Leonid Plotnikov is a Professor at the Department of Turbines and Engines at the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin. The area of scientific interests is the study of gas dynamics and heat transfer of stationary and pulsating gas flows in various technical systems (mainly piston engines and turbomachines) based on experimental studies. Leonid Plotnikov has been engaged in scientific activities for more than 15 years, has more than 200 publications and 11 patents, and is a co-author of 3 monographs. He completed internships at high-tech industrial enterprises (ABB Turbo Systems, Ural Diesel Engine Plant and others). Leonid Plotnikov is a reviewer for the journals Applied Energy, Energy, Thermal Science and Engineering Progress, International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, International Journal of Engine Research, Thermal science, Axioms, Energies, Mathematics and others.

Konstantin Busov is a senior researcher at the Laboratory of phase transitions and nonequilibrium processes at The Institute of Thermophysics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The area of scientific interests is the investigation of the dynamic of boiling-up of superheated liquids. Konstantin Busov has 90 publications.

Summary

Today, energy is a key sector for ensuring the livelihoods of people and the environment, the development of industry and the economy around the world. Therefore, improving mechanical engineering and energy is an extremely urgent and promising task for science, engineering and technology. It is important to understand that further research is needed both in the field of traditional energy (especially in matters of energy saving and ecology), and in the field of alternative and hybrid energy (especially in matters of energy storage, solar and wind energy) for the harmonious development of energy technologies. In turn, this will allow us to achieve sustainable and long-term development of all humanity. That is why it is necessary to pay as much attention as possible to various studies in the field of hydro and gas dynamics, heat and mass transfer in mechanical engineering and energy.

The purpose of the special issue is to collect scientific articles reflecting the latest achievements in the field of hydro and gas dynamics, heat and mass transfer, mainly for the development of complex technical devices in mechanical engineering and energy technologies.

New, high-quality publications and reviews are welcome. Particular attention should be paid to scientific novelty and practical application of research results.
