture from Flue Gas Based on the Combination of Non-Contact Hydrophobic Porous Ceramic Membrane and Bubbling Absorption

Yongde Luo, Jiang Jin*, Hua Zhang*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.7, pp. 3143-3153, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027396

Abstract A hybrid system combined with a non-contact membrane and bubbling absorption is proposed to capture CO2 from flue gas. The non-contact way of membrane and liquid absorbent effectively avoids the reduction of gas diffusion flux through the membrane. High-porosity ceramic membranes in hybrid systems are used for gas-solid separation in fuel gas treatment. Due to the high content of H2O and cement dust in the flue gas of the cement plant, the membrane is hydrophobically modified by polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to improve its anti-water, anti-fouling, and self-cleaning performances. The results show that the diffusion flux of CO2 through the membrane is… More >

    Mochamad Chalid1,*, Gifrandy Gustiraharjo1, Azizah Intan Pangesty1, Alyssa Adyandra1, Yudan Whulanza2, Sugeng Supriadi2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.7, pp. 3043-3056, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.026788

Abstract Polyethylene glycol (PEG) was added at different concentrations to the blend of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) and poly(D,L-lactic acid)(PDLLA) to tailor the properties. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement showed that all blends were miscible due to shifting a single glass transition temperature into a lower temperature for increasing PEG content. The DSC, FTIR, and XRD results implied the crystallinity enhancement for PEG content until 8 wt%, then decreased at 12 wt% PEG. The XRD result indicated the homo crystalline phase formation in all blends and no stereocomplex crystal. The in vitro degradation study indicated that PEG content is proportional to… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract It is of considerable significance to develop efficient and environmentally friendly machinery lubricant additives because of the increasing depletion of petrochemical resources and severe environmental problems. Herein, we proposed a facile strategy to synthesize a multifunctional vegetable oil-based lubricant via the lignin derivative vanillin coupled to amine and diethyl phosphite to produce a lubricating additive with both extreme pressure and antioxidant properties. Compared with pure tung oil, the lubricating and antioxidant performance of tung oil is significantly improved after adding additives. Adding the 1.0 wt% additive to the tung oil reduced the friction wear coefficient and the volume, and the… More > Graphic Abstract
