    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 61-81, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.021590 - 02 August 2022

Abstract In this paper, the effects of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation on the stagnation–point flow of a micropolar fluid over a permeable stretching sheet with suction and injection are analyzed and discussed. A suitable similarity transformation is used to convert the governing nonlinear partial differential equations into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically by a fourth–order Runge–Kutta method. It is found that the linear fluid velocity decreases with the enhancement of the porosity, boundary, and suction parameters. Conversely, it increases with the micropolar and injection parameters. The angular velocity More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 51-60, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.021499 - 02 August 2022

Abstract At present, methods for treating tertiary oil recovery wastewater via electro-coagulation are still in their early stage of development. In this study, a device for electro-coagulation wastewater treatment was built and tested in an oil field. The effects that the initial pH value, electrode type, and connection mode have on the coagulation and separation effect were assessed by measuring the mass fraction and turbidity of oil. The results have shown that when the electro-coagulation method is used, the effectiveness of the treatment can be significantly increased in neutral pH conditions (pH = 7), in acidic conditions, and More >

    Xiaowei Nie1, Lihui Ma2,*, Yiqiu Xu3, Dong Sun2, Weibo Zheng2, Liang Zhou2, Xiaodong Wang2, Xiaohan Zhang2, Weijia Dong2, Yunfei Li2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 37-50, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.021118 - 02 August 2022

Abstract An experimental study was conducted to investigate the properties of stratified regular or wavy two-phase flow in two parallel separators located after a manifold. A total of 103 experiments with various gas and liquid velocity combinations in three inlet pipes were conducted, including 77 groups of outlet pipe resistance symmetry and 26 groups of outlet pipe resistance asymmetry trials. The experimental results have revealed that when the gas-liquid flow rate is low, the degree of uneven splitting is high, and “extreme” conditions are attained. When the superficial gas velocity is greater than that established in More >

Effect of Refrigerant on the Performance of a C3/MRC Liquefaction Process

Xiao Wu*, Zhaoting Wang, Longfei Dong, Yanping Xin, Tianshu Yu

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 25-36, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.020953 - 02 August 2022

Abstract The Mixed Refrigerant (MR) component is an important factor influencing the performances of natural gas liquefaction processes. However, there is a lack of systematic research about the utilization of propane pre-cooled (C3/MRC). In this paper, this mixed refrigerant cycle liquefaction process is simulated using the HYSYS software and the main influential parameters involved in the process are varied to analyze their influence on the liquefaction rate and power consumption. The results show that an effective way for lowering the power consumption of the compressor consists of reducing the flow through the compressor through optimization of More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 261-271, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.020076 - 02 August 2022

Abstract A three-dimensional model for the numerical simulation of casing-cement behavior is used to investigate residual strength in the perforated casing of ultra deep wells. The influence of the hole diameter, hole density and phase angle on the residual strength of the casing under non-uniform stress and fracturing conditions is revealed through the consideration of different perforation parameters. It is shown that the residual strength of the casing increases with the hole diameter and periodically changes with the hole density; the phase angle is the main factor that affects the residual strength of the perforated casing, More >

Abstract An uncertainty analysis method is proposed for the assessment of the residual strength of a casing subjected to wear and non-uniform load in a deep well. The influence of casing residual stress, out-of-roundness and non-uniform load is considered. The distribution of multi-source parameters related to the residual anti extrusion strength and residual anti internal pressure strength of the casing after wear are determined using the probability theory. Considering the technical casing of X101 well in Xinjiang Oilfield as an example, it is shown that the randomness of casing wear depth, formation elastic modulus and formation More >

Numerical Simulation of Two-Phase Flow in Glutenite Reservoirs for Optimized Deployment in Horizontal Wells

    Yuhui Zhou1,2,3,*, Shichang Ju4, Qijun Lyu4, Hongfei Chen4, Xuebiao Du4, Aiping Zheng4, Wenshun Chen4, Ning Li4

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 245-259, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.019971 - 02 August 2022

Abstract It is known that the pore media characteristics of glutenite reservoirs are different from those of conventional sandstone reservoirs. Low reservoir permeability and naturally developed microfractures make water injection in this kind of reservoir very difficult. In this study, new exploitation methods are explored. Using a real glutenite reservoir as a basis, a three-dimensional fine geological model is elaborated. Then, combining the model with reservoir performance information, and through a historical fitting analysis, the saturation abundance distribution of remaining oil in the reservoir is determined. It is shown that, using this information, predictions can be More >

Assessment of Different Optimization Algorithms for a Thermal Conduction Problem

    Mohammad Reza Hajmohammadi1, Javad Najafiyan1, Giulio Lorenzini2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 233-244, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.019763 - 02 August 2022

Abstract In this study, three computational approaches for the optimization of a thermal conduction problem are critically compared. These include a Direct Method (DM), a Genetic Algorithm (GA), and a Pattern Search (PS) technique. The optimization aims to minimize the maximum temperature of a hot medium (a medium with uniform heat generation) using a constant amount of high conductivity materials (playing the role of fixed factor constraining the considered problem). The principal goal of this paper is to determine the most efficient and fastest option among the considered ones. It is shown that the examined three More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 1-14, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.018275 - 02 August 2022

Abstract The influence of the width of the circular ring of a car cooling fan on the aerodynamic noise is investigated numerically through the determination of the overall sound pressure level (OASPL). The results demonstrate that when the circular rings cover near 2/3 of the width of the blade tips of the rotor in the axis direction, the rotor has the lowest OASPL and the related total pressure efficiency and flow mass rate are better than the corresponding values obtained for a reference rotor without a circular ring. With increasing the width of the circular ring More > Graphic Abstract
