Summary

Polymer materials are central to advancing sustainable technologies and addressing global challenges in healthcare, environmental protection, and industrial innovation. The development of multifunctional polymeric materials with enhanced mechanical, biological, and physicochemical properties has become a rapidly expanding research area. Recent advances in bioengineering, green synthesis, nanotechnology, and polymer processing have enabled the design of functional polymers and polymer composites with improved performance, biodegradability, and environmental compatibility.


This Special Issue aims to present recent advances in the synthesis, characterization, processing, fabrication, and applications of sustainable multifunctional polymers and polymer-based composites. It welcomes original research and review articles focusing on structure–property relationships, polymer modification, functional polymer systems, nanocomposites, and innovative fabrication technologies that improve material performance for biomedical, agricultural, environmental, and industrial applications. Emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary approaches integrating biotechnology, materials science, and polymer engineering to accelerate the development of next-generation functional polymeric materials.


Suggested themes include bioinspired and biodegradable polymers, functional polymer composites and nanocomposites, microbial and enzyme-assisted polymer synthesis, smart and stimuli-responsive polymers, polymer processing and advanced manufacturing (including 3D/4D printing), antimicrobial and controlled-release polymer systems, sustainable packaging materials, biomedical polymers, and environmentally friendly polymer technologies.
