Effect of the Wick Deflection Angles on Heat Transfer Characteristics for the Flat LHP

    Zhuohuan Hu1, Sixian Sun1, Chengwei Yuan1, Yan Cao2, Jiayin Xu1,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.041837

Abstract Loop Heat Pipe (LHP) is an efficient two-phase heat transfer device, which can be used in waste heat recovery, electronics cooling, aerospace and other fields. The wick, the core component of LHP, plays an important role in its start-up and operation. In this paper, the wick fabricated by 3D printing technology had uniform and interconnected pores. In the experiment, the position of the parallel vapor removal grooves was always fixed towards the vapor outlet. When the cylindrical wick was placed in the evaporator, the rotation angle relative to its central axis could be changed, thus changing the number and shape… More >

Sayyid Kamran Hussain1, Ali Haider Khan2,*, Malek Alrashidi3, Sajid Iqbal4, Qazi Mudassar Ilyas4, Kamran Shah5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.041722

Abstract As ocular computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) tools become more widely accessible, many researchers are developing deep learning (DL) methods to aid in ocular disease (OHD) diagnosis. Common eye diseases like cataracts (CATR), glaucoma (GLU), and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are the focus of this study, which uses DL to examine their identification. Data imbalance and outliers are widespread in fundus images, which can make it difficult to apply many DL algorithms to accomplish this analytical assignment. The creation of effcient and reliable DL algorithms is seen to be the key to further enhancing detection performance. Using the analysis of images of… More >

Abstract The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has severely disrupted both human life and the health care system. Timely diagnosis and treatment have become increasingly important; however, the distribution and size of lesions vary widely among individuals, making it challenging to accurately diagnose the disease. This study proposed a deep-learning disease diagnosis model based on weakly supervised learning and clustering visualization (W_CVNet) that fused classification with segmentation. First, the data were preprocessed. An optimizable weakly supervised segmentation preprocessing method (O-WSSPM) was used to remove redundant data and solve the category imbalance problem. Second, a deep-learning fusion method was used for feature extraction… More >

Abstract A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a critical device for diesel engine exhaust products treatment. When using active-regeneration purification methods, on the one hand, a spatially irregular gas flow can produce relatively high local temperatures, potentially resulting in damage to the carrier; On the other hand, the internal temperature field can also undergo significant changes contributing to increase this risk. This study explores the gas flow uniformity in a DPF carrier and the related temperature behavior under drop-to-idle (DTI) condition by means of bench tests. It is shown that the considered silicon carbide carrier exhibits good flow uniformity, with a… More >

Influence of the Blade Bifurcated Tip on the Correlation between Wind Turbine Wheel Vibration and Aerodynamic Noise

    Baohua Li1, Yuanjun Dai1,2,*, Jingan Cui1, Cong Wang1, Kunju Shi1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029583

Abstract To reduce the vibration and aerodynamic noise of wind turbines, a new design is proposed relying on a blade with a bifurcated apex or tip. The performances of this wind turbine wheel are tested at the entrance of a DC (directaction) wind tunnel for different blade tip angles and varying centrifugal force and aerodynamic loads. The test results indicate that the bifurcated apex can reduce the vibration acceleration amplitude and the vibration frequency of the wind wheel. At the same time, the bifurcated apex can lower the maximum sound pressure level corresponding to the rotating fundamental frequency of the wind… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029304

Abstract Cementing carbonate reservoirs is generally a difficult task. The so-called thixotropic cement slurry has gained considerable attention in this regard as it can help to fix some notable problems. More precisely, it can easily fill the leakage layer; moreover, its gelling strength can grow rapidly when pumping stops, thereby increasing the resistance to gas channeling, effectively preventing this undesired phenomenon in many cases. High-temperature thixotropic cement slurry systems, however, are still in an early stage of development and additional research is needed to make them a viable option. In the present study, using a self-developed composite high-temperature thixotropic additive as… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029292

Abstract Flow channels with a variable cross-section are important components of piping system and are widely used in various fields of engineering. Using a finite element method and modal analysis theory, flow-induced noise, mode shapes, and structure-borne noise in such systems are investigated in this study. The results demonstrate that the maximum displacement and equivalent stress are located in the part with variable cross-sectional area. The average excitation force on the flow channel wall increases with the flow velocity. The maximum excitation force occurs in the range of 0–20 Hz, and then it decreases gradually in the range of 20–1000 Hz.… More >

    Fulai Cao1,*, Yanpu Chao1,*, Hao Yi2,3, Shuai Lu1, Chengshui Guo4

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029243

Abstract The properties of droplets produced by existing on-demand injection systems are typically determined by the nozzle diameter, i.e., only droplets with size larger than this diameter can be obtained. To solve this problem, a system for electric field-driven droplet injection and deposition was developed, and the related performances were compared with those of a standard pneumatic system. The results show that the diameter of droplets generated accordingly can be significantly smaller than the nozzle diameter. In particular, the effects of frequency and duty ratio on the number of droplets were studied by assuming microcrystalline wax as work material. A deposition… More >

On the Effect of Mist Flow on the Heat Transfer Performances of a Three-CopperSphere Configuration

Karema A. Hamad*, Yasser A. Mahmood

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029049

Abstract The cooling of a (pebble bed) spent fuel in a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) is adversely affected by an increase in the temperature of the used gas (air). To investigate this problem, a configuration consisting of three copper spheres arranged in tandem subjected to a forced mist flow inside a cylindrical channel is considered. The heat transfer coefficients and related variations as a function of Reynolds number are investigated accordingly. The experimental results show that when compared to those with only airflow, the heat transfer coefficient of the spherical elements with mist flow (j = 112 kg/m2 hr, Re =… More >

    Linjuan Zeng1, Daogang Cai1, Yunhai Zhao1,*, Changqing Ye1, Chengcheng Luo2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026190

Abstract The flow behavior of shale gas horizontal wells is relatively complex, and this should be regarded as the main reason for which conventional pipe flow models are not suitable to describe the related dynamics. In this study, numerical simulations have been conducted to determine the gas-liquid distribution in these wells. In particular, using the measured flow pressure data related to 97 groups of shale gas wells as a basis, 9 distinct pipe flow models have been assessed, and the models displaying a high calculation accuracy for different water-gas ratio (WGR) ranges have been identified. The results show that: (1) The… More >
