Summary
Additive manufacturing (AM), commonly known as 3D printing has transformed polymer science and technology, enabling unprecedented design freedom and functionality in applications from aerospace to biomedicine. This Special Issue explores the cutting-edge intersection of polymer materials and AM technologies, addressing the urgent need for sustainable, high-performance solutions in a rapidly evolving industrial landscape. Its importance lies in advancing material-process synergies to meet global challenges like resource efficiency and customisation demands.
The aim is to showcase pioneering research that pushes the boundaries of polymer-based AM, with a scope encompassing novel materials, process optimization, and innovative applications. We seek to bridge fundamental science with practical outcomes, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Suggested themes include, but are not limited to:
• Development of high-strength, lightweight polymer-based composites for AM.
• Sustainable polymer- and bio-based materials in 3D printing.
• Next-generation smart materials for AM systems and applications.
• Multi-material and hybrid AM techniques for enhanced functionality.
• Process-property relationships in polymer-based AM systems.
We invite contributions from researchers and engineers to explore next-generation innovations in additive manufacturing (AM) of polymers, backed by robust experimental and theoretical studies. Authors are encouraged to submit original research articles and comprehensive reviews that push the boundaries of the field. This Special Issue aims to lay the groundwork for future AM-driven advancements in polymer science, fostering impactful, high-quality research that propels the discipline forward and shapes the future of polymer technology.
